Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Their names.

When Paul woke up it was already an afternoon and he was hungry and thirsty.

Last night he overdid it with cultivation but it was worth it as now he could use the Qi to strengthen his body for a while or he could imbue his weapons with it to make them stronger and more durable.

He heard the cracking sound and once he crawled out of his shelter he saw that both girls had bright more branches for firewood and were now breaking them into smaller pieces.

Once they noticed him the younger sister quickly hid behind her older sibling.

She was still afraid of him and he could not blame her for it.

Looking at the amount of wood that the girls managed to collect,he was sure that they both had to work very hard.

-Thank you for your work, this is enough for now.

He said as he pulled himself up to sit down next to the fire.

The older girl nodded her head.

Paul took out three fish from his storage and started roasting them over the fire.

At that sight both girls became happy as it seemed that they had earned themselves another meal.

Once the dinner was ready he gave them their fish and they all began to eat.

After the meal Paul decided to see if there were some fish in his traps and he wasn't disappointed as he had caught many fish and most of them were big enough to eat.

It seemed that the new bait worked a lot better than the fish remains he had used before.

He had killed and cleaned all the fish and returned to the camp at which he discovered that there were some grass heaps near the shelter and the girls were bringing more when he saw them.

He immediately connected the dots and guessed that this was their idea of a materace and he couldn't believe that he never thought of something so obvious and he slept on the ground.

When the girls saw that he was back the older one pointed at the grass and said:

-Softer,better sleep.

Paul smiled.

-Good idea,thank you.

The girl was happy at his words of praise as she simply didn't want to sleep on the hard ground with her sister and she didn't expect the human to praise her and even thank her for her effort.

Paul let the girls take care of the sleeping arrangements and he busied himself with a bone from the spirit beast blood rabbit.

He took out one of its blades and decided to turn it into a knife as it was sharper and way more durable than any stone and if he could add a handle to it then it would be ready to use.

So he took a piece of wood from the pile that the girls managed to gather and started working on it.

He carved it to the shape that he needed and also shortened it a bit then he used his hatchet to carefully split it in half.

Paul carefully carved out a shape of the claw inside both halves so that they were symmetrical and finally he put the claw into the wooden halves using some paracord to tie the handle down.

It wasn't the best looking but it was functional and much easier to use than the sharp stones that he had used till now.

When he finished his work he discovered that the younger of the goblin sisters was observing him from a few meters away with a curious look on her face.

He smiled at this as no matter in which world they were born the children were always curious and interested in new things.

Actually the girl looked like she was about ten or eleven years old but that was just her looks as she didn't necessarily age like a human since she had some goblin blood in her veins and goblins lived only around thirty years so they matured earlier than humans.

Paul looked at the sky and the sun was nearing to the horizon so he decided to start preparing supper for himself and the girls.

Using his new knife he cut out some meat from the rabbit and started to roast it and some sharpened sticks.

-Girls, the food is ready.

He called them once the meat was cooked.

The older girl came out of the shelter as she was busy trying to make the sleeping place as comfortable as she possibly could.

They all sat around the fire and enjoyed the meal.

-What are your names?

Paul asked once they finished eating.

-We have no name.

The older girl said.

This surprised him as he had read that even goblins had names and he just didn't want to call them girls all the time.

-How could you have no names? From what I heard, goblins have names.

He asked .

-We have no name.Shaman not allowed us to have name.

She explained their situation.

-Then do you want to have names?

Paul asked.

Both girls were stunned as they never imagined that this human would want to give them names.

They were always jealous of the other goblins for having names and now they had an opportunity to receive a name.

-We want.

The younger sister said.

This was the first time she had said a word when Paul was present.

Both Paul and her sister were shocked that she had spoken and even agreed to receive a name from him.

When he came back to his senses he smiled and looked at the older girl awaiting her response.

She was thinking, what to do as she also wanted a name but was it alright to receive it since shaman never agreed to give them names?

On the other hand the shaman was most likely dead so it's not like he could stop them from getting names.

Finally she made up her mind and nodded, accepting the name that he would choose for her.

-Then from today your name will be Mia.

He said.

-And yours will be Maya.

He continued looking at the younger girl.

-Me Mia.

The older girl said, with happiness as now she could introduce herself for the first time in her life.

-Me Maya.

The younger girl mimicked her sister, using her new name for the first time.

For Paul it looked a bit funny as he could never understand what it meant for the girls to have their own names after being nameless for all their lives.

Then suddenly both girls screamed in pain as intricate patterns started to appear on their bodies.

Paul recognized them immediately as seals that were just broken and then he understood that the shaman had probably placed the seals on the girls and set them up so that they would be unsealed the moment the girls received names.

What he couldn't understand was why he would place such things on two young girls.

From observing the patterns on their bodies he figured out that the seals were not meant to kill them but to restrict them in many ways.

He knew a few things about sealing spells and techniques but right now even if he wanted to he wasn't able to help the girls that were screaming in pain on the ground right now.

He was simply too weak to do anything about it.
