Maya's eyes remained fixed on the documents, her mind reeling from the revelations. Chase's words echoed in her mind: "There's more. Much more."
She looked up at Chase, his eyes locked onto hers. "What do you mean?" Maya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Chase hesitated, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small device. "This contains evidence of our families' wrongdoings. But it's encrypted. I need your help to unlock it."
Maya's heart raced as she took the device. Their fingers touched, sending a spark of electricity through her body. She felt a shiver run down her spine as Chase's hand lingered on hers.
As they worked together to unlock the device, Maya couldn't help but notice the way Chase's eyes crinkled at the corners when he concentrated. Or the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck. She found herself stealing glances at him, her pulse quickening with each passing moment.
Their shoulders touched, and Maya felt a flutter in her chest. She was torn between her loyalty to her family and her growing feelings for Chase. She didn't know if she could trust him, but she couldn't deny the connection between them.
"I think I've got it," Chase said, his voice low and husky. "Let me try something."
Maya watched as Chase's fingers flew across the device's keyboard. Their heads bent together, inches apart, as they worked in silence.
Suddenly, the device beeped, and a file opened on the screen. Maya's eyes widened as she read the contents, her heart racing with every word.
"What does it mean?" Maya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Chase's eyes locked onto hers, his expression grim. "It means our families are in deeper than we thought. And we're running out of time to stop them.
