Chapter 35 - The Curious Mouse

Trixie wandered through the hall, waiting for Lilian.

She had never cared much about socializing with others or befriending those who had never helped their family when they struggled financially.

This was also one of the reasons why she was thankful when she met Lilian through her previous circle.

From then on, Trixie followed her like a loyal dog and made sure that Lilian received VIP treatment at every restaurant she owned.

Sitting down on one of the chairs, she quietly sipped her champagne quietly when her brother, Raven, approached her table with a smirk forming on his lips.

"Yes, Raven? What is it that you want?"

He sat beside her, putting his glass on the table. "Nothing, Trix. Just wondering why you weren't socializing enough. Is there something wrong?"

Trixie chuckled, shaking her head before leaning back in her seat, eyeing the man she had been wanting to have a conversation with all night.

"You worry too much, Raven. I am fine. Just waiting for Lilian to finish."

Raven nodded, humming in response as he took his glass from the table and took another sip—his fifth drink that evening.

They sat in comfortable silence after their short conversation, watching the crowd. But that was when Raven's eyes caught sight of the man standing next to Rex Lin.

"Who's he?"

Trixie followed where Raven was pointing and frowned in thought before giving an answer. The man's existence seemed familiar, yet mysterious.

She had never felt this way towards a person before.

"I am not sure, Raven, but I can't help but feel a sense of familiarity in the way he moves and looks. I just don't know where or if I have ever met him before."

Raven hummed, crossing his legs comfortably in his seat as he leaned forward, his eyes gazing towards the mysterious man.

"Do you think he is Rex Lin's infamous lover?"

Trixie gasped, smacking Raven's shoulder as she looked around to see if someone had heard them.

"Raven, shut up. Don't bring that kind of subject here. Someone might hear you!" she half-whispered and then cleared her throat while Raven scoffed away and rubbed his somewhat aching shoulder.

"Ouch, Trix. You didn't need to hit me too hard. I was just saying since no one here seemed to know who he was or what's his connection with the Lins." He grumbled and cursed under his breath as Trixie rolled her eyes.

"Plus, it only makes so much sense since they are literally almost attached to the hips," he added, his statement adding more fuel to the fire of curiosity that surrounded the man.

Trixie hummed in response, offering no apologies as she observed how Rex took care of the man.

"Well, you're not wrong with that assumption. They do look like lovers," Raven chuckled. It was rare to see his sister admitting defeat even with no evidence that an occurrence had happened.

"But, I still doubt that Rex would go public with his lover, especially if it's a guy. Imagine the shame that will be thrown at his well-protected reputation."

Raven nodded, agreeing with what Trixie just mentioned, his eyes still not leaving the man in question before halting a waiter from a distance and grabbing his sixth drink.

"Believe what you want to believe, my dear sister, but I don't think Rex would care about his reputation that much. The Lins are trained to not regret any decision they make, neither personal nor for their business."

"And how exactly do you know this?" she asked, arching an eyebrow.

Raven shrugged, sipping through his drink and leaving the question unanswered for the rest of the night.

"You know what, never mind. I doubt you would even give me an answer anyway," Raven smirked under his breath, watching his sister stand up from her chair and walk in the direction of Lilian and Joshua.

Joshua noticed Trixie approaching and quickly fixed his collar and nudged Lilian to pay attention.

"Hi there, Lilian. Were you alright? Your face looks a little pale?"

Lilian timidly smiled at her. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, the expression not quite reaching her eyes.

"You worry too much about me, Trixie. I'm all right."

Trixie nodded, casting a quick glance at Joshua from under her lashes before smiling sweetly at both of them. She sat near Lilian, while her eyes shifted away from Joshua to the person near Rex.

"Do you know who he might be?"

Lilian frowned, looking away from Stellar and following Trixie's line of sight.

"Who?"

"That man next to Rex. He looks familiar, but I can't pinpoint where I might've met him."

Joshua, who was just beside Lilian, started to sweat bullets. He was afraid that Trixie might realize that Lucas was her brother and if she ever did, she might create a scene, which would be quite ugly—something that neither the Lins nor Mings would want to see at their party.

"Ah, you mean Lucas Wang? That son of a bitch who doesn't know how to respect his seniors? Yeah, I know him. That son of a bitch took Rex away from me and I am planning to get my revenge on him."

Trixie's ears perked up. Wang? Did she hear Lilian right?

Trixie turned her head sharply towards Lilian and noticed that she was fuming in anger. Trixie had never seen her this mad before.

Her eyes darted to Joshua, who was nervous and was avoiding eye contact. She could see bullets of sweat forming at his temple.

'Why does he look so tense? What is it that he is nervous about?' Trixie thought, her gaze drifting back to Rex and the man standing beside him as her mind curiously worked hard to guess how it made sense.

"Wang? Is he a cousin of Stellar Wang? Is he also somewhat famous?"

Lilian rolled her eyes upon hearing Trixie's questions. "You don't have to know that, Trixie. Keep your head out of my problems. I have got it covered already. Plus, my cousin is helping me with my plan."

Her tone carried a hint of malice and her anger was evident, making Trixie wonder even more about Lucas and the fact that Lilian had a revenge plan for him to take what was rightfully hers.

"Oh sorry about that, Lilian. I am just worried that you might get yourself hurt. The Lins and Mings have been protecting the Wang family for a very long time. And messing with them could mean messing with Rex, himself."

Lilian scoffed away. "No, I know something that Rex probably never knew about Lucas. And that is something that I will keep to myself until the right time is just right."

Trixie realized that Lilian was planning something big. Something that could either tear their familiar apart or solidify them.

Something she was willing to protect and Trixie's curiosity got the best of her.

"If I ask to join your 'revenge' party, will you tell me what you are planning about?"

Lilian looked at her, a sly smile spreading across her face. She straightened up, cleared her throat and gave Trixie the friendliest smile she could muster.

"Of course, sister. I would love to."
