Paul spent the night progressing his cultivation and getting some rest.
The next morning he checked his fish traps and to his delight he had caught three fishes this time and one of them was quite big.
Other than being a source of food the fish were also a source of energy for him since he could absorb any kind of power,he absorbed their life force after he had killed them.
This little bit of energy was like a drop in the bucket for him but it was better than nothing.
After he took care of the fish and put one of them over the fire to cook,he started to craft a weapon for himself.
He was lucky so far and didn't meet any animals or magical beasts but that didn't mean that he would be this lucky all the time and if he was defenseles at that time then he would be dead as there was no way for him to escape.
Firstly he took some stones and started crafting them into various shapes that he would need for tools and a weapon.
The first one he crafted into an axe head and attached it to a handle with the help of paracord creating a stone hatchet.
After that he made a few short spears and some of the rocks he simply turned into small discs with sharp edges to be thrown at the opponent.
The last weapon was a small wooden club that was around half a meter long and it looked similar to a baseball.
His weapons were primitive and almost useless against a magical beast but they would have to suffice for now since he was still in the process of cultivating to the level at which he would be able to heal himself or even use basic spells or techniques.
When he was done with crafting his arsenal he ate the cooked fish and decided to search for more materials to upgrade his shelter and craft more things like arrows since he always liked to train with a bow in his last life.
The arrow heads could be made from stone for now but he would need some feathers to do the fletching.
He had the paracord to use as a bowstring but he had to find a suitable material to craft the bow if he wanted it to be useful.
Also,he could use it only when he had cured his legs so that he could stand up at least kneel on one knee.
Other than that he had to also gather some more fire wood and more stones, since he wasn't able to take the ones from the river as the current could drag him down the stream and that was the last thing that he wanted.
Not to mention that there were beasts in the water and he would have no hope of survival if he was attacked in the water.
That was why when he was cleaning himself in the river he always stayed in the shallow part near the land so he could sit in it without worrying about the water current and if there was a beast then he could drag himself to the land quite fast.
He might have not go out too much in his last life but he managed to read every book that he could find, and most of them were a bestiaries and some were a herbs lists,so he knew about many beasts and herbs but unfortunately it didn't help him much right now as he was still to weak to fight the beasts and he wasn't an alchemist to make use of the herbs if he managed to find some.
The only thing he could do was to put them into his storage space in hopes of selling them once he went to a settlement or a city but for now he didn't find any useful herbs or even poisonous ones.
He crawled slowly and looked for the materials he needed, the fire wood and stones were quite easy to find but the rest of them were quite hard to come by.
Suddenly he felt an energy fluctuation near him,and if what the books told him was correct then this would be a sign that there was a magical herb or fruit in his vicinity.
His cultivation was quite low for now so his detection range of this kind of energy was small,it was at most five meters so for him to feel this kind of thing was like a one in a million chance.
Paul went in the direction of the ingredient that he just felt and he had found not only one but a whole colony of magical ingredients.
His eyes shone when he identified them as mana carrots.
This was a really expensive and rare kind of carrot that could be used as an ingredient in mana potions to boost their effectiveness by at least 20%,actually it could be used in many potions and pills to boost their effects.
His enthusiasm evaporated when he remembered that most of the precious ingredients were guarded by a beast as they were precious not only to humans and other races but to the beasts as well.
Paul wanted to retreat but it was already too late for that as he felt a sharp stabbing pain on his left arm.
he screamed from pain and turned around to see what was attacking him.
Before his eyes was a blood rabbit which he recognized from one of the books he had read.
The human went pale when he realized that he was in a very dangerous situation as the name wasn't connected to the color of the beast which was gray but to their hunting method.
Blood rabbits hunted in packs ranging from three to over thirty rabbits and they used their long retractable claws and speed to cut their victims as many times as they could and then waited for it to bleed out.
They were twice as big as normal rabbits and they were omnivores which meant that they also ate meat.
Paul was stabbed into his left arm and it left three holes in his arm that started to bleed immediately after the rabbit retracted its claws and ran away.
He knew that since he was found and now wounded then the rabbits won't stop attacking him until he was dead so his only chance was to kill them before they managed to kill him.
Fortunately they were one of the weakest beasts and the bestiary he read in about them contained some strategies to take them out.
He ignored the pain in his arm and crawled to the nearest tree that was wide enough to cover his back and sat under.
That way they could only attack from the front and the sides, eliminating their favorite spot as they usually attacked from the back.
Paul readied his weapons and ripped one of the sleeves of his hoodie to use it as a bandage for his wound.
Now it was a matter of waiting for the rabbits to show themselves as they always stuck to their target and they attacked even if it meant death for them.
He didn't have to wait long for them to come as the grass in front of him moved and a rabbit jumped on him with its claws ready to make another wound on his body but this time he saw it coming and he trusted his short spear straight at it,impaling it through the stomach.
The rabbit tried to slice him a few more times before it went limp but Paul managed to keep it far enough that it only cut the empty air.
-This is one down,I wonder how many of them there are?
He said to himself when he ripped his spear from the dead rabbit.
The answer to his question came soon enough as the next attack was carried out by two rabbits to his right.
He managed to stab the first one but the other one managed to leave three cuts on his right forearm before it ran away.
Luckily the cuts were shallow but it still hurt like hell and bled a lot.
Before he had the time to do anything another attack came from the front,so he decided to abandon the spear and got out the sharpened throwing stones he had crafted, throwing three of them at the attacking rabbits which managed to dodge two of them but the third hit its target leaving a cut on its head but not killing it.
After the interrupted attack ,the rabbits retreated once more and Paul used this time to patch up his right hand with the other sleeve from his hoodie.
So far he managed to take down two rabbits and he saw at least three more but if he didn't finish them off quickly then he would be the one to be finished off as he was wounded and getting tired.
He didn't bother to retrieve the spear from the dead rabbit and took out another one from his storage space.
After a few minutes the rabbits attacked again but this time there were five of them and they came from every direction.
Paul used the throwing stones again but missed; however he managed to get another enemy with his spear before he let go of it and crossed his arms trying to defend his vital areas from the attack.
This earned him a few more cuts on his arms and one on his right leg,but allowed him to avoid any more serious injuries.
After the rabbits retreated he retrieved his spear and since he was out of sharp stones to throw he also took out his stone hatchet.
This time there were four attacking rabbits and by sheer luck he managed to take down two of them with his spear as he trusted it into the first one killing it but the spearhead broke off leaving him with a stick but it had a sharp pointy end and he used it to stab another rabbit in its throat lifting it just in time to use it as a shield and blocking the other two rabbits attacks.
This time however the last two rabbits didn't run away and attacked again immediately.
Using a dead rabbit as a shield and his hatchet Paul managed to hit one of them in its head which left it thrashing around on the ground.
The other rabbit managed to get past his defense when he was dealing with its comrade and stabbed its claws straight into his shoulder which made him scream from pain.
Paul blindly used his hatchet to try and strike the rabbit which by some miracle worked and the rabbit was hit on its back losing the ability to use its hind legs as the hatchet managed to break its spine.
The last beast laid on the ground trashing in agony and the human decided to put it out of its misery by striking it with all the strength that he had left.
The hatchet managed to shatter its skull ending its life,by that time all the other rabbits were already dead and there were no more attacks.
This herd had seven members and Paul managed to kill all of them.
The last thing he did was to put all of their bodies into his storage space before he passed out under the tree that probably saved his life.
