Nell, laying half-asleep on the hospital bed, looks around yet again. The doctors seem to have left. Day by day, he regains his energy. With nothing to do, he thinks and thinks, just like he did before his eternity was shattered. He wants to go back. With everything in his power, he wants to go back.
________________________________________________________________________________My mind, blurry and slow, has only one thought. Escape. I suddenly rip off the catheter, take every bit of machinery off of my upper body. I rip the stickers off of my chest yet no pain is felt. I sit up in my bed almost instantaneously, arm bleeding from the needle that I yanked out. My goal was clear and achievable. I muster up the energy I've gained throughout the days of rest, and sprint straight down the hall, past every doctor. Strings attached to my leg slow me down, but not enough to stop me. Pushing doctors out the way, running straight to whatever exit I could possibly find. The equipment stuck to my leg seem like chains, pulling me back down to the place I was just at. Keeping me from eternity. Running through endless hallways, when finally, I spot the exit. My eyes widen as I stumble over myself trying to reach the door. The light of the world I once loved shown into my eyes. The fragments of my shattered crystal stared back at me as if beckoning me back to it. I rushed over and tried putting it back together frantically. Piece by piece, the crystals in my hand disintegrated into dust. I yelled out into the sky. "God of Time! Put me back immediately. I haven't even gotten close to you. You freed me. How could you do this to me? I'm begging you." My fist is clenched and a single tear is forming in my eye. My words slowly shifted from anger to inferiority. The onlookers believed I was insane. Maybe I was. It was not my fault though. In my distressed state, I looked around. I yelled out at everybody I saw. "What the hell are you looking at? None of this is my fault." My whole body was quivering as I screamed aimlessly. "I did not wish for this!" I was quickly restrained by the hospital staff as they brought me back to the place I so desperately tried to escape. I was restrained to the bed until I was able to be discharged. Once I was allowed to move around, I went to the bathroom, and looked in the mirror for the first time. I saw myself. I took off the rubber band from my hair and put it in my pocket. My dark brown hair dropped down to the middle of my neck. My complexion was tan due to the sunlight I absorbed while in the crystal. My eyes were the color gold. Were they always this color? I was not sure. I wasn't sure about anything. My eyes had dark circles under them despite my resting for a week. I saw a scar from getting scraped by the crystal on my arm that I had never noticed before. I walked out of the hospital and begrudgingly signed the sheet to be discharged. I dragged by feet across the pavement. I walked past the houses and shops. I began to feel a feeling I hadn't felt in forever. Hunger. 'How the fuck am I supposed to get food?' I thought that as I stared at the shops. My pockets were empty and I had zero money whatsoever. However, I had a plan. I shuffled over to a shopkeeper who was selling bread. "Hey." The shopkeeper looked a little confused as I said that to him. "Uhm... Hello? Are you here to buy anything?" "Buy? No, not at all. I'm with the king. I'm here to get food for his majesty." "No the hell you aren't. We have no king. Get out of here before I call the guards." "I..."My plan failed miserably. I walked away from the stall with my pride obliterated. 'No king? What the hell is this place?' My thoughts kept on running, but the problem at hand still wasn't fixed. I guess I had no choice but to do it. I waited for around 3 hours, hiding and watching until the stall owner left. The moment I saw him turn his back and walk away, I rushed over to the bread and took it. I scurried away like a fucking rat. I felt like one too. My ego was shattered yet again, but I had to do what I had to do. I ran back to where I was hiding previously. While I was running, I bumped into somebody. I looked into his eyes. I heard one thing before my mind went blank. "Guards!"
