Sonya
I was genuinely confused when I saw the guy that saved me yesterday, standing right before me, near the swimming pool. The guy then also faced my direction and our eyes met for a couple of seconds. We just stared at each other till the guy turned back and walked into the house. The worker then followed him inside. I frowned as I was in further confusion.
"Did you just see that ?" Olivia broke into my thoughts. "He is here !"
"I know.....duh. We just saw him now." I sighed drastically. I held my chin as I thought deeper. "But what is he doing here ?"
"Maybe, he's here to come and talk to you."
"If that was true, then he would have approached me but instead, he just left." I sat back under the open hut. "And besides, what is he coming to talk to me about ? I don't even want to see his face."
"You again with the hostility." Olivia chuckled. "Stop being arrogant and pouty. You should be grateful for what happened, rather than dwell in the unfortunate past."
"He was staring at me."
"How is that a big deal ?"
"He's a pervert."
Olivia groaned frustratingly. "Ugh, sometimes you are so difficult. Stop acting childish and move on. Will it kill you to do that ?"
"Acting childish ?" I repeated rhetorically. "Fine. I hope this is mature."
I picked up my phone and dialed my father's number. Olivia tried to get my attention but I ignored her. He picked up after a while.
"Yes dear ?"
"Dad, I want to ask you something urgent."
"What is it dear ?" he replied. "Make it quick. I'm in the middle of something with the school authorities."
"Did you hire anyone recently dad ?" I inquired, patiently waiting for his answer.
"Yes I did. That was yesterday."
"And can I know why you hired the person ?" I pushed my luck.
"Sonya, I don't have time for a quiz. I'm busy right now." he fired up. "Do you have a problem with the hiring ?"
I didn't know what to say, so I just kept quiet.
"That's what I thought. Have a good day."
He hanged up immediately and I just sat there. I wasn't sure if what happened really happened. Olivia then snapped me back to reality.
"Girl, what were you doing ?"
I shrugged. I'm not even sure why I called my father. But Olivia was getting on my nerves and that pushed me to do something stupid. I just hope my dad forgets about the incident and never speaks of it again.
"Were you trying to get your dad to fire the guy ?" Olivia went on. "You don't even know if he works here or not. Maybe he was even visiting your dad or something."
I stared at Olivia with a straight face. "The way you are supporting this guy, someone has to tell Prince that he has a rival."
"Are you kidding me ?" Olivia responded hastily. "I'm being serious here and you are taking it like a joke. You know what ? I think I'll give you some space, so you can reflect on your actions and see how immature you were acting."
Olivia stood up with her bag and walked into the house. I wanted to call her back and reconcile but the words weren't coming out. I just sat there and watched her leave. When she was gone, I grunted remorsefully. This is the second time we have had a fallout this week and it's thanks to that idiot of a guy.
I should have just held back my words and kept quiet. I understand that I should be grateful for his good deed towards me but my trust issues aren't giving me that privilege. I just feel that the guy has more than meet the eyes and I'm going to trust my guts on this one. I'll never allow myself to be casual with him. Ever.
As I sat down bummed out, I knew I had to go and make up with Olivia but I felt it was too soon. Olivia also needed to cool down and later on, we could get this over with. I know sometimes I'm hardheaded and I'm the cause of like 90% of our quarrels, but I have a conscience and it's telling me to make things right with her.
I finally decided to stay back under the open hut for a while and relax before I act. It would be over soon. I know that.

Those few seconds I had staring at Sonya were the most bizzare and uncomfortable seconds I have ever experienced in my life. It was like staring at someone who tried to kill you before but didn't get the opportunity to do so. The only thing that crossed my mind at that moment was to get the heck out of that place. So I quickly went back inside whiles Mike followed me later.
Mike caught up with me in the hallway. "Kelvin, is everything alright ? Do you know them ?"
I shook my head. "No, I don't know them. I just felt like I was intruding their space. That's why I left."
