Chapter 15 - Chapter15: The Grape Slingshot

With a ding, the system's second task was completed.

Linley entered the divine realm and found a roulette wheel in the cottage again. He pressed the button forcefully, and the pointer spun and stopped on a picture of a bow.

"Congratulations, you have obtained the grape slingshot." The system's voice sounded.

"Slingshot?" Linley asked in confusion, "Didn't I choose the bow?"

"A slingshot is also a type of bow," the system explained, "besides, would you be able to use a real bow and arrow?"

Linley was speechless. He couldn't use a bow and arrow, but he was familiar with a slingshot. In an instant, a slingshot and a small bag of projectiles appeared in his hand. The slingshot was made of tough old grapevine, the elastic was grape tendrils, and the projectiles were grape fruits.

"What kind of damage can this do?" Linley picked up a projectile and examined it carefully, finding that it was indeed an ordinary grape. These grapes were not hard, the skin was delicate, and it seemed that they would burst and spray juice with a slight squeeze.

"These grapes contain a high concentration of wine, and once they hit the enemy, the skin will burst, forming sharp jets, injecting wine into the enemy's body, causing serious intoxication." The system explained.

"Just a drunken effect?" Linley seemed a little disappointed.

"The intoxicating effect is very powerful," the system continued, "If you need to kill the enemy directly, you can use other projectiles, such as the ruby you own."

Ruby? Linley then remembered that he did have such a gem, so he took it out and asked, "Is this it?"

This ruby was originally embedded in the Poseidon statue in the fishing village. Later, the statue was beheaded by the Roman centurion, and the ruby was also taken by him. After Bavaria defeated the centurion, the village chief gave the ruby to Linley.

"That's right, if you use this ruby as a projectile, it can trigger a powerful explosion, causing serious fire damage." The system explained.

How powerful is it, how serious is the fire damage? The system didn't provide specific data. There is only one ruby, but there are many grape projectiles.

Linley wanted to try the slingshot, but as soon as he picked it up, he felt dizzy and almost couldn't stand. Bavaria rushed in and caught Linley before he fell. When boarding the ship, Linley stored Bavaria in the divine realm to save water and food.

"Thank you." Linley thanked.

"It is my duty." Bavaria answered.

Linley sat down and asked the system, "What's going on? Am I too low level to use the slingshot?"

If that's the case, then what's the point of drawing the slingshot?

"It's not like that," the system explained, "You consumed too much divine power when you cultivated grape seedlings just now, which caused your body to overdraw and need rest. You cannot use divine power again for the next few days. You must be cautious when using divine power in the future to avoid excessive use, otherwise it will damage your body and shorten your lifespan."

"Aren't gods immortal?" Linley asked quickly.

"Of course not, the lifespan of a god is not infinite. Although divine power is strong, the body will still age, and divine power will gradually lose over time. Eventually, it will face life, old age, sickness and death like ordinary people," the system explained, "To avoid death, you must constantly strengthen your divine power."

Linley asked, "How long can I live?"

The system replied, "About three hundred to four hundred years.

Hearing this answer, Linley breathed a sigh of relief. At least he would live several times longer than an ordinary person. The system continued, "This is only if you don't get injured. If you do, your lifespan will be shortened. Especially these days, you can't use your divine power. Be careful, otherwise I will die with you."

Linley returned to the real world from his divine realm. His followers were still celebrating. Seeing Linley open his eyes, they cheered again with joy.

Linley nodded and said, "I need to rest for a while." As soon as he finished speaking, he could no longer hold on and sat down cross-legged, falling into a deep sleep.

He didn't know how long it had been when he finally woke up. He found Bavaria guarding him with a giant sword. The cave looked completely different. The floor was clean and tidy, and it was equipped with all the necessities of life. A carpet was laid in front of Linley, with fish and shells placed on it as offerings.

The grapevine had grown, the fruits were the size of fingers, with a faint red color, and they seemed to be ready to eat.

"How long have I been asleep?" Linley asked in confusion, worried that he might have been asleep for months. The consequences of overdrafting his divine power were so serious.

Bavaria replied, "You've been asleep for five days."

"Only five days?" Linley breathed a sigh of relief. That wasn't too long.

He stood up and stretched, feeling no discomfort. His divine power had also recovered, everything was flourishing. He decided to be more cautious in the future and stop overdrafting his divine power.

Walking over to a grapevine, Linley picked a grape and tasted it. He found it to be sweet and sour, but the sourness was a bit more pronounced. He injected some divine power into it, and several bunches of grapes quickly ripened.

He tasted another one. The grape skin broke, and sweet juice flowed out. It was too sweet, the flesh melted in his mouth, leaving no residue.

Bavaria swallowed his saliva. Linley picked a bunch and handed it to him, "Try it."

"Yes!" Bavaria carefully picked one and took a bite, exclaiming, "It's so delicious! So sweet! It's sweeter than anything I've ever eaten, even sweeter than the sweetest honey!"

These Dionysus grapes were indeed sweeter than honey. Honey was rare and expensive, while grapes were abundant. If Dionysus grapes could be promoted, they would definitely be a hit.

In this era, people lacked sweeteners. They had to rely on honey or fruit if they wanted to eat something sweet. Honey was scarce and fruit wasn't sweet enough. Dionysus grapes were too sweet for Linley, but to others, they were a delicacy.

"Wait," Linley suddenly felt something was wrong, "You've eaten grapes in your divine realm, haven't you?"

"No, although there are many kinds of grapes in divine realm, none are as sweet as this one." Bavaria replied.
