Chapter 47 - How to Earn Money(3)

Dustin(pov)

I reached my house and started to collect stuff for the invention of the century. Even if I didn't create anything but just copied the entire idea from my old world I thought it was fine.

It's not like I can give credit to the maker. In fact, the maker is already dead in my old world and I can't say the idea was from my previous life.

If I say something like this I would probably burned at a stake.

Of course that is only in extreme cases. People would think I am speaking nonsense in most cases and trying to gain attraction by doing stupid stunts.

I took a big bag from the old man's room to stuff things in it, I first put packets of sugar in the bag, then a big wooden spoon and after that a clay pot.

I finally picked up a large metal bowl from the kitchen and put it in the bag.

The bag had grown heavy but I could carry it easily, In fact, I only used one hand to carry it.

It would have made my work easier if there was a thermometer but I had to make with what I have.

I started to walk towards the forest for the last ingredient I needed for the job.

I finally reached the place. I needed an absorbent material so I decided at last cotton as the best choice.

There was a beautiful cotton field in front of my eyes.

Cotton plants offer a unique and breath-holding beauty, I was lucky that this view was not desecrated by humans. At least the villager's fear of the forest contributed to something substantial.

Their delicate, hibiscus-like flowers, often in shades of white or cream, are a sight to behold, especially when they open in the morning, revealing their soft petals and bright yellow centres.

As the flowers fade, they are replaced by the iconic cotton bolls. These fluffy, white balls are a symbol of purity and innocence. When the bolls mature, they burst open, revealing the soft, fluffy fibres that I will use.

The contrast between the delicate flowers and the robust, resilient plants is a testament to the wild beauty of nature.

Cotton fields can be a soul-stirring sight, especially when they are in full bloom. The sea of white flowers, interspersed with the green leaves, creates a stunning visual spectacle.

I came in front of the cotton plants and started to pick up the fully ripened cotton.

My work was done after 30-35 minutes of tough work.

I picked the cotton and put it in the bag.

I could have asked someone in the village for the cotton but the old man was busy doing his duty as the village chief while I wanted to keep it a surprise for Peter.

I had already asked Jack for a lot of stuff so I couldn't ask for more while Adrian was someone I had an awkward relationship with for now.

I reached home very quickly as I was running at full throttle.

Now the only thing I had to do was wait for Jack to come and bring the Hand-cranked spindle.

The idea for it came when Peter offered me candy.

Whether it be the middle class in the capital or poor people everyone liked something to satisfy the craving for sweets.

The sweets in the empire were generally expensive and not something you could eat daily if you were not a noble or a rich person.

Of course, cheap candy like the one Peter gave me was still there but they were not only harmful but also not created in a clean environment.

Most of all even these were not cheap for people like us who are the bottom strung of society.

I needed something that was easy to make, cheap in production and most of all easy to use.

If it was a world without any fantasy stuff I would have started an industrial revolution but I don't have time for stuff like this in this Pre-apocalyptic world.

I wanted to make a cotton candy machine.

It was the best option I could come up with all the lack of time and money.

Cotton candy, also known as candy floss or fairy floss is loved by people all around the Earth.

I especially had many childhood memories associated with it.

I remember how my sister stole my cotton candy and when I started to cry she would give me double the cotton candy she stole from me, she probably did it as she liked to tease the kid me.

I still remember the first time I tasted cotton candy, it tasted sweet and caramelly, and most of all I loved the way it melted on the tongue.

Cotton candy, also known as "Fairy Floss" at the time, was invented in 1897 by dentist William Morrison and confectioner John C. Wharton.

They created a machine that spun heated sugar through microscopic holes to create a light, floss-like texture, it became so popular that they sold 68,655 boxes for 25¢ each over six months.

The treat was so popular that a candy store bought the machine and started selling cotton candy the following year.

Of course, the origin of cotton candy might date to a much earlier time period. During the 1400s Italian cooks would melt sugar with a fork and split it into strands, which they would then drape over objects as decorations. Due to the exorbitant expense of sugar and labour, this delight was only available to the wealthy.

I don't have to think how marketable and profitable it will be in the middle class of this world when I already have the live case of my old world.

Of course, it is impossible to monetise it in this world.

Competitors would easily steal the idea and use it. You can't stop it as copyright and piracy a huge issues even in the digital era much less in this world where the passing of information can't be monitored as much on Earth.
