He hadn't even tried any of the delicacies of this world, and has instead relied on the system's supplies for all this while.
Without hesitation he formed a hand seal and undid the camouflage Jutsu on himself. Luckily for him, most of the passerbys weren't even paying him that much attention, otherwise appearing from out of nowhere like he did would've been mistakened for a magic trick.
*DING!*
The door at the entrance to the diner gently struck the bell bolstered above, as Sasuke walked in slowly, his phone still glued to his right ear.
His appearance caused several heads to turn towards him, but ignoring was kinda his forte, so he just walked past everyone and headed straight for the counter to order.
"Okay??"
The waitress, a young gothic yet rather beautiful chick who kept forming bubbles with the gum she loudly chewed on, gave him a quick glance, assessing him from head to toe with a raised brow.
"I'd like a cup of coffee and a side of your best pastries to go along with it.."
Sasuke went straight to the point and then looked her in the eye afterwards.
"Little bit of advice, yeah. It's 2009. The dusty looking robe won't cut it for you buddy.."
She spoke nonchalantly and left him to find a seat for himself.
"That wasn't very nice.."
He heard Mei's chuckle and couldn't help but shake his head.
"Anyway, I would've loved to turn you in myself, but unfortunately for me, I've been assigned a rather important mission in Kyoto. The higher ups are trying to get me out of the way in order to get to you.."
Despite the little bit of urgency in her words, Sasuke remained unconcerned and took a sip of his coffee, and a bite of freshly baked croissants that had just been served.
"Friendly bit of advice. I suggest you bring your little revenge play to an end for now."
She spoke while Sasuke listened and shrugged. She was right. At this point it couldn't be helped.
"Anyway. I've delivered my piece of information like a good friend ought to. Do whatever you want. I'll be expecting payment via a bank account transaction. Also you should be able to recognise my signal when the time comes right?."
She ended the call with a little laugh, leaving Sasuke to shake his head and finally focus on his food.
He ate slowly, looking around and observing the other customers , eat, laugh and converse with their friends and family while he sat alone.
"Ah I recognise that look."
Without his permission the gothic waitress suddenly walked towards him, pulled out a chair and sat by him, began munching on a croissant and dipping it in chocolate.
He raised his brow towards her, a bit speechless at the level of shamelessness.
"What? I couldn't help but notice you were alone, so being the generous person I am, I decided to keep you company. Of course, a gentleman like you wouldn't let a damsel starve on a dinner date yeah?"
Her cheeks were stuffed with food, and she even grabbed his cup of coffee from him.
"We might as well split the bill then."
His first words caused the gothic chic to pause for a moment, and after a moment of speechlessness, she laughed heartily at his remark.
"I don't mind splitting the bill yeah, but you're gonna have to tell me more about you..."
She affirmed with confidence and with this, Sasuke's mouth dried with a bit of shyness. He was still a stranger to such interactions, yet he remained stoic as usual
"So what's your story, handsome. You look like you've been through a lot.."
She asked, and took a sip of his coffee once more.
"I'm just a guy with a knack for getting into trouble and living on the edge always.."
He let out a smile after assessing her thoroughly with his cursed energy and replied.
"So you're a crazy one yeah?."
She asked, while Sasuke shrugged, neither accepting nor denying.
"We have a lot in common. I feel like we'd get along pretty well. I'm Mina"
She introduced herself swiftly and looked towards him for a response.
"Sasuke."
He replied, and returned her gaze. She was beautiful even to him, and he'd seen lots of women, at least three lives worth of beautiful women. She seemed like a breath of fresh air.
"I like that name..Sasuke...sounds original."
She smiled but retained the eye contact with him, and he didn't shy back at all.
"So where does the foreign half of your family hail from?"
He asked intelligently, and her eyes squinted for a moment in suspicion.
"Your accent sounds a bit off. Also your sense of fashion doesn't really scream Japanese.."
He cleared her doubts and she smiled and nodded in acknowledgement.
"Okay? Whew. Mr. smart guy. I'm half American, but I spent about 40 percent of my life there."
She answered with a laugh, taken aback by just how quick he had been able to notice her peculiarity. But at this point, all the customers kept casting glances to them. They were basically flirting in broad daylight and they couldn't give two shits what anyone thought.
"Why not stay there permanently? What's so different here in Japan?"
Sasuke was simply going with the flow. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to befriend more people. No man was an island after all.
"The modesty. The culture. Even the air feels fresher here.."
She spoke with a dreamy look, and Sasuke's eyes widened a bit in surprise. Perhaps only a normal human with no knowledge of Jujutsu would say that.
"What about you, Mr. smart guy? You didn't just pop out of thin air yeah?"
She walked up to the counter, picked up two glasses, served two smoothies, and brought them back to their table. An action that even infuriated some of the customers. Most of them came here more often but had yet to receive a free drink or even an extra piece of pie or croissant on their orders.
"What if I told you I did?"
"It's not too far fetched yeah? Considering we live in a world where some people run around everyday, chasing after imaginary monsters that live amongst us.."
They continued to engage in banter with one another, until Sasuke's senses picked up on something.
He didn't know what it was, but something or someone seemed to watching him from the shadows. He simply turned his gaze to the left only to find a crow perched atop a street light, with gray pupils that stared at him unceasingly.
'So that's her signal..'
He sighed to himself and then turned towards Mina with an apologetic smile.
"Oooh. I know that face.."
She also let out a smile and continued sipping on her smoothie.
"I have to go. Let's continue another time.."
Sasuke spoke and then waved his hand, summoning a bundle of cash to pay for his meal.
"Aside from being a smartass yeah, you're also a magician? What else don't I know about you ."
She smiled and accepted the cash without protesting. In her defence every one loved a free meal.
"But before you go, yeah, I want your number. I'd have given you mine, but you don't look like the type who'd call to check up so just gimme yours.."
She took out a piece of paper and a pen from the pockets on her chest and handed it over to him.
Despite the first impression he had of her, she was decent. Most importantly, she was bold, too bold even for him.
He just looked at her one last time, wrote down his number and walked out of the diner before crossing the streets to the other side.
There, the crow that was perched atop the street light soared down and landed on his shoulder.
"She could've just sent me a text message.."
*CAW!!*
Sasuke rolled his eyes, at Mei's unconventional means and crow cawed in seeming dissatisfaction before it flew away in a certain direction with a flap of its wings.
Turning around, Sasuke zoomed off, chasing after the crow with immense speed.
It led him to the top of a rather tall mansion, cawed for a few moments and then flew away unceremoniously, just as it had arrived, leaving Sasuke gobsmacked and speechless.
He waited and surveyed the area for a few moments, before he shook his head and readied himself to leave. Not until his Sharingan finally spotted a drunk figure staggering slightly along the streets.
A small smile crept up to his face and continued tracking the figure. The unidentified figure was the very reason why he had come to this area in the first place.
