Sonya
Hearing Raymond's voice sparked so much anger that I dragged Olivia to the other exit of the parlour. We walked quickly through the big house and got out through the back exit. We sneaked behind the hedges and bushes so that Raymond couldn't detect us. We got to the car park and I could see Raymond in front of the main house. Raymond was now walking to the door. I waited for him to enter and when he did, Olivia and I rushed to one of my car.
We got in and I drove off in a haste. Unfortunately, Raymond came out and saw my car leaving the car park. He hurried to his car and drove after us. I sped out of the house and angrily drove through the streets.
"Sonya, please drive slowly." Olivia implored. "I know you hate Raymond this much but think about our safety first."
I didn't slow down till I left the long street that led to my family's house. When I got to the main road, I slowed down finally.
Olivia was relieved and gave me a hard punch on my arm. "Drive carefully next time."
It hurt a little but that pain was more tolerable than being in the presence of Raymond Kingsley, my ex-boyfriend. His face alone makes me go mad and memories of everything we had together comes flashing through my head.
Raymond was my heart's fuel for living through my tedious life with my father and I was really wishing on spending my life with him forever. But everything came crashing down last three weeks when I caught him cheating on me with his so-called ex, red-handed. I was so devastated and I left the scene immediately.
I cried that day and I was very angry at myself for placing my whole heart before Raymond, only for him to crush it. Raymond gave me some time alone and he started trying to contact me last week. Ever since then, I've been avoiding him. He still hasn't given up and he's still intent on talking to me.
Not on my watch. I drove through the roads and periodically checked if he was behind us. I didn't see his car behind, so I concluded that we had lost him. I faced Olivia and she was looking at me strangely.
"What ?" I muttered.
"Why are you putting yourself through all this trouble ? Just hear him out." she suggested.
I hissed loudly . "Your boyfriend hasn't cheated on you yet, that's why you have that level of confidence. I'm not hearing him out."
"I trust Prince enough to know he won't do that." she stated. "Not all men are the same, you know. Some are different and loyal."
"That's what they all say." I grumbled.
Olivia watched out of the car's window. "So where are you going now ?"
"Somewhere we can sit and talk about the business ideas."
Olivia tapped me and pointed ahead. "Let's go to that restaurant then."
The place was called Gusto's and it was huge. I decided to take Olivia's choice and go with it. I drove into the parking lot and parked the car. We got out and walked into the restaurant. I'm not going to lie, I was impressed.
The place was well arranged, decorated with exquisite art and paintings, the furniture was plush, the aroma from the alone was a 10/10 and the environment was compelling.
"Do you want to eat something here ?" Olivia queried.
"Not really. A drink will do."
Olivia also wasn't interested in eating there so we decided to go for a drink. Turns out that the bars with the alcoholic drinks were on the 2nd floor, so we took an elevator there. When we got there, we noticed like there were three separate bar counters and we were trying to decide where to go until—he called.
I looked at my phone in fury and hanged up. When I block his number, he keeps getting new ones and calls me with them.
Right then, I knew he was using a new number cause it was an unknown number and only a few people have my number.
Olivia stood opposite me to try and persuade me again. "When will you actually get a change of heart and finally hear him out ?"
"I'm not going to listen to a word he says. Why did he wait till recently to contact me ? I could have listened then but now, I'm over it."
"You are such a hard person to deal with it."
"That's what I inherited from my dad." I replied as I rolled my eyes.
"Is that something to be proud of, Sonnie ?"
"Let's just drop the topic, I'm tired of this. Let's just get some drinks and come up with something I can start with." I requested.
Olivia tapped and pointed to one of the counters. "That guy there was staring at you. Isn't that cute ?" she said as she laughed.
I knew it wasn't something serious but I felt outraged and decided to channel my anger on the guy. I went over to the counter to chew him out and Olivia tried to get us to leave. I saw the manager and reported to him but Olivia was defending the guy and the manager actually listened to her.
The aftermath was that the manager would deal with the guy and we left the scene altogether. I was now mad at Olivia for siding with the guy. When I drove home, we didn't utter a word to each other. I even forgot I was hiding from Raymond.
I got out the car when I had parked the car at home and Olivia followed suit. I marched towards the door and Olivia stood behind.
"See you later." she said.
I didn't look behind. I continued walking till I got to the door. I opened it and got into the house. Olivia got into her car and drove off.
I went into my bathroom, undressed myself and laid in the bathtub as it was getting filled with water. Recapping what happened tonight, Olivia and I didn't even get a chance to sit and talk about the business ideas. And it's all because of Raymond and that pervert bar attendant...

