Chapter 29 - Vulnerable

"Aunt Vera, please take Serena back home. She is tired."

Serena's eyes snapped open when she heard her name called out and she looked up, disporiented. It took her a moment to realise that she'd fallen asleep on Aiden's shoulder as they'd waited through the night for grandma for grandma's condition to improve.

Slowly, she straightened up, looked around the private waiting room and realized that the others had left as well, leaving only her, Aiden and Aunt Vera in the room.

"I'm fine," she protested softly, even as she rubbed the stiffness from her neck. "I want to wait until Grandmother wakes up."

"Serena, you're still recovering. If you stay, she'll only worry more when she wakes up and sees you tired. It's better for you to rest at home."
