Chapter 6 - The Frostbane threshold

Elaric is in awe seeing such a grand mansion the likes of which did not exist even on earth.

The mansion is built from dark stone, with high, pointed roofs that are covered in a thick layer of snow. Icicles hang from the roofs, and frost decorates the glass windows, which are tall and narrow, letting in only a sliver of the pale, wintry light.

The entrance is marked by a massive set of double doors, carved from ancient wood and reinforced with iron.

"So, This is why they are Frostbane huh since they defend the border in such cold regions."

"Young Master, A few miles behind this mansion lies the country of Frost veil."

"What? This mansion is that close to a border. Isn't a viscount's estate supposed to be far from a border so they can report it in case of an attack or at least prepare?"

"Yes that is correct, But the Frostbane family despite having the element of ice are very aggressive so the Frostbane ancestor built the mansion near the border so he could immediately dispatch."

"Even though I am yet to meet him I can already imagine the harsh training that I will have to go through."

"You don't need to worry so much young master. You are still but a child so your training will not be so hard. At least not yet. Master Drytan is a man of efficiency so let's head straight to his office."

"Similar to the saying, "If you have to eat a frog eat it in the morning." he likes to finish what he deems a waste of time in the morning."

Cedric stops and points his arms toward Drytan's office, "He wants to meet you alone, young master."

Elaric becomes nervous to meet such a renowned individual but gathers his thoughts and enters the room where his gaze meets the eye of a man in his late 30s with a tall stature and broad shoulders with hair as white as snow.

"Nice to meet you Viscount Drytan."

"You are polite for your age. I thought you would be a rude brat considering you are a commoner. I am glad such is not the case."

"Understood Master Drytan."

Drytan stands up and grabs his fur coat and his sword, "Let's head to the training ground. Cedric bring the boy a fur coat and you follow me."

"No sir I am fine. I can handle a bit of cold."

"You can for now but tomorrow morning you won't be able to run 20 times around the knight's training grounds without it. Now shut up and follow me."

As Elaric enters the training ground he is dumbfounded by how empty it is.

"Don't look so shocked. If I trained in the knight's training ground most of them won't be able to handle my aura when I am training."

"Let's start. Exert your energy to the best of your abilities."

Elaric exerts his energy in his hand when Drytan observes energy in Elaric's body through his pulse and notices how he is holding back.

Drytan is caught by surprise and thinks to himself, "His light is not the same as others. Theirs is derived from the authority of the sun or fire but he appears to be derived from the authority of light itself! Hahaha, he will be my sword that I can use to kill off those demons. I will sharp him to his best potential."

Holding back his smile, "Kid I said do your best, didn't I? This time focus on an image, you should start with an image of your own hand."

Gathering his thoughts, feeling the energy throughout his body. Collecting the energy in his right hand through his veins Elaric engulfs his hand in a dim light roughly taking the shape of his hand.

"Good enough for now. Ideally, you need to cover your hand in its exact shape. Every magic user uses a weapon of some sort to fully utilize their element so you need to master a weapon along with your magic."

"Now, To fully utilize magic you need to have some muscles so for the first few months you will be physically training and trying all the weapons available here to find which one suits you the best. You will first have to master all weapons to their basic level then I will tell you which weapon suits you the best."

"Are you saying I have to train by myself? "

"Why? Did you expect me to hold your hands throughout your whole training? If you need help ask one of the knights or Cedric. I will come check your progress from time to time so if you don't want your family to return to poverty you better give it your all. I don't like not getting a return on my investments. Understood?"

Elaric feels a bad taste in his mouth. "What is wrong with him? Threatening a 5-year-old kid. I must bear with it since I can't let my parents go back to the way things were before and I need to get stronger anyway."

"Yes Sir, Understood. Then I will begin right away."

"Good. Cedric will be in charge of your theory education and you need to fully know about all the muscles in a human body."

"May I ask why I need to study about muscles?"

"Only when you finish learning about it. For now, know that every element has a mechanism that you need to work on. Light is not a very rare element and most of the time you can only increase the heat but not to the degree those of fire element can."

Holding himself back from revealing the lie made by demon worshippers, "But yours seem to be somehow different so don't focus on heat rather find what mechanisms it has."

"For now I will demonstrate to you how I control ice."

Drytan engulfs his mana from his hand to his one-handed sword and as he swings the sword he exerts the mana from it. It goes past two meters and the slash made up of ice falls to the ground. As the ice touches the ground the ice melts giving out a mist of cold air.

"You need to incorporate your element in the weapon of your desire then and only then will you be able to return to your parents for a day."

"Excuse me, sir, Am I supposed to run laps in the knights' training grounds or here?"

Changing his mind about letting Elaric learn from the knights so others won't notice his powers, "You are to do all your training here. All right then, Start training. For today, practice the weapons here and tomorrow morning run 20 laps in here, After that have breakfast then continue your training. I will assign Cedric here, If you need any help ask him."

Drytan leaves the room with a smile in his heart.

"Now then, Which weapon should I choose? Considering I know nothing about melee combat I should probably choose the spear so I can attack while maintaining a distance."

He picks up a spear and since he knows nothing about a spear he just swings it randomly and thinks, "Yeah, not gonna happen. I should wait until Cedric comes."
