Hokkaido, Japan — 5:39 AM
A girl was preparing breakfast, cooking eggs, bacon, and toast. She poured orange juice, set them on a wooden tray, and brought it up to her mom in bed. Her mother, looking tired and pale but still smiling, greeted her daughter. "Darling, you don't have to do this every day," she said.
The daughter replied, "Mom, it's okay. I don't mind. I love taking care of you as if you were my daughter." She placed the tray in front of her mother, who smiled and began eating.
The daughter then said, "Okay, Mom, I need to go to school. If you need anything, make sure to call me, okay?" The mother smiled and said, "Okay, dear. Have a great day."On her way to school, the daughter was approached by her friend Hannah.
Hannah said, "Where were you yesterday? You missed the party."
The girl replied, "I had a lot of homework."
Hannah responded, "But we didn't have any homework yesterday. And what kind of homework takes a whole day to finish?"
The girl looked nervous. Hannah added, "It's okay, don't get frustrated." The girl smiled, and together they went to school. After school, the girl returned home, opened the door, and checked on her mom. She was sleeping. The girl smiled, took the tray, and started cleaning the dishes while watching TV. When the news started, it reported on the city and how people were being taken hostage. The girl was shocked; the plate fell from her hand and smashed on the table. Her first thought was of her mom. She began tearing up, thinking about how this situation could affect her, as her mom was her only family.
