Chapter 21 - 17th: Strolling in the System Online Store [Part 2]

WREN JOLTED AWAY from his leisure sitting on the sofa and subconsciously stood up. His small apartment had been turned into a big library that was full of towering shelves full of books of different genres.

But this time, those books were turned into thick cards assorted by color and mainly by their class rank. There are a total of ten towering shelves around Wren and more than half of those were in monochromatic color, which Wren knew meant they were still unavailable.

Knowing so, Wren ignores those on gray shelves and walks towards those on color shelves. There are five available shelves and each was in a different color: white, yellow, green, red, and blue.

He tried to stand in front of the white shelf but there seemed to be an invisible barrier preventing him from trying to get closer. After trying to push a little more and remaining unsuccessful, he surrendered and walked to the next shelf, which was the yellow one.

And the same thing happened to him as well. This put a deep frown on his handsome face as he hesitantly looked at the next colored shelf. But he only hesitated for a short time because he knew that there would be no result if he kept hesitating.

With a slight doubt and more reserved, Wren walks over to the green shelf, trying to get closer. Wren makes it as reserved as possible, worried that he might be pushed aside again. But this time, he came closer easily without any invisible hindrances around.

The moment he stood before it, a card as big as an electronic tablet from his former world appeared floating before him. Instead of getting it, Wren tried to look at it first.

One side of the card was just a plain brown color with a silver margin shining like it was made of silver gems. When the card rotates again to show the other side of the card, a plain green surface is shown.

Remembering the introduction about this reward, Wren knew that this might be the said card where he would be putting the summon of his choice with the same class rank as his.

"So green means it's D-class? But aren't I still an E-class? If I were to count it by color, white means F-class, yellow for E-class, and green for D-class, and so on and forth. So why D-class?"

Then Wren remembered a disregarded fact about his ranking. If he remembered it right, his first summon, the [Amarok Wolf], had a D-class optimization rank. And according to the description of the spin wheel reward where he gets it, the choices included on the wheel were based on his class rank.

Then he remembered that when he first came to the association to register himself as a hunter, the system showed to others that he is a D-class rank awakened despite his triple S-class summon.

It was only because of his neglect yesterday that he accidentally allowed those annoying old officials of his real level. He had forgotten about his automatic D-class rank so he also forgot that when he levels up to E-class, it shouldn't be showing on his fake system profile that the system made for him.

Yet, there he was and ended up showing everything before those old people, like he was showing his nudity to them. Remembering that now, the irritation he felt that day came back.

But Wren withheld himself. He knows that it wasn't the time for that. He'll just let out the steam once he is doing his daily quest on the second floor of the dungeon tower.

"So that's how it works. That's probably why there are five available shelves instead of two. Well, this is better because I have a wider range of choices. Speaking of choices…" Wren stood in front of the towering green shelf in confusion. "How am I going to pick now?"

He didn't have to use a ladder to look at each summon card, right?

As an answer to his confusion, a transparent lantern appeared before him. When he came closer to it, he was amazed when he saw that the slanted table of the lectern seemed like a screen of an electronic touch device back in his former world.

He tried to scroll it up and down and it was really like scrolling through an online shop. Well, that's definitely the right feeling of an online shop that his first impression of a simulation library at the start.

Wren scrolls it back to the very start of the list so that he can slowly look at the items one by one. This might be the same list provided when he had that spin-wheel reward. But unlike that time where he can only see the name of the summon, this time he can look at it more deeply.

If he saw a familiar name of a legendary beast, he would click on it and get detailed information about the beast. It even provides a three-dimensional image of the beast, showing its skills and such, making it easy for Wren to visualize himself when he would be incorporating the skill himself.

Because of how amusing the scroll had become for Wren, an hour had already passed and he had only seen half of the available lists. Afraid that a time limit might appear out of nowhere, Wren decided to hurry.

He no longer looks at them one by one and just passes by those familiar yet not passable beasts and focuses on the ones that interest him more. Another half an hour passes before Wren has chosen the beast he wanted.

——

Name: Dwarf-Dragon Fafnir

Level: E ~ D

Archetype: Shifter Beast

Description: This beast is the popular dwarf prince from the Norse Mythology. A strong and brave soul who was eaten by the curse of greed that turned himself into the dragon helm of terror.

——

[Would you like to pick the [Dwarf-Dragon Fafnir] summon? Yes or no?]

When Wren clicked 'yes', the green blank card in his hand flew away with a flashing of light. As the light disappears, on the blank green side of the card appears the figure of the [Dwarf-Dragon Fafnir]. Then the card disappeared after that.

Wren didn't worry where the card might go and instead, he repeated the same process as he took his time picking a summon from the red towering shelves.

Looking at the lists available and waiting to be picked by him, Wren was happy that the list this time was different from the choices on the green shelves, though there were still some beasts on the red shelves.

The only difference might be because this time it was a shifter beast who can turn a beast into a human or anything close to it. It took him thirty minutes before he finally decided on a certain summon.

——

Name: Moon Eater Bakunawa

Level: E ~ C

Archetype: Lesser Beast God

Description: This beast is the popular dragon of Philippine mythology who ate the six moons the Earth is supposed to have. He may be the most beautiful in his human form, but he will turn into the most ferocious beast that can cause eclipses, earthquakes, and typhoons.

——

When Wren saw this summons, he remembered Lucy's summons, which also came from this country, so he did not hesitate to pick this one. He still has another blank card to choose from anyway.

So he went to his last destination, which was to the blue shelf. On this shelf, he might have gotten a B-class rank summon, which is as high as a lesser deity. And he really did!

——

Name: Fenrir Wolf

Level: E ~ B

Archetype: Divine Beast

Description: This beast was a popular divine being that even primordial gods were afraid of because of its extraordinary strength and skill and was said to be able to slay a god.

——

One by one, all the blank cards were filled with the image of his chosen summons after three hours.

[All the cards are filled up with your chosen summons. Forcefully pulling out the host from the online store, success.]

And when Wren looked around again, it was as the system had stated. He was back to his apartment once again.

[Shuffling the three cards. Once laid before the host, you must pick one and the [Random Free-Choice Gift Card] will be completed. Good luck!]

The system notification disappeared and before him, the familiar interface appeared, showing the three familiar cards. Wren only hesitated for three seconds before he pointed his finger to the card in the middle.

What's there to hesitate when all of the choices this time was all to his liking? Whatever the result is, Wren was sure to be happy about it.

Two of the cards disintegrated, leaving the card that he had chosen. Like a tease, it slowly flipped on its own until the inside of the card was fully shown.

[Congratulations! You have acquired the [Fenrir]! You can now see this beast inside your summon inventory.]

Wren waited for another system notification to pop out but he waited for nothing. It made him feel perplex since based on how he acquired the [Amarok Wolf], he also completed the first weekly quest which was to acquire a new summon.

And he just did, no? Counting that today was also the start of a new week and surely, the weekly quests had been refreshed together with the daily and monthly quests.

This was really confusing that Wren couldn't feel the joy and excitement of having a new summon. He can only disregard the system announcement and instead, open his quests panel.
