Chapter 28 - Evelyn- twentyeight

I took a deep breath,  giggles spreading across my face as I prepared to share every last detail.

"So, where do I even begin?" I started, glancing at each of them. The excitement in their eyes was palpable, their energy contagious. "It was the night he cooked dinner for me—can you believe that? Christopher Hemsworth cooked for me! Pasta, and it was honestly the best thing I've ever tasted."

Mary squealed, practically bouncing in her seat. "Of course he cooks too. He's perfect!"

Juli leaned in, her eyes wide with curiosity. "What did he say? What was the moment you knew he was serious?"

I laughed, remembering it vividly. "It was after dinner. He just looked at me—like, really looked at me—and said, 'I can't imagine my life without you in it.'" I paused, "And then, he got down on one knee. Right there in the kitchen."

Sara gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "No way! Are you serious?"

I nodded, feeling the warmth flood my chest again. "He didn't have a ring or anything planned. It was just pure emotion. He said he didn't want to wait anymore, that he didn't care about grand gestures or perfect timing—he just wanted me by his side, forever."

Juli clutched her heart dramatically. "I'm dying! That is so romantic. How could you say anything but yes?"

"I didn't even hesitate," I admitted, my cheeks flushing as I relived the moment. "I was in shock, but at the same time, it felt so right. Like, this is it—this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with."

Sara leaned back in her chair, shaking her head in disbelief. "I can't believe this. You're marrying one of the biggest stars on the planet."

"Forget that!" Mary interjected, her hands flying into the air. "She's marrying a man who worships her! That's the real win."

We all burst into laughter,  filled with their overwhelming excitement, the questions came flooding in, rapid-fire.

"So, when's the wedding?"

"Are you going to have a big Hollywood thing or something more private?"

"Are we going to meet his family? Oh my God, are we going to meet Thor?!"

I couldn't help but giggle at their enthusiasm. "Okay, okay, slow down! We haven't figured out all the details yet,"

Sara clasped her hands together. "That sounds perfect, honestly. And yes, we *better* be there."

"Of course you will be," I assured them, my heart swelling with gratitude for having them by my side through this. "You're my friends—you're going to be my bridesmaids, after all."

Juli's eyes sparkled with joy. "I'm obsessed with all of this. Seriously, Eve, you deserve every bit of happiness."

As we caught up with each other, out of the blue, Milan came out of nowhere towering over us with a grin on his face as though he was very inquisitive. "What's so funny that you guys just can't stop laughing?" He inquired looking one of his eyebrows high up. His head swung back and forth complimenting the thrill.

Juli, instead, smirked, and, perhaps anticipating the situation, Teased him as she always did. I didn't think you would believe the surprise when you hear it, she brought more stress than necessary, "but we're not telling you why"

Milan leaned closer and crossed his arms while raising his left bulb. It was evident that his lips were shaped in an lopsided grin quite likely due to a lean of that pot bellied figure closer to the lady. "Oh yeah? You gonna leave me hanging like that babe?"

Juli glanced at him, and shared a smile, there were stars in her eyes. "Perhaps. Although perhaps you have to do it nicely…"

So ensued the furthering of the storyline whereby the two exchanged jokes as they shielded the brutalities of the world outside. Here precisely was one piece of the puzzle, and shortly after, Kean stepped inside, and instantly the mood of the room changed. Sara wasted no time in going off and telling him everything - about Christopher, the engagement, the whole story.

The moment these words left Kean's mouth, I observed that his expression underwent a transformation. There was a fraction of seconds' pause when his eyes met mine, before they dropped to the floor. There was an uncomfortable silence, I felt my insides knot a little.

"Kean? You okay?" Sara asked, noticing his shift in mood.

He forced a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Just… surprised, that's all," he muttered,

after that He wasn't saying much, but the way his eyes avoided mine made me somewhat uncomfortable and worried
