Chapter 10 - Chapter10: The Temple of Poseidon

The village chief gestured to the villagers, and immediately a dozen or so of them knelt behind him. The village chief repeated his order, but the wooden box remained motionless. The rest of the villagers also knelt down, but the situation did not change.

At this time, everyone looked back and found that only Linley was still standing, and everyone's eyes suddenly became unfriendly.

"Who are you? Why are you in our village?" the village chief questioned.

"He's here to find a boat to go to sea," the fisherman explained.

"Without the oracle, our boats cannot go to sea," the village chief said. "If you want to go to sea, come and help us obtain the oracle."

As he was about to kneel, the system in the Divine Kingdom spoke up: "If you kneel to other gods, you will lose your divinity."

"What!" Linley was startled.

"You are the God of Wine, Poseidon is your equal, kneeling to him is equivalent to giving up your divinity," the system explained.

"What should I do?" Linley looked around at the increasingly fierce eyes and felt uneasy.

Going to sea to fish has always been dangerous, and the fishermen have also developed a defiant character. They are used to fighting the waves and big fish, so naturally they are not afraid of fighting people. Seeing that Linley refused to kneel, someone immediately wanted to do something.

"You are a god, these are just mortals," the system reminded.

"But my power is still sealed!" Linley said helplessly.

"Even if it is sealed, you are still a god," the system continued, "Besides, you have already unsealed part of your power, can't you deal with these mortals?"

Linley took out his wine jar and took a sip. He felt emboldened, stood straight and said to the village chief, "The Sea God is injured and cannot give you an oracle."

The Dionysus had been seriously injured while protecting the escape of other Olympian gods, including Poseidon. I don't know if Poseidon is injured, but even if he is not, he probably won't care about this small fishing village now.

"What nonsense are you talking about!" The village chief was furious, jumped up and clenched his fist.

A few devout villagers also stood up and walked towards Linley. Seeing the situation was not good, the fisherman quickly stepped forward to stop them and said, "What do you know, you outsider, get out, get out!"

Linley knew that the fisherman was kind, he smiled slightly at him, took another sip of wine, and the smell of wine spread out. The villagers' steps suddenly became wobbly, this was the domain of the Dionysus, and it was also the projection of the Dionysus' Divine Kingdom in reality.

Although Linley's power was still small, his domain could only make people slightly drunk, but this was enough. The few villagers stumbled and collapsed.

"Devil!" The village chief cried out in fear, "Devil, you are the devil!"

He was old and his physical condition was deteriorating. The influence of drunkenness grew stronger, he was dizzy, his mouth flowing with saliva uncontrollably, and he seemed a little crazy.

"My believers, your god is here!" Linley announced loudly.

Several believers approached hesitantly, followers of Dionysus. Although the small village primarily worshipped Poseidon, there were also many followers of Dionysus. The hard work by the sea made many people seek solace in alcohol.

These believers sensed the divine power on Linley, a power different from before, yet unmistakably that of Dionysus.

"Is it really you?" The believers still had some doubts.

"Of course it's me." Linley handed them the wine jar in his hand, "Come, let's have a good drink."

The believers took a sip, immediately feeling a fiery sensation throughout their bodies. They had never tasted such strong wine before, they immediately confirmed that it was indeed Dionysus.

They all gathered around and shouted: "This is Dionysus! Step back!"

The village chief hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward and said, "Dionysus shouldn't look like you, you are clearly a devil."

Although the village chief's tone was much milder, he still accused Linley of being a devil. If accused of being a devil, one would be better off possessing demonic power, lest they face the consequences of physical assault.

"Dionysus is dead." Linley explained, "He was killed by a demon from the south, I just took over."

"What..." The village chief was incredulous.

"I suspect Poseidon may be injured and is currently unaccounted for." Linley continued.

"I don't believe it, how is that possible!" The village chief was in a panic.

Other believers of Poseidon also shouted: "We don't believe it! You're lying, you're a devil!"

"It's easy to verify whether I am a devil. Roman soldiers will come to force you to convert to the new faith soon." Linley said, "If you refuse, they will kill you all."

"What..." The villagers were all stunned.

Although the fishermen had to go out to sea to trade, they were not isolated from information. They had heard of the new faith and knew that it was prevalent in Rome, but they did not expect that it would forbid the worship of the Olympian gods and demand conversion.

Greek history was not without fights between the gods, the worship of Athena in Athens was a clear example. When Athens was strong, the worship of Athena spread far and wide; when Athens declined, the worship of Athena also shrank.

However, even when Athens was at its strongest, it never banned other faiths. This small fishing village had always worshipped the sea god Poseidon, even when Athens dominated the entire Greek peninsula and became almost the center of the world.

"Since you are believers of Poseidon, then leave with me, you can't survive here." Linley said.

"But..." The village chief obviously couldn't easily take the whole village away from their home.

At this time, Odysseus ran over and shouted, "Dionysus, a group of Roman soldiers is coming."

"How many people?" Linley asked.

"About twenty." Odysseus replied.

"That's perfect." Linley said, "You can take this opportunity to find out if these Roman soldiers will force you to abandon your original faith and convert to the new faith."

"Of course I will ask." The village chief said.

"Village chief." A villager next to him whispered, "This is Odysseus, the high priest of Dionysus in Athens, I met him when I went to the city before."

The village chief, increasingly apprehensive, decided to follow Linley's suggestion and inquire about the situation.

"I'll go see those Romans." The village chief said.

"No, wait a minute." Linley said, "We need to prepare first."