"Well, you left quickly. I barely noticed when you left." Mike cleared his throat. "Anyways, that was one of Mr. Hanson's daughter and her friend."
"Okay. Let's forget about that." I suggested. "Shall we continue the tour ?"
"Alright," Mike agreed. "We are done with the major features on the compound. We can continue with the main house then."
"No problem."
We walked back to the big hall. "This is the master living room." Mike introduced.
"The master living room ? Are there more ?"
"Actually there are." he confirmed. "There is one parlour on the far right side of the house on the ground floor. There's another parlour on the far left side of the house on the first floor and lastly, there are two parlours on both sides of the house on the last floor."
"Four parlours on different sections of the house ?" I was perplexed. "What's up with these parlours ?"
Mike laughed briefly. "This is the master living room. This is where they normally receive guests and family relatives. The three parlours on the first and second floor are were they sit and relax indoors. That's where they can have close friends over to chat and relax."
"What about the parlour on the ground floor ?"
"They hardly use that parlour, so we, the workers use it as a place to relax and converse." Mike noted.
"Then you guys are having a good time over here." I commented.
Mike chuckled. "That's what you think. Let's move on."
We exited the master living room and walked through the hallway. We stopped by rooms along the hallway and Mike introduced me to various rooms on the ground floor.
He showed me the gym which was spacious and air-conditioned. The gym was really enticing and I'm hoping one day I could come use it for a while.
I also got to the recreational room where there was a pool table, a table tennis, foosball, darts, some chairs and a refrigerator filled with beverages. The room had been set up to be like an indoor game room.
The ground floor had some rooms that made me scratch my head. There was a room containing just art exhibits. The room was filled with paintings and drawings that I think might have been very expensive. There was another room which I assume was the library. Filled with shelfs containing enough books. There were tables and chairs present, incase of imminent reading.
I even came across a room filled with like two dozens of chairs and there was a projector hanging from the ceiling and there was a wall painted white, which all the chairs faced. Mike told me it was a "home theater" and I was dumbfounded. The master living room has a wide plasma with almost a dozen sofas. Why have a home theater then ? I can't understand rich people.
These rooms were huge and spacious. We got near the far right side of the house and Mike showed me the dinning room. It was long and had a long stylish table. There were about 16 chairs in total around the table. And there were vases with artificial flowers to beautify the room. Everything was perfect.
Right after the dinning room, we used the hallway and I finally saw the parlour Mike was talking about. It was neat and posh. Had like 5 sofas and a glass table in the middle. The room even had the same sweet smelling fragrance like the gym.
Then I remembered something. "I thought I would see your mates relaxing here."
"The time I left here when you arrived, there was only one person here. Two of them were in the guesthouse and the other was working on the last floor," Mike narrated. "I have no idea where they may be now."
"Okay." I finalized.
We left the room and through the hallway, we got to another room but this room had a huge silver door. Mike knocked boldly. The door opened momentarily.
The first thing that hit me was the sweet fragrance from the room. Then a head popped out of the small crack created by the door. The person looked like a chef. When he saw Mike, he opened the door a little more.
"Yo Mike," he greeted. "What's up ?"
The guy was clad in white chef's clothing and he even had the chef hat too. Through the crack, I could see utensils hanging on the wall from a distance. I could also see a cupboard attached to the wall as well. Then I realized it was a kitchen.
"George, this is Kelvin," Mike introduced. "The new house manager."
George left the door and shook my hand gently. "Nice to meet you, Kelvin. Welcome."
"Thanks. Nice to meet you too." I responded.
"So are you showing him around the place ?" George focused on Mike.
"Yeah," Mike affirmed. "I was just about to show him the kitchen, since he might be coming here more often."
"Alright, alright. Come in." George opened the door wide open. "We are in the middle of something though..."
Mike and I entered the room and George closed it afterwards. The kitchen was as luscious as the house itself. The first thing I noticed was the people in the room. There was a young man and woman standing at a huge kitchen counter in the middle of the kitchen, cutting some vegetables on chopping boards. There were 6 high lush stools placed at the counter.
