The next day, I was dressed up to leave for the office when I bumped into Skyler by the staircase. "Be careful, or else you will hurt yourself," he said. "Thank you," I responded. He seemed different. He was not smiling, nor was he even looking at me. "Is he avoiding me?" I thought to myself.
"Are you following me to the office today too?" he asked.
"Yes," I replied.
"Don't. I can handle things pretty well, so there's no need for you to follow me," he said and left.
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked myself.
After a few hours, Skyler came back home and went to the guest room without saying a word to me. Had something happened to him?
Night came, but Skyler was still in the guest room. "Is he sick?" I wondered. I finally decided to check on him.
I went to his room, but it was locked from the inside. I knocked on the door, but there was no response.
"Skyler, is something wrong?" I asked. Still, there was no response. So I banged on the door instead. After several minutes, he finally opened the door.
I entered the room and locked the door behind me. "What's wrong? Did something happen?" I asked as I saw him sitting on the bed with his face in his hands.
"I'm fine, you can leave," he said.
I knelt in front of him and tried to see his face, but his hands were covering it. "Are your eyes glowing again?" I asked.
"It's not as scary as it looks, you know. Moreover, my favorite color is blue," I said.
"You shouldn't have come here," he mumbled.
"What did you say?" I asked, moving closer to him.
He noticed and removed his hands from his face, revealing his glowing red eyes. I moved away in shock. "Why? You look..." I couldn't finish my sentence. My heart was racing, and my hands covered my mouth.
"You wanted to know who I am, right?" he said as he moved closer to me.
"No, I was just .."
"I'm a vampire, Uresa," he smirked.
"Hun..."
He placed his hand on my cheek, "I didn't hate humans because I wanted to, but I had to. They just make me wanna suck that damn blood that runs through their veins," he said, now touching my neck.
"You know, anytime I look at a human, only one thing comes to mind..." He was now touching my eyes down to my neck and back up.
"Blood," he smiled.
"But whenever I look at you, I don't think of blood. I wonder why?" He chuckled.
"You..." I was about to speak when he suddenly placed his hands on my lips.
"Hush!" He said.
"Tonight is a full moon. It's hard for me to suppress my thirst for human blood on days like this, hmmm," he looked at the full moon outside the window and then at me.
"You should go to bed now, it's getting late," he removed his hands from my face and stood up. His eyes looked unsettled, and he was staggering, then he suddenly fell on the bed and shut his eyes.
I suddenly felt like I could breathe again. I stood up from the floor and was about to leave the room when I noticed a small bottle on the floor. It was empty. I picked it up to check what was written on it.
"Sleeping Pills!"
The bottle looked like it was new. "Is that the reason why he fell on the bed? Did he take the whole pill in one go?" I gasped.
He did look like he was sleeping and I clearly remembered him telling me he didn't sleep at night but in the morning.
"Is it because he couldn't control the thirst for blood that overwhelmed him tonight?". I looked at him again and then sighed.
"I can't leave him all alone," I said to myself. "I should stay with him" I concluded.
Finally, it was another day, I was still sleeping when I noticed someone's hand on me, the person was carefully grazing his fingers down from my cheek to my neck and then back again.
I opened my eyes immediately only for me to see that it was Skyler.
"Again! What's it this time" I itched my eyes because I was still sleepy. I looked at him since he was not responding only for me to see that his eyes were red and he seemed different. The way he looked at me too was also different.
"Are you okay?" I said but he did not answer, he just kept giving me that amused look.
"You must be tired," I said.
"I'm thirsty," he said in a faint voice as he touched my neck again.
"Stop it, you better come out of it"
He suddenly grabbed my neck and was strangling me.
"Skyler, I .... Can't breathe" I said.
But he didn't seem to care or maybe he was not even listening to me.
I suddenly heard a sharp knock on the door and I guess that he must have heard it too because he immediately let go of my neck. I quickly used that to open the door.
"Is everything ok, are you guys arguing?" My mother-in-law.
I wanted to talk there and then that the monster inside wants to kill me or maybe suck my blood instead.
But then I remember what he said last night. He could have sucked my blood last night but he didn't he chose to drug himself instead.
"Uresa, can you hear me?" My mother-in-law said.
"Hun, yes Mom. Everything is fine, I and my husband just want to have some time together" I said without even thinking.
She smiled, "Fine then, I'll tell the rest of the family not to disturb you," she said and left.
I entered the room back and locked the door from behind, "How bad can a vampire be?" I said.
