Kelvin
I drove through the neighborhood with deadly speed and I had to slow down once we got to the main road. Hannah was careful not to stain herself with the blood of the unconscious man she was sitting next to and she used tissues to wipe the blood oozing from his head. Sonya and the other lady at the back watched over the other unconscious man and made sure he wasn't in an awkward position.
Driving through the main road at almost noon is very annoying once you are in an emergency situation. The traffic was moderately jammed today. After a few minutes of waiting, we were allowed to pass and I sped carefully to the hospital which was a kilometre away. Luckily for us, the rest of the journey didn't have heavy traffic and I got to the hospital soon enough.
I drove to the emergency ward and parked the car. I got out and the others followed. I got to Hannah, took the bleeding man from her, carried him on my back and rushed inside the hospital. I heard the ladies struggle to carry the other man and they followed me inside. The nurses in the hallway of the ward saw me with the man and rushed with a wheeled stretcher nearby.
They helped me place the man on the stretcher and they strolled him away to the emergency room. Hannah and the other two ladies came in with the other man and he was also sent into the emergency room. The four of us got into the waiting room and sat down among a few people there. The blood from the man had stained my t-shirt and I was busily wiping off the wet blood with my handkerchief.
Hannah sat next to me and the other ladies sat a few chairs away beside us. It took time for me to catch my breath after all that running and when I did, I narrated to Hannah what happened that led to all this. When I was done, she voiced out her thoughts.
"That was a crazy brave thing you did, Kelvin. You could have gotten hurt or injured."
"It's okay," I chuckled. "It wasn't such a big deal."
"Wasn't such a big deal ?" she echoed. "You just fought off three separate men. How isn't that a big deal ? And how did you even do that ? I've never seen you fight before. I always thought you were a peaceful and harmless person."
"I do some drills every day and work on my defense, just in case I get attacked in the streets." I revealed. "Today, it paid off and I was able to stop a kidnapping in the process."
"Those ladies were about to be kidnapped ?"
"Yeah," I affirmed. "I knew it the moment I saw the van opened and blocking the way on the road. The men were trying to apprehend the ladies till I stepped in."
Hannah gave me a gentle pat. "I never knew my brother had this side of him. I'm impressed and shocked at the same time."
I laughed. "It's not everything you know about me. The same applies to me too. I just didn't think it was important to tell you."
"Well, it was." she laughed. "Wait until mom hear this."
"Is that really important ?"
"How are you going to explain the blood on your shirt ?"
I knew I had to eventually tell my mom but she's not a fan of violence so I'm guessing she wouldn't be too enthusiastic about the news.
"Fine, fine. We will tell her. Happy now ?" I playfully frowned at Hannah.
"You don't have a choice." she smirked.
We laughed and when it died down, no one spoke a word. We just sat there staring around in the waiting room. My eyes were roaming around the room and I landed on Sonya and her friend. I was focused on Sonya and I looked away before she caught my gaze.
I don't really know why we waited, but I felt it wasn't right to just go after helping deliver two unconscious men. So it seemed Hannah and I were sticking around to hear of the health of the men before we left.
Thirty minutes had past and no news on the condition of the men. In my head, I knew the man who wasn't bleeding was safe cause he just passed out. But the one who was bleeding is the real one in danger. I just hope he recovers and regains his strength.
After some few minutes, Hannah buys us some water and we two quench our thirst. Finally, a nurse came into the waiting room and asked of those who had brought in two men. The four of us stood up together and approached her. She walked us through the hall and explained the situation.
"One of the men had a mild concussion and it just caused him lose consciousness. His case isn't serious. He just needs some medication, rest and he will be discharged within a day."
"What about the one who was bleeding ?" Sonya asked.
"He had a serious head trauma, just on the left side of his head which caused blood vessels in that area to rapture and bleed profusely." she explained. "Luckily, you brought him here just in time before he lost too much blood. The head injury however, isn't fatal. It has induced migraine and may cause difficulty in thinking for some days. So, all in all, he's going to be fine but he will be here in the hospital for at least, 4 days."
"Oh thank goodness," Sonya sighed. "That's good news."
"Before you go, can you write down your contacts so we could reach out if there's any problem ?"
"I would do that then." Sonya answered.
"Good." the nurse said.
With that, she left us in the hallway and we walked back to the waiting room and sat down at our former positions. I was about to tell Hannah that it was time to go but just in that moment, a plump medium height man, dressed eloquently, emerged into the waiting room with two tall men dressed in black suits. He went quickly to Sonya and the other lady and it took me seconds to realize it was Mr. Hanson.
He was busy conversing with the two ladies and I couldn't decipher a word. I looked at Hannah and alerted her it was time to go. We both stood up and left the room, walking towards the exit of the hospital. We were about to leave the hospital building when we heard a call from behind us. We turned back and saw Mr. Hanson approaching us with one of his men. We halted and waited for him.
He finally got to us and his man gave us some space. "Good afternoon, fine gentleman and lady."
"Good afternoon." we responded.
"I just heard from my daughters that you were able to intercept their kidnapping." he went on.
"Yes, it's true." I confirmed.
He smiled. "I would personally like to thank you very much for what you have done. You don't know how much it means to me. I'm forever indebted."
"Oh, don't worry." I replied. "I was just helping out. It didn't sit right with me to do nothing."
