Chapter 41: Secret Meetings
Maya's heart raced as she snuck out of the house to meet Sophia. She had to be careful, as their father was always watching.
Sophia was already at the designated spot, a quiet café on the outskirts of town. Maya slid into the booth, her eyes locking onto Sophia's.
"Thanks for meeting me," Maya said, her voice low.
Sophia nodded, her expression serious. "What's going on, Maya? You sounded worried on the phone."
Maya took a deep breath, explaining everything - the feud, the secrets, and Chase's suspicions. Sophia listened intently, her eyes widening as the story unfolded.
"I had no idea," Sophia said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I believe you. I'll help you."
Maya's heart swelled with gratitude. "Thanks, Sophia. I knew I could count on you."
As they hugged, Maya felt a sense of relief wash over her. She was one step closer to uncovering the truth.
Just then, Chase walked into the café, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Maya. He smiled, his face lighting up, and Maya's heart skipped a beat.
"Hey," he said, sliding into the booth beside her. "I saw you two meeting and thought I'd join the party."
Sophia raised an eyebrow. "You're quite the stealthy one, Chase."
Chase chuckled, his shoulder brushing against Maya's. "I have my ways."
Maya's heart fluttered at the touch, her mind racing with possibilities. Was Chase love for her geniue? And what did she feel for him?
As they left the café, Chase fell back beside Maya, his voice low. "You're amazing, Maya. I'm glad we're in this together."
Maya's cheeks flushed, her heart racing. "Me too," she whispered, her eyes meeting Chase's.
The air was charged with tension, and Maya knew that their relationship was taking a good turn.
