Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Hello Again, System

"It's a tiny fucking kaiju!"

"Pull! Everyone pull yourself up…

…and get to the choppa!"

Some of the workers also tried to scream, but the only thing that came out of their mouths was the silence caused by the primal fear of death. They'd even already forgotten about their friend, no longer caring that he died as they all rushed and ran to the rope; attaching their belts to it automatically pulled them up toward the surface.

Unfortunately, the hole was not wide; which caused all of them to almost bump into each other going up.

"It's… It's on my leg!"

"S…shit! Get it off!"

"Marv! Start the chopper! Start it!"

One of the workers violently started swinging his leg; causing the rope to flail around and hit the others, who also tried kicking Lucian away from their friend's leg, but only ended up actually kicking the leg itself. The ceiling was not really that high, and the workers quickly crawled out of the hole and started dragging the one whose leg was caught by Lucian as he was panicking.

"Khk!"

But as soon they pulled him out and dragged him across the surface, Lucian just started crawling across the back of the worker while stabbing him multiple times until. And as a matter of course, when Lucian reached the shoulders, they all let go of the man and just started running without looking back.

"Start it! Start the choppa!"

"Huh…?" Unfortunately for them, Marvin did not start the helicopter at all as they did not hear them all the way from the hole as he was listening to some music. But as he saw his friends all running toward him, the only thing he could really do was squint his eyes and wonder,

"What's going on, guys?" Marvin peaked out of the helicopter.

"What the fuck!? Start the choppa!"

"Why are you—" Marvin could not even finish his words before he saw the slowest one of the group trip in the distance… his head separating from the rest of his body and rolling across the ground, "Oh… Oh, shit! Henry!?"

Suffice it to say, Marvin just rushed back to his seat and started the helicopter. But as soon as he did so, he heard a crack in the window beside him — and as he looked at it, there was now a sharp spear of rock slowly drilling into the tempered glass.

"F…" Marvin then turned to where the spear rock should have come from, only to see several people in white robes running toward them, "Mages!"

Marvin once again got off of his seat and then rushed toward the other control terminal and wore a piece of headgear that completely covered his eyes, and as he did so, a hatch opened up from outside the helicopter and released some sort of large gun — and without even any hesitation, Marvin controlled the gun and pointed it at the mages rushing toward them.

"Die, fucking mages!"

"Why is Marv shooting—Mages!? Now!?" The foreman's eyes widened up as he hastened his steps even further; even leaping into the helicopter and then pushing Marvin away from the gun terminal, "Get us the fuck away from this place, now! Now!"

"But the mages—"

"I'll handle the fucking mages, go!" The foreman screamed from his lungs; showering his saliva on Marvin as he violently pushed him again toward the cockpit, "Can't you see there's a fucking kaiju following us!?"

"Huh…?" Marvin looked at the outside again as he saw the others getting in the helicopter, but he failed to see any sort of kaiju there, "What kai—"

And before Marvin could finish his words, the spear rock drilling into the glass finally penetrated through the helicopter… and then went straight through his chest.

"Fuck! Someone else drive the choppa!"

And while all of this chaos was happening, Lucian was actually already hiding behind a rock; quickly moving there as soon as he saw the other group of people rushing toward the helicopter.

"Oh… Benders?" Lucian leaned his head out of the stone to watch the sudden chaos unfolding in front of him. He already knew that there were mages in this world — after all, his father was the Deputy Assistant of Nuclear Weapons Against Mages.

What he did not expect, however, was that their altercation was this bad to the point that mages would just suddenly attack them on sight—no. Judging by the way they were attacking them, they already knew where they were, most probably when the helicopter landed.

It wasn't just an attack on sight, they were hunting them.

"Die, mages!"

One of the mages summoned a wall of earth to block the incoming attack, but similar to the rifle they used to shoot Lucian but missed, the bullet shot toward its target almost instantly — and it pierced through the shield like nothing and just hit the mage dead on the chest; his back exploding from the sheer force of the impact.

"Now!" The mages then screamed as they all once again rushed toward the helicopter, using water and fire to create a steam to completely block them from the workers' sight. Unfortunately, Lucian's vision was also blocked, and all he could really see were their silhouettes each time the railgun was fired and whenever the fire mage summoned his flames.

"What the—But I want to watch!" Lucian stepped out of the rock. But alas, unlike the movies and all sorts of comics, a fight between two groups that are hell-bent on killing each other does not last that long, and before Lucian could even get into the mist, all the noises were gone and all that was left were groans and howls of pain.

And very soon, the wind blew all the mist away, showing the gruesome aftermath of the battle. The helicopter was the first thing that Lucian noticed, as it was completely crushed by a large boulder — with the body of the foreman sticking out from the rubble.

The other workers seemed to have been able to escape, only for their bodies to be torn apart by the spikes that appeared from the ground. One of them was even burning while being watched by the remaining 5 mages who survived.

"Look at them just flailing around like that," one of the mages spat on the ground as the smirk on his face grew wider by the second, "These fuckers think they're so tough with their weapons that defile the order of nature, tch."

"They have every right to be. Look at us," the man who seemed to be the leader of the group looked at his dead comrades before looking at the helicopter, "These people were probably just workers, and yet they managed to kill 3 of us."

"If it wasn't for that fucking rod of death then we would—"

"It already happened," the mage leader waved his hand, "Salvage what we can and let's get out of here before more of them—"

"What is that!?"

One of the mages quickly summoned a ball of fire and threw it toward one of the bodies when it suddenly started to move.

"Why would you even fire at a corpse!?" The mage leader almost hit one of his men in the head.

"That… it was moving!"

"Why would a headless corpse move!? Are you fucking stu—"

And before the mage leader could finish his words, he too, put up his guard as he saw the corpse just suddenly moved. The rest of them also started quickly putting up their guard; their faces, turning serious as nothing like this had ever happened before.

"Did… did these scum just create another one of their evil tools of destruction!? They—Huh?" And before the noisy mage could finish his words, a small animal just crawled out from beneath the worker's corpse.

"...Pft!" The mages were silent for a few seconds before they all just started laughing at each other, "There… there's your evil tool of destruction! Bwahaha!"

"Hey, hey Orn — be careful, it might explode and kill all of us. Bwahaha!"

"Enough," the mage leader let out a small sigh as he started walking away, "Let's just—"

"So, how does this work?"

And before the mage leader could finish his words, he heard a small whisper coming from the supposed small animal. He once again turned his focus on it, only to see it holding one of the workers' tools — specifically, the Geiger counter.

Lucian started casually examining the Geiger counter, lifting it up with his hair while his tiny little hands tried pressing the buttons on the side.

"Ah!" And as soon as it started to click and show a number on the screen, Lucian quickly pointed it at the headless corpse beside him, "Hm… 0.06? What about the foreman."

The mages then watched as Lucian just crawled his way toward the foreman and then pointed the Geiger counter at him,

"0.10… I guess because he's been exposed to more radiation? Makes sense," Lucian nodded to himself before finally turning toward one of the mages and pointing the Geiger counter at them, "0.00… Hm, interesting."

And then, lastly, Lucian pointed the Geiger counter to himself — and it started creating a noise that made the mages flinch.

"Hm… 3.2, as they said. This…" Lucian then started to tremble before suddenly raising the Geiger counter in the air and screaming, "...System! You thought you took away the System from me, God!? Ha… Hahaha…

…But I now have a System!"