After Mr. Boston left, I faced Eugene. "Bro, what's wrong with you ? Just making me stare at random ladies ?"
"I'm sorry," Eugene pleaded. "But I didn't ask you to stare at her like that." He had a glint of amusement on his face.
"I zoned off."
"You zoned off ?" he laughed. "See ? This is one of the reasons I did that. You have been single for a long time that you don't know what you are missing out on. This is why I want to introduce you to ladies."
"By making me stare at them ?"
"Hey, I did my part. It was over to you to do yours." he said as he raised his hands in defence.
"I'm not like you, Mr. lover boy," I chuckled. "I'm actually happy with the way I am now and I'm not going to be going around, scouting for ladies. And what do you mean by doing my part ? You wanted me to actually go over to that woman ? Heck no. I would rather take a pay cut."
"Come on, you know she's hot." Eugene teased.
"I still won't be with her. A woman with such arrogance and pride ? I'll pass." I replied. "Plus, it can never work out. What's a waiter going to showcase to a millionaire's daughter ? It's just a dream, Eugene."
"Anything is possible you know. You don't know what can happen."
"I do know what will happen," I interjected. "And it's that we will never be together....even if I had a choice. Period."
Eugene just laughed and went back to texting on his phone. After standing for a while, I decided to sit down behind the counter.
I remembered the warning from Mr. Boston and I decided to mind my own business. I didn't pay attention to those walking around the bar or drinking in their seats. I just sat there reading some sports news online. Eugene was busy attending to one person at that time.
As the evening dragged on, I got bored and decided to stand up a little and stretch a leg. Eugene had got out to take a leak, leaving me alone behind the counter. As I was standing, I noticed a young man enter the bar. He seemed lost or looking for someone who he had lost. I couldn't tell.
Our eyes met and this man walked up to me at the counter. He was breathing really fast and he took in a deep breath to try and even it out.
Then he faced me. "Have you seen a chocolate skinned young woman around here ? She was with a friend." I didn't answer so he continued his description. "I didn't actually see what she wore but her friend is fair and taller than her a little bit. Have any ideas ?"
It took me a second to realize who. "Are you talking about Mr. Hanson's daughter ?"
The man's face lit up. "Yes, yes. Do you know where they are ?"
I had a look of disgust on my face. "That arrogant paranoid lady ? After slandering me and almost making me lose my job for something insignificant, she and her friend exited the bar. I have no idea where they went."
The man became furious. "Watch your tongue, you fool! You are talking about my girlfriend and I won't tolerate an iota of disrespect from anyone towards her. Especially from some clown that works at a bar."
Now this made me angry. To think that Sonya's boyfriend was this man, made me feel pity for him cause he doesn't know who he's dealing with but I won't let his insults slide.
I walked forward with some ferocity. "Just because I rated her differently than you expected, doesn't give you the right to come here and insult me. It's the truth, you would actually know if you were paying attention to her..."
"Talk about her like that again and you'll see what I would do to you." he warned as he pointed at me.
"She's a spoilt brat" I said boldly. I was about to walk out of the counter when Eugene appeared and held me back. "Let go of me, Eugene."
"Kelvin, it's not worth it," he reasoned. "Are you trying to lose your job ?"
The man watched us struggled. "Pathetic. You have wasted my time here with your buffoonery. Let's see what your manager thinks about this."
At this point, I wasn't scared anymore. I broke free from Eugene and I would have actually beaten the young man if he didn't leave the bar quickly. I shot a dead face at Eugene and he just shook his head sympathetically.
Some people in the bar looked at us after the commotion and I wasn't bothered in the slightest. I went back behind the counter and waited for my manager to show up. And he did show up a few minutes later.
"Kelvin, what happened here again ?" he asked nonchalantly.
"I had an argument with a customer, sir." I admitted.
"And was all what the customer tell me true ?"
"Yes sir."
"Very well," he said. "You are suspended for the evening. Take the night off and go home. I'll call you when your suspension has been lifted."
I took my possessions from the counter, walked into the changing room, got into my clothes and walked out of the restaurant. I didn't say a word to anyone. I just had thoughts roaming around my head, just asking how this Wednesday evening had gone bad.
I got to the roadside, boarded a taxi and got to my apartment, which was a 5 minutes drive. It was almost 11pm and all the fatigue and stress I had harboured during the day surfaced. I slumped to sleep immediately I got to my bedroom.
On bed, I had forgotten all about my worries and troubles. What mattered then was getting some good quality sleep and that's what I needed at that moment. Sleep came quickly and I was out cold like a rug.
