Chapter 10 - The Giant Snake

"Is this how I die again" tears foamed in his eyes.

Overjoyed the hunger that plagued it constantly about to be decreased if not outright sated the snake could taste the delicious aroma from 30 meters away in between trees, at first it was only one prey that appeared it was small, but the others would do in a bit anyway. Then another stronger one appeared at the back of the first trying to hide pointlessly in plain view and they were both so tiny swallowing them whole would be easy, its slither hastened the closer it got to the prey the more its insatiable hunger grew the more it got lost under the feeding frenzy ravaging the snake's mind until it could no longer wait to open large fanged jaws it went for the kill.

Did it not get them? The snake agitated finding its fangs empty of gnashed bones and meat.

Golden eyes shone in the darkness wait weren't they yellow eyes? Michael blinked a few times the shock wave resulting from the impact threw him off balance onto the grassy field the other kid was nowhere to be seen hopefully not crushed under the snake's body. Michael stared up at it from up close it curled into several coils of black glinting scales interwoven into each other wriggling as the snake regained its balance. "15 or 18 meters at least" Michael estimated its length based on how long its neck and head loomed up in the darkness along with the remainder of the curves on the ground.

A familiar feeling took over his mind it was something he experienced before yet he could quite get it, panting he scrambled back over the ground his nail digging into the soft earth moisture covering the entirety of his forehead he wanted to shout for help but between the distance and party no one would hear him and even if they did how could anyone do against such a beast 'It could buy me enough time to get away not that I would get very far by the way its staring at me' Michael discarded the thought the idea of using others as fodder didn't sit well despite not knowing anyone of them, he imagined the terror struck faces of Liam and Alyssa 'They are probably looking for me by now'

Flying grass and rocks Michael saw them as the snakes' fangs dug into the ground once again just centimeters away from where he fell. He rolled backwards feet in the air head going down under, had it not been the unusually soft earth and grassy sloped plain… Michael couldn't think about that he felt dizzy everything spun around him his suit jacket unbuttoned the button itself missing dirt smudged on several parts of his shirt he pushed himself up head bobbing from nausea piling in throat "I I have to get away, where is she? The adults will help us" he muttered delirious.

The creature threw its head back and forth spitting out the taste of earthiness, agitated it should have eaten the small golden prey by now yet this one for some reason seemed it elude it each time it strikes. It failed to feel its focus declining rapidly as its mind lost itself to hunger however after banging its head twice some clarity emerged and resolved to change tactics.

Its angry gaze kept focus on Michael while bringing its head down the length of it almost surpassing him all that was needed was one on point swipe and he would be history Michael discovered the loud drums were actually his heartbeats pumping against his entire being against the shirt he wore now stuck to him like a second skin perspiration outlining his visage.

To his surprise, the snake started to uncoil its large body and head, moving anti-clockwise while keeping its insidious large black specked yellow gaze on Michael, who stood still barely breathing. Despite the snake's large body barely a sound came as it grazed the field slowly curling around Michael dispersing any idea of an escape route it was preparing for its final attack and without a doubt the prey could not escape its deathly grip their game of tag was over.

"Its curling around me trapping me, maybe if I can jump over' that idea died down on its own as even the snake's width was larger than him he doubted it would just let him go over "No!" he shouted "no no No! I wont die ever again" he felt his consciousness sleep back into that memory where he died in his past life. He was standing near the well except this time there was no house or anyone else in sight the ground just went endlessly into the horizon. He wore strange clothes and had a different body "What happened?" his voice was so much deeper "I see your back so soon." A childish voice came from behind him Michael turned seeing a boy sitting on the well dangling his feet over the deep chasm into the well "Well I suppose you were always weak" he said mockingly he grinned sadistically "Lucky for you" he stood over the edge in front of Michael 'How did he…' Michael blinked the boy stood just beside him he looked up at him

"I don't want you to die, at least not yet." He laughed

The snake curled tightly squeezing it muscles enclosing Michael in between its hard scales pressing against prey, except it could still feel a gap where the prey was supposed to be it tried squeezing itself again yet the gap remained perplexed it uncoiled slowly preparing to swallow instantly that was the chance Michael needed to just out. He landed on the snake breathing heavily a shin of golden light covering his skin all over irises glowing faintly in the same color "I wont die in your hands ever again he shouted at the snake.

Michael swallowed hard parched it was both draining and hot tired each layer of clothing on him heavy especially the suit's jacket it weighed him down peeling it off violently he threw it away. "I will not let you."

'Come we can do this!' he thought angrily "Concentrate in my fist" he willed whatever power residing in him the shin of light faded over his body focusing his hand it glowed brighter, he shouted manically bringing down his fist against the snake's hard scales Surprisingly something happened a small line fissure just enough to give Michael hope.

"No I am not going to die here!" he repeated over then again hitting random scales as fast and hard as he could, snot and tears flying with each up and down "No No!" he screamed the light emanating in his fist dimming until only a small sheen of light left itself disappearing back into Michael's skin. Though not believing it the sudden burst of power he'd gotten was gone yet only a small vertical line fissure remained on the snake 'Not even a dent?' Michael cried his voice hoarse and with the power high falling weaker 'Why? Why?" he despaired 'Why do I have to live again only to die so soon' sweat, snot, and tears mixed into one ran down his face

The Snake until that moment was stunned it hadn't expected the prey to be alive after being quashed in it unlike most prey did much less for it to jump up on to it. the little thing made weird noises dripping wet though no water could be seen for miles, it mattered not.

The snake dragged itself scrapping the ground beneath it free of greenery, Michael let himself roll over falling to the side his right temple bled probably hurt while rolling down. Out of options he lay there to be devoured it was the end for him 'Hopefully the little girl escaped maybe she even called for help.' Though he doubted as someone would have appeared if that were the case 'she's probably passed out somewhere close, she was desert!' Michael smiled hysterically imagining her face plastered on a ball of ice cream screaming " Please don't eat me Mr. Snake!" before being swallowed whole by the giant snake.

Crack! Crack! A web of cracks spread all over the snake's side where Michael hit it just before the cracks spread all over a substantial part of the midsection. Golden light seeped through them muddled by gold-ish black blood the snake emitted a bone-chilling hiss that seemed to fill the air around it with dread. Michael though delirious saw it too gaining lucidity for a moment a weird smell wafted of his pants his bowels had apparently decided to release without warning, it didn't matter to him for something else arose inside of him as the snake thrashed worryingly close to him a bit closer and he would be done for.

He scrambled to stand his head clearing "I feel hungry" he muttered "But not like eating hungry." He stared at the golden light that seeped more as cracks kept expanding, small pools of black blood specked golden on the ground "it's like its calling to me" Michael went closer risking being turned into mush by the thick large body, something inside him was pulling "is it Celestial Energy?" he uttered confused as to how a snake could possess it, much of memories from his past life were still unavailable to him but he knew one thing for sure normal life forms don't have the capability to process this power be it humans or snakes.

The snake was now covered almost entirely in golden light bleeding from inside it its movement decreasing momentum and eventually it stopped completely it let out a weak hiss intense golden light mixed in black goo and scales and other bits exploded into the night.

Michael felt himself rise in the air the wave of bits slamming at him point blank, however instead of shredding him the light coalesced around him outlining his body golden shinning Alight the dark woods of the Bailon estate.
