Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: First day in Valis

I hear some people whispering beside me. I open my eyes and I faintly see my parents and sister looking at me.

They look happy and when they see that I have woken up, my mom first check my diapers (it's just actually just a piece of cloth wrapped around me) washed my behind (embarassing and awkward) then proceeded to nurse me. They fixed the huge mattress and put it aside and then prepared a huge folding table and some folding wooden chairs. Interesting.

My sister looks at me warily as my father chops wood in the backyard and do farm chores. (I know the sound of an axe and a hoe when I hear them).

Afterwards, my father came inside the house and they ate breakfast. They do the horizontal eight sign again before eating. I guess doing a holy gesture before prayer is done everywhere in the universe.

I look at my sister from time to time, thinking on what to say to her.

How do I prepare for this?

I decide to remember the rules of engagement on hostile territory again. What was it?

Regarding being on a hostile territory: Await for your allies and if you have none, build a team. If you cannot build a team, leave the location if you can and return when you are well equipped and manned for the job.

Right now, I need to tell my sister to talk to the Priest and warn them of what's happening. They would be my ally. I also need to train my sister of the basic fighting arts of the Old Ways.

If she starts now, she will be a master in a few years. She can then gather a team for me as I am still a child, so we can prepare for the worst. I also need to learn how to speak as early as possible and to walk as early as possible.

According to history, the earliest record of a child walking was 6 months and the earliest record of a child speaking was 7 weeks. I've tried teaching my daughter how to speak and walk when she was a baby, but it took her a year to do so. I don't have the luxury of time though.

After breakfast, my mother told my sister to watch over me. This is the perfect time to speak with her.

"Hello sister. Do you have a moment?" I said in a serious tone.

She looked around and when she saw that no one is looking, took me into her arms and pretended to cuddle me.

I then tell her to draw pictures of the things around us and say it. She then takes me backyard, she then drew a picture of herself, our parents and the basic things in the house. She also told me about the word for food, going to potty and sleep. I gesture to her the things that she says, so when she says eat, I do a eating gesture, for sleep, a sleeping gesture. For going to the restroom, a dropping gesture (the drop a log gesture (smirk).

Over a next few days, she tells me what she can and I tell her the gestures for them. By the end of the sixth day, we can comfortably speak with gestures. We have created our own sign language. I told her not to show this on public or when there are people around because it would look weird.

I decided that it would be a good time to rest on the 7th day, to honor the Creator. I wonder if they also have a Sunday rest day? I'm not sure if it's Sunday though. We often get a visit from the local priest who would check on me and pray for me. Wow, the priests here are sure dedicated.

After dinner, my father was ready to close the door of our house when I heard a voice and my danger sense got activated.

The door was opened and a man entered. The hair on my back stood when I heard the person speak.

This was the voice of the intruder a while ago.
