Chapter 9 - Unexpected encounter

Zack reached home and saw than neither, both his siblings nor his mother were present.

With nothing else to do, he went to indulge in his experiments in his personal laboratory.

He made some renovation and adjustments on his pending experiment, the solemn golemn.

From his intuition, he speculated that the experiment would be probably finished within the next two days.

After he was done with the experiment, he then went to rest, to relieve the mental fatigue of the long taxing day.

Once asleep, Zack had a unusual dream, the dream was about an old man, with messy white hair and a pair of brown metallic googles with golden eye lenses.

The man was sitted on a small wooden chair and table, in a place that appeared to be a basement of a house.

On the table infront of the man, there was a large time clock that was infused with numerous tubes.

The clock had steam pipes that occasionally steamed with hot steam and inside the clocks, countless iron gears could be seen.

Aside from the strange clock, there were other unique scientific items on the table.

There were a pair of iron gloves with steam tubes connected to a metal backpack. There was a simple looking revolver with steam occasionally seeping from its cylinder barrel and there was a large metallic book with a few words inscribed on it.

Upon looking at the words on the book the, language was unfamiliar to Zack, but he could strangely understand its meaning.

The words inscribed only one word, fate.

Once he saw the book, Zack suddenly heard the man with the messy white hair speak.

"Weak, you are still to weak, at this point you wont be of any use to me"

Shaking his head the man then turned his gaze towards Zack and said,

"Do me a favor will you, yes, yes, wait no, on second thought not a favor but would you complete a task for me. Before I give you the task, l want you to first survive the following week, that means you will have to avoid that troubling genetic enhancement process that you were planning to participate. l won't give you a reward, yes surviving the week itself will be a reward in itself"

After saying those words, the man and his surroundings began to become hazy and illusory and a moment later Zack woke up from his dream, feeling a sense of nostalgia.

'What was that?

The young boy was clearly puzzled by this weird dream. Mostly it was because of how real the dream felt like.

Without any luck in his speculations, Zack decided to dismiss the matter as nothing but a strange dream.

He woke up from his bed, proceeded with cleaning himself up.

After that he went to retrieve food from the pantry to eat to relieve his hunger. Once he was done, he once again immersed himself in his experiments once again.

Ever since the official announcement of the enhancement project, schools had been closed off, general working jobs had also been closed off leaving only government and military related jobs active, this was one of the reasons why Zack's family was now always not at home.

Since Zack didn't need to go to school and since his scheduled appointment for the genetic enhancement process was three days away, he didn't need to leave the house.

He could indulge in his experiments to his heart content.

He spent the rest of the day, focusing on broadening his scientific knowledge through the use of his father personal working diary.

Most of the information of the diary was very complex and hard for him to understand, so he wasn't able to understand most of its information.

There were other parts that he could understand and some parts he could vaguely understand, which kind of helped him in broadening his knowledge. As for why Zack was trying to broaden his knowledge, well it was because he was attempting to lay down the ground work for him to break into the next stage of sorcery, the advanced stage.

Advancing to this stage was extremely hard for Zack, due to the path of sorcery he studied.

Scientific sorcery was the hardest and most complex field one could study in. It was also hard to advance to higher stages, to the point that it was said to be theoretically impossible to advance.

This was why most sorcerers and scientist tended to pursue only one path.

It was also the reason why, Zack's advancement to a scientific apprentice sorcorer was so shocking.

According to what Zack knew, in order to Advance to the advanced stage of sorcery he had to broaden his understanding of mystic language and its rudimentary runes.

After broadening this knowledge to a masterful level, he had to create a grimmore by imprinting his accumulated knowledge with his consciousness and emotions.

Since Zack was not just a sorcerer but a scientific one, he had to not only use this method, but also to somehow craft the grimmore using scientific technology, which was not an easy task to say the least.

In the process of creating a grimmore, Zack planned on using mystical alloy for the its outer layer and then mix it with mystical wood to form the book's hard cover, then the pages would be created from his own mental imprints and soul energy.

The task was a daunting one to say the least, not only did the young boy have to find the rare mystical wood but he also had to find a way to infuse his consciousness with soul energy and project it to the outside world.

Zack currently wasn't even able to project soul energy and was only able to project his consciousness on small tangible items with less heavy properties.

Pondering over his sudden bottleneck, Zack decided to take a break for today, after all the matter of advancing to a higher stage couldn't possibly be completed in one day, he was just laying the basics and groundwork to prepare to advance.

Exiting out of the laboratory, Zack decided to take a walk outside, to gain some fresh air and relieve his weary mind.

The neighborhood was calm and serene, devoid of any cars and people, Zack knew that this was mostly due to the genetic enhancement process that had been issued four days ago.

Since the process began, daily jobs had been closed off, giving people time to experience the suicidal experience.

Zack knew that most people were probably in hospitals and research facilities, and those whose day of the experiment had yet to arrive were probably enjoying their free time in meeting friends and traveling, unlike him who preferred to be locked up in his lab alone focusing on weird experience.

Taking a deep breath and enhaling the fresh air, Zack mind seemed to relax at this moment.

The greenery scene of his neighborhood seemed to add to his mental relaxation.

The past few days had been quite tense for the young spectacled boy, due to the changes of the world.

The tension caused by the absence of his family and the constant accumulation of fear for his dreaded day of the experiment which was tomorrow, was proving to be burdensome for the young boy's mind.

Added by the constant indulgence of tough experience and the dreading approach of his birthday, the stress accumulation was just too much.

So it was no surprise that once he took a break the feeling was quite relaxing.

As Zack continued to walk forward on the empty streetway, he soon encounter an unexpected and yet familiar person.

Ahead of him on a wooden electrical pole, he noticed a young boy with disheveled brown hair, leaning on the wooden pole with a calm smile displayed on his face.

Beside the young boy there a small figure clad in a oversized dark hooded cloak.

The figure was crouching quietly on the ground in a strangely agile spider style.

Looking at this two figures, Zack stopped dead in his tracks, the fact that he bumped into his strange awakened classmate who had earlier shown a kin interest in him back at school, couldn't possibly be a coincidence.

He stopped for a moment, cautiously watching the two figures in front of him with vigilance.

At this moment, Zack suddenly realized that if the other party wanted to kill him, here in the quite neighborhood with no visible people around, the task would be so eazy.

Although the neighborhood had well structured surveillance system, Zack believed that erasing the corresponding footage of today would pose no challenge for the brown haired boy who possessed awakened abilities and was probably backed by a powerful organization.

He believed that the other party had a organization backing him because according to what he knew awakened humans were so rare and scarce that their value was the greatest in the entire world.

At this moment, Leon who had been staring dazedly at the dark blue sky, suddenly said out loud turning his gaze to Zack with a calm smile on his face.

"Strange isn't it?
