Chapter 6 - Killed In Action

The walk to the camp was long and hard as Dionysus had to make his way up the large mountain that he had plummeted down with his father. Even though it was difficult for Dionysus with his slow and excruciatingly painful limp, he wasn't going to stop to rest, he pushed and pushed up the mountain for days. He made it a few kilometers from the battlefield where a few days ago he had fallen, he could see the aftermath from his vantage point, it was horrendous, hundreds of Greeks lay dead, he could not believe it. Dionysus began descending towards the battlefield to make his way to the camp; he had a few kilometers to go before he got there.

When he arrived at the outskirts of the camp he heard chattering, he got to a point where he could look into the camp without being seen. What he saw was not Athenian soldiers but instead thieves, they were looting things left behind. Dionysus was not going to stand by and watch important documents and other valuables be taken to be sold to whomever. He put on his helmet, unsheathed his fathers xiphos, and grabbed his shield and slowly attacked, he parried and bashed, he slashed and stabbed. Dionysus beat them all and began grabbing what was taken, one of the things he saw was an order from another general. The message read "General Demeter, take your men and meet me at the pass, we're due for battle against the Spartans and we're outnumbered by the brutes. Please get here as fast as you can. General Adonis''. Dionysus knew of one pass that was close enough for this to make it here on time, so he began walking once more.

This walk was not nearly as long as his last one, but it still wasn't short. Dionysus walked to this pass at the fastest pace he could manage. He walked and walked. Eventually getting to a point where he needed to take a break and get some much needed rest. Once he awoke he continued his walk and was traveling much faster than the day before. He pressed forward with few worries to what was around him. Dionysus had gotten pretty far with the pace he had but he knew he wouldn't get there on time unless he walked through the night, which was extremely dangerous in the area he was in but he didn't have a choice if he wanted to get to the battle and fight. So he pushed on and kept a very close eye on his surroundings, he didn't want to come this far just to get mauled or attacked. Dionysus walked and walked only stopping to use the bathroom or drink the little water he had, he wasn't going to stop until he made it to the fight.

The next day the sun broke the horizon and he could see the pass, Dionysus hoped that the battle had not passed, he pushed and pushed, eventually the tired warrior could hear the clash of weapons and shields, he hurried. Dionysus made it to the battle just in time to fight. He got on the battlefield and saw the Spartan general he decided on what to do. After slashing and stabbing, bashing and smashing, Dionysus made it to the general and with a swift and heartless move he slipped under the swing of his sword got behind the general and stabbed his fathers xiphos between the Spartans helmet and backplate, severing the general's spine and nearly decapitating him, in an instant when the Spartan soldiers saw what happened and realized their commander was gone they panicked and fled the battlefield causing so many unwanted casualties to themselves. Dionysus stood over the lifeless Spartan. Admiring the design on the breastplate as well as the beautifully crafted crest on the helm. He was not sure of what to do. After a few seconds he grabbed the general, and instead of putting the armor on a pike he paid a traveler to send the armor to the generals family, he followed that by burying the general in a respectful way showing remorse and honor to the man.
