"Greetings, Surface Dwellers."
Suffice it to say, there was silence after that.
The workers were all just staring at the little… mutant in front of them. The silence was really only broken as one of them coughed and they all started talking to each other again.
"Is it just me… or did that little rat just talk?"
"What rat? It's a snake."
"What fucking snake has an arm like a mantis? Stupid hoe bitch ass."
"...Guys, it has a human face."
"What the—you're right!?"
And as the workers all started raising their voices, Lucian just stood there with a blank expression on his face. He did not question it with the lightning-clad deity, and he also did not question it when he could understand the mutated creatures of the sewer — but he really could understand everything and everyone here.
Was he granted some sort of language skill when he was transmigrated here, or… was he truly just a superior intellectual being as he had already initially thought?
"Ack, it's smiling. It's so creepy. And I think it really did talk just now — it was quiet, but I really heard it say hello."
"Don't mind it — some of these abominations could mimic sounds. More importantly, Steve… why are you so silent?"
Everyone then turned to look at Steve, who was holding the Geiger counter and pointing it at Lucian; they all could see his hand trembling, and he needed to be called again for him to just finally respond.
"Steve!"
"Yes!? Yes? What…?" Steve almost choked on his own breath.
"What's up with you? Why'd you suddenly grow pale on us?"
"That…" Steve took in a small gulp as his trembling hand finally started to move, "...You need to take a look at this, Boss."
"Hm?" The man who seemed to be the workers' foreman squinted his eyes as he looked at the screen of the Geiger counter as Steve showed it to him. And soon, his eyes also widened in shock, "That's… 3.2?"
"What!? 3 point fucking 2!?" One of the workers who was about to approach Lucian could not help but quickly take a step back as he rushed to the foreman to also take a look at the Geiger counter, "Holy fucking shit! Are you telling me that little thing is a fucking kaiju!?"
And while everyone was starting to panic, Lucian was just watching all of them interact with each other quietly. In truth, he didn't really want to reveal himself — but alas, he too, was quite shocked to see a human so early on in his adventures—no. He hasn't even started his adventure on the surface, and yet he has already encountered them.
He wanted to hide, but it was too late as they were already all looking at him.
"Anything rated above 1 is a kaiju…" The foreman squinted his eyes as he looked at Lucian, "...But look at that thing. The counter is definitely malfunctioning."
"Guys, can't all of you just relax? Of course, the thing's malfunctioning boss. The kaiju that killed all those magic-wielding bitches and destroyed Artemis City was rated at 12…
…are you saying that 5 of these could destroy one of the world's largest city in the world?"
"4, actually — but… but you're right," the one who held the Geiger counter let out a sigh of relief as he retracted the counter and started hitting it with his palm, "This thing's probably malfunctioning."
"...It looks so weird. I've seen a lot of mutants with human faces before, but this one… doesn't his face look extremely close to a human child?"
Lucian was also weirded out about that, but not for the same reason as them — he was only weeks old, and yet his face was not that of a baby's at all, but a small child.
"Psst, Henry… doesn't it look a little like your mom?"
"Pft. Bwahahaha!"
"Fuck you, guys. Seriously, fuck all of you," the one called Henry shook his head several times before staring at Lucian, "If anything…
…doesn't it kinda look like Dr. Osborne?"
"Ha—" Everyone was about to laugh, but then all quickly shut their mouths as soon as they realized that… Henry was kind of right.
"Oh fuck, you're right."
"Someone take a picture of it, quick."
"Enough," the foreman raised his voice and groaned, "Just kill it so we can fix this hole before a real kaiju shows up and eats all of us."
"Roger that," one of the workers pulled out a large rifle from behind him and pointed it at Lucian, "Oh, it's not getting scared at all."
Lucian, however, just stayed there again as he looked at the gun. How could he not, when it was emitting radiation that was as strong as Eduardo's?
It looked like a normal rifle at first glance, but there was some sort of orb exposed halfway beside where the magazine is; a green orb that seemed to be spinning at high speed.
"!!!"
And as soon as the man pulled the trigger, Lucian could not help but look to his side as he saw a hole now resting beside him; the hole was extremely clean, no cracks at all on its edge. There were, however, signs of soot. Probably due to how fast the bullet traveled. It happened so fast, almost instantly, in fact — it wasn't the speed of a normal bullet at all.
"Hahaha! How could you fucking miss from this distance!?"
"Why are you the one even holding the gun!?"
"Shut the fuck up! Do you see it!? It's the size of a fucking thumb, and it's also dark!"
"Excuses man, bitch. Give me that gun."
One might think that Lucian would have compassion or a sense of camaraderie with the people in front of them since he lived as a human in his past life for a very, very long time. And one would be right, but it would have to be at a certain condition—
"What the fuck!? Where is it!? It's gone!"
"Oh fuck, where is it!? I'm getting the creeps!"
"N…Nick, it's… it's on your feet!"
"What!? W—!!!"
—Sadly, however, they did not meet that condition at all as Lucian just casually swung his blades across the feet of the one holding the rifle. They thought nothing happened at first, that is, until… Nick just dropped to the ground and left half of his boots standing there separated from the rest of his legs.
The condition they had to meet… is to be Lucian himself. Because the only species Lucian belongs to is Lucian. After all, he had spent eons alone... he considered himself to be a completely different species altogether.
"You shot first."
They all then just watched in horror as Lucian quickly slithered toward Nick's head and just sliced it off without any resistance at all — figures, of course, since…
"The boots…"
"Wh—why the fuck are you mentioning the boots!? Nick… Nick is fu—"
"The boots are kevlar."
"S…shit…" The foreman cursed as he very slowly grabbed the rope attached to the surface, "It… it is a Kaiju…
…It's a tiny fucking Kaiju!"
"Climb… Climb!"