"Your deeds will not go unrewarded," Mr. Hanson said as he took a cheque book from his man behind him. "It is only fair I give out some compensation for the trouble you went through to save my daughters and workers."
He was about to write in his cheque book and I spoke up abruptly. "That wouldn't be necessary," I smiled. "The honour of saving your daughters and workers are enough. Thanks."
He was slightly disappointed. "I wouldn't feel okay that I didn't reward a man who had helped me out. Come on, tell me, what do you want other than money and I can sort you out."
I was about to answer, then, Hannah spoke up and interrupted me.
"He wants a job, Mr. Hanson."
We all turned to her direction. She continued anyways. "My brother lost his job today and he is currently looking for one."
"Is that true, young man ?" he inquired.
I couldn't lie though. "Yes, it's true, Mr. Hanson."
Mr. Hanson returned his cheque book to the man behind him. "Then that settles it," he began. "Your skills to handle difficult situations and solve them with ease has earned you a perfect job opportunity. How would you like to be my house manager ?"
I didn't really understand the concept of a house manager and I was taking time to process whether or not I should accept the offer but Hannah did the thinking for me.
"That would great," she answered. "He would be happy to work for you."
I thought Mr. Hanson would confront me again but he just went with my sister's decision. "That's good. Can you start work tomorrow ?"
I had nothing to do tomorrow, so....."Yeah, I can."
"That's perfect," Mr. Hanson commented. He gave me a small notepad and pen. Confusion was all over my face, so he explained. "Can you kindly write down your address and your bank account ? The driver would come to pick you up tomorrow."
I wrote my address and bank account number in the book and handed it back to Mr. Hanson. "Why ?" I queried. I also wondered why he asked for my account this early.
"Because you will be staying there as you are working," Mr. Hanson replied. "And don't worry, you can go home on weekends. Also, I will be paying you weekly, so do a good job and try your best."
"Okay." was all I could say.
"Good," he said. "See you tomorrow, Mr... what's your name, young man ?"
"My name is Kelvin Walter." I answered.
"Okay, see you tomorrow, Mr. Walter."
Mr. Hanson and his man left us outside and when they were out of sight, I focused on Hannah and stabbed a frown at her. She ignored me and just started walking towards the exit.
"Where do you think you are going, Hannah ?"
.
Sonya
Upon all the people I could have thought would come to my aid, the waiter from the restaurant never crossed my mind. It's a small world indeed. He came to our rescue and when he started to fight off the kidnappers, we thought he would be beaten but to our surprise, he pinned all of them down and drove us to the hospital with some lady. Even though, I still dislike him for what he did on Wednesday, I'm still grateful for what he has done today.
I called my dad when we got to the waiting room and he came to the hospital in half an hour. He was worried sick and asked of our wellbeing. We told him everything was fine with us and we explained what happened. He left the room with one of his bodyguards and left the other to watch over us. He came back later after a few minutes.
"Sonya, you see having the bodyguard was very important ?" he faced me.
"You were using him to monitor me." I replied.
"Nevertheless, he at least tried to fight off the men," my dad reminded. "When your bodyguard recovers, he will be back to work and this time, armed to the teeth."
I couldn't object this time round cause I actually need protection if people are trying to kidnap me. "Okay, dad."
"And don't worry about your sister. I will call the authorities on campus and ask them to reschedule the meeting for tomorrow, to which I would go instead." he informed.
At least, Delilah would be happy about the turn of events. "Today has been unexpected. You two should go home and have some rest."
I couldn't agree more. Before we left, I wrote down the house number, just in case of an emergency. One of the men drove us home and my dad went back to work. I hit the shower once I got home. I had sat too close to the unconscious bodyguard when we were in the car and I needed to get rid of any smell on me.
After a long, relaxing bath, I wore my green silk robe and tuned in on my plasma in my quarters. The shows got me hooked for a long time and finally, a phone call caught my attention.
"Hey girl, what's up ?" I greeted.
"I'm good and you ?"
"I'm still recovering from what went on this afternoon."
"What ? Did something go wrong ?"
I told Olivia everything that happened to the tiniest detail. Her voice sounded like she didn't believe entirely everything I said.
"You mean you were about to get kidnapped ?"
"It sounds crazy but it's very real. I was so scared." I admitted.
"It's not really crazy cause you are the daughter of a millionaire. Someone is trying to get a ransom."
"Well, not from me. I'm not going to be someone's tool for money." I responded.
"So you are going to accept the bodyguard, right ?"
"Of course, I have to. Until the person behind this is caught, I would need protection."
"That's for your own good," Olivia complimented. "And the hero behind your safety is that waiter from the restaurant ?"
"I can't make this up," I told her. "I wonder where he even came from. He just came in and dealt with the men."
Olivia laughed hysterically. "The person you were shouting on, just saved your life. How ironic is this ?" She went on laughing again.
"Ha ha," I mimicked. "Laugh all you want. He is still not in my good books."
"Even after saving you ? Come on, Sonya."
"I'm not listening to you." I decided to change the topic. "So now that we have figured out the business, we need to plot our next move."
"That's why I was calling you."
"Let's make it formal, Olivia. Come over tomorrow and let's see what we can come up with."
"Alright, I'll be there tomorrow, Sonya."
"See you tomorrow then."
"See you too."
I was about to hang up then she spoke up.
"Tomorrow, I'm coming with Dennis though..."
"What ?!"