When we entered, we attracted their attention and they gazed at us. More of like, they gazed at me. The lady was dressed in a chef's uniform but the guy wasn't. He was wearing the same white long sleeves like Mike. I also noticed a lady far off at the end of the room, it looked like she was working on a stove. She was a chef and also turned to see who had entered.
George walked straight to the counter. "Francis, I told you not to cut them for me. You are not a chef. Find another way to woo Mimi or tell Mr. Hanson you want to become a chef."
Mimi laughed as Francis dropped the knife and backed away groaning.
"That's harsh bro." Francis murmured as he frowned playfully.
"Attention guys..." Mike stepped forward and gave a brief pause till the place was silent. "We have a new member on our crew and I want to introduce you all to him. Here is our new house manager, Kelvin."
Mike gestured and I moved forward to where he was. "Hi guys," I waved. "Nice to meet you all. Can I know your names ?"
"Let me do the honours," George offered. He pointed to the lady next to him. "This is Mirabel, but we call her Mimi. She's the shy and quiet type unless she's drunk or very free with you."
Mimi gave him a punch on his arm. "Don't mind him. I'm not really like that."
George pointed to the guy he had just shooed away a minute ago. "This is Francis, a hardheaded guy. He's a talkative and likes worrying Mimi but she's not giving him the chance."
"Heyyyyy..." Francis protested from the back.
Finally, George directed us to one side of the room where the other chef was. "That's Valentina or Tina for short. She.....she.....I don't know how to describe her. You will find out for yourself."
"You are not serious." Tina chuckled.
"So the three of us are chefs," George summed up. "Whiles Francis is a worker, like Mike."
"Thanks very much," I smiled at George. The chefs then went on their activities and Mike showed me around the kitchen. There were two ovens in the kitchen, three cooking stoves, numerous cupboards on the wall, frequently used utensils hanging also, there was a grill, a huge sink for washing dishes and a tall freezer.
There were also some rooms in the kitchen. There was a storeroom for foodstuffs and a changing room also. There was a bin for garbage and there was a washroom, far off from the kitchen. It turns out they were about to prepare something with fried chicken cause that's what I was perceiving.
Mike and I finished the tour around the kitchen and we waved the rest goodbye. We got to the parlour and met two ladies just entering as we were. They were dressed in an all black maid straight dress attire Mike introduced me to Favour and Lilian. They were housemaids. It was just a short introduction. Nothing special but smiles, handshakes and some short words.
Through the hallway, Mike revealed an elevator to me. He explained that Mr. Hanson doesn't use the stairs that much, so he got an elevator. We used it to get to the first floor. The master living room had taken a portion of the first floor, so it didn't have much space like the grand floor. There was a bar and gaming room there. I have even lost words for why a game room should be here when there's an arcade downstairs.
Mike introduced the guestrooms to me. There were 6 guestrooms on the first floor and they were much bigger than the one on the white guesthouse. These guestrooms also had their own washrooms. So basically, the first floor just had mostly guestrooms and two balconies. The grand floor had the most exciting rooms. We moved on to the last floor.
This floor just had master rooms. The master rooms were the biggest I've ever seen and I understood why they took all the space on the last floor. The last floor had two balconies as well and 6 master rooms. He showed me where Mr. Hanson and his wife shared a master room and he also showed his children's master rooms. I paid close attention so I could avoid them totally.
Finally we got to one master room and Mike told me that it was mine. I was lost for words but we entered anyways. This room was huge. I had my own mini parlour with four sofas around a table and there was a flat screen TV. The bedroom was neat with a king-size bed, tall wide wardrobe and some expensive utilities. The washroom was as stylish as the rest and I had a great view through the windows of the room. All in all, I had a posh room.
Mike handed me the latest iPad. "You'll need this for your home management. Have some rest and begin work whenever you want."
With that, Mike left the room and I sat on one of the sofas and sighed heavily. My life was about to completely change.
