A couple was fleeing from their home, which had just been raided recently. They lived in quite possibly the most violated region in the known world. The neutral region was called that because it was just a region that none of the three heroes protected nor was it one that the three Guardians claimed as their own. It was a region where anyone could claim various parts of it at any time thus living there in the neutral region was always going to be a gamble. The various villages, towns, and cities on the human side were not just made up of the people from a single region but all of them combined as they originally fled from their home regions or their ancestors struck out on their own for various reasons. The couple was from rather large cities that boosted enough protection to defend themselves against both other humans and the robotic forces of the Guardians as well. A united front was something that no one in the neutral region expected, however. The Heroes and Guardians of the other region somehow banded together to carve up the netural regions amongst themselves in a way they have done before. The couple was forced to flee even from their normally safe city as things like this happened before and their city because its size and defense survived them in the past. However, this was different as it was not just one or two but all of them combined joining forces to take over the neutral region once and for all.
They were no longer going to allow a neutral region to exist anymore. They were going to make it so that only four regions existed instead of the existing five before this unexpectedly aligned force. The four regions were known as the neutral region with the fifth just being called the South. No one that ventured there said to ever be seen again as a result. So the couple that fled with no one to go as those from the neutral region were not welcomed in any other and were seen as intruders to be dealt with as swiftly as possible. With them having no right in foreign lands as they were not considered citizens thus the rules and laws did not apply to them. That was just in the human lands as things were worse for those who were caught in the robot lands of the Guardians. Some settlements actually capturing those from the neutral region just sell them out to robots instead of one of their own. The story about people who had been found again after being sold off or captured within robot lands was that they were roboticized and then made to do the jobs no one else wanted.
The couple did not want to deal with the possible dangers that came with either of the two normal options. They would instead take the risk of the third option fleeing to the South instead. This was the most dangerous option but banking on the hope that they could possibly find a safe haven somewhere within it. There are four cardinal directions but only three Guardians and the South for the robots. Thus there were rumors that a Southern Guardian did exist but there was no proof of it beyond how the South could not be approached by robots and no human even Heroes were unable to conquer the area at all. Going into this dangerous region they were taking this chance because the couple had a newborn baby girl and they did not want to risk raising her under the other two options. When two of the options were death and possibly one that could some cases and viewpoints be worse than death. The couple decided to go with the option that rather than their death being eventually forgone conclusion from the start. It was in a sense the option that would still be thinking it over as their death was the eventual end to all paths.
Venturing deeper and deeper into the South, the couple eventually dies from the various wounds and injuries they got from avoiding all the robots that roam around in the South. However with their last ounce of strength, they managed to get their newborn child into what they were not aware of themselves, but it was within the safe zone of the South. The place where no robots ventured into as the baby was left just within the zone to be considered off limits to all those robots roaming around outside of the zone. Also, the baby was just lucky enough that someone had come by in time to find them and take them back to the sole village that existed within the South. An isolated village was where a group of humans long ago managed to find a means to escape the wars of the humans and the constant threat of the mechas that came from all directions.
The baby girl whose parents sacrificed everything just to attempt to give their daughter a better life than what she would have had otherwise thanks to the loss of their home. She was taken in by the person that found her. Though she was raised by them she did not consider them to be her family or the two that raised her to be her parents. Instead, she viewed them more as the parental figures that raised her alongside their own child who she viewed as her closest and basically her own friend in the village.
As Page, she was named by those that took her in. She was constantly considered an outsider even though she had no memories of ever being outside the range of the village itself. She had in her mind always lived here and knew nowhere else to be her home but the village itself. Page heard stories about the supposed Southern Guardian that was said to exist within the South. There were tales and stories about how the village was able to exist merely because they were under the protection of the Southern Guardian. It was through their power and grace that they were allowed to live and thrive on this land of theirs. Page took that to heart seriously as she not only believed the story but that the Southern Guardian was real as well. She was going to prove it by searching and finding them to do so. Thus everyone would then have to acknowledge her as a true member of the village not just an outsider that they were allowing to live here instead.
