Chapter 16 - Chapter16: The Mutated Dionysus Grapes

These grapes were obviously from the Dionysus divine realm, even their name is called Dionysus Grapes. "The Dionysus Grapes have mutated due to the infusion of your divine power, which is also the reason why your divine power is severely depleted." The system explained.

Linley looked at the Dionysus Grapes, feeling very confused: Is this a completely new grape variety? The only advantage of these grapes after ripening is their high sugar content. Before they are fully ripe, they are even more delicious, with a balanced sweetness and sourness, and a rich fruity aroma.

Although the sugar content of these grapes reaches 50%, it is not considered particularly high. Under modern technology cultivation, some dried grapes can even reach 70% sugar content, almost like a piece of candy.

At this time, Dave and Odysseus entered the room. Seeing Linley, they were overjoyed. They immediately knelt down to salute, "Dionysus, you are finally awake."

"I just took a short rest." Linley picked off two clusters of ripe grapes, "This is for you."

"Thank you, Dionysus!" The two were overjoyed. They took the grapes, ate them, and tears of happiness flowed down their faces.

Linley picked off another three clusters of grapes and handed them to Bavaria, "Give these grapes to the islanders."

"Yes!" Bavaria took the grapes and walked out.

Unfortunately, the grapevine is not big yet, there are only a few clusters of grapes on it. There are dozens of believers on the island, and each person will likely only get one or two grapes. Linley asked Odysseus, "How have things been going these past few days?"

"We dismantled a few damaged ships and used the wood to build a pier. We also cleared a few empty fields on the island and built houses..." Odysseus said.

"What did you build the houses with?" Linley asked.

"The wood left over from building the pier and the goat skins we got." Odysseus said.

The wood from the fishing boats was not very good, and the goat skins were hardly building materials. What kind of houses could they possibly build with these?

"I'll go take a look." Linley said.

The weather outside was pleasant, clear skies and sunshine. The places directly exposed to sunlight were very hot, but the shaded areas were still cool. This is the advantage of the Mediterranean climate, it's not too cold and not too hot.

The newly built houses are all in the cracks of the rocks, making the most of the mountain walls. The houses are built with as little wood and goat skin as possible, so the interior space is small and can only barely shelter from wind and rain, but there is no other way.

Even these houses, the number is not enough. There are two groups of people who came to the island, one group of priests and apprentices brought by Linley from the Athenian temple, and the other group of fishermen from the fishing village. The two groups add up to nearly a hundred people, but there are only about a dozen houses. There is no way to fit so many people.

The rest of the people could only go to live in caves. Grapevines are everywhere, so people can't even turn over in their sleep. If they do, they'll step on the grapevines. These are the divine trees planted by Dionysus himself, so what if they crush them?

The believers who saw Linley all saluted. Linley nodded to them and walked forward. They have carved roads into the rocks, but it is still difficult to walk. Fortunately, Linley's body is strong, and he is as comfortable on the rocks as walking on flat ground.

A rudimentary port had been built at the landing site, with several fishing boats moored at the shore and others busy fishing in the sea not far away. Each cast of the nets yielded a bountiful catch. Soon, a fishing boat returned full of fish, its deck piled high with the catch, large, plump fish filling their vision.

Linley rarely ate seafood before, and he could only recognize a few sea bass and some possible sea bream, the rest he didn't recognize at all. These fish were all different shapes, making him wonder if they were edible.

A fisherman respectfully offered a large sea bass, Linley took the fish, Odysseus immediately rushed to stop him: "No! How can you eat sea bass?" "Sea bass is also a good food." Linley responded calmly.

"We have enough mountain goat meat." Odysseus said, rubbing his hands together.

"From now on, don't discriminate against people who eat fish and fishermen." Linley said firmly.

Hearing this, the fishermen knelt down and expressed their gratitude. In this era, fish were considered food for the lower class in Greek city-states, while pigs, cows and sheep were the choice for the upper class. Poultry such as chicken, duck and goose, although of lower status, were still superior to fish.

Fishers, therefore, had a low status. In Sparta, all citizens were forbidden to fish, even the helots were no exception, only the lowest perioeci were allowed to fish.

The priests and apprentices who came with Linley, although they didn't say it, still held prejudices against the fishermen. The fishermen were used to this discrimination, thinking it was natural and never thought of resisting.

As Dionysus, Linley shouldn't eat fish, there were mountain goats on the island, he should have chosen mountain goat meat. However, Linley took the initiative to break the taboo of eating fish, allowing fishermen to get along with others as equals, a truly benevolent deity.

Listening to the praises, Linley felt his body become stronger, and his divine power also increased.

"Your believers' faith in you has deepened, your experience points have increased by fifty points." The system prompted.

Linley entered the divine realm to check, and found that he was now level two, and only fifty experience points were needed to level up. He remembered that he also needed one hundred experience points to level up from level one to level two.

"How is this upgrade experience value calculated?" Linley asked.

"Every time you level up, the experience points will reset to zero, and then you will need one hundred experience points to level up again." The system explained, "However, as your level increases, gaining experience points will become increasingly difficult."

That's good, the experience needed to level up is always one hundred points, regardless of your level. Linley switched back to reality, his eyes fixed on the fishing boats in the distance, suddenly he noticed a dark shape shifting near the boat.

"What is that?" Linley asked.

"What?" Everyone looked in the direction Linley was looking, but they saw nothing.

"There's a dark shape over there, can't you see?" Linley continued.

"We can't see anything, it's too far away." Odysseus said.

"I didn't see it either." Dave said.

Linley's eyesight was much sharper than theirs, he could clearly see the dark shape.

At this time, the dark shape surfaced, revealing its iconic triangular fins, a huge shark! It was rapidly approaching the fishing boat, people on the shore saw it and screamed, trying to warn the people on the boat. However, the distance was too far, and the sound couldn't reach them.

This shark was very large, even bigger than the fishing boat, Linley quickly took out his slingshot, picked up a grape bullet, and aimed at the shark and shot.
