I turned to face Skyler, who was still sitting on the bed, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. "You're still thirsty, aren't you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He nodded slowly, his gaze never leaving mine. "I'm trying to control it, but it's getting harder," he said, his voice low and husky.
I took a step closer to him, my heart racing with a mix of fear and curiosity. "Why didn't you drink my blood last night?" I asked, remembering his words from the previous night.
Skyler's eyes seemed to cloud over, and he looked away, his jaw clenched. "I don't know," he muttered. "I just couldn't bring myself to do it."
I took another step closer, my mind racing with questions. "What's happening to you, Skyler? You're not like other vampires, are you?"
He looked up at me, his eyes flashing with a hint of anger. "I don't know what you're talking about," he growled.
But I knew I had hit a nerve. There was something different about Skyler, something that set him apart from the monsters of legend.
Suddenly, he stood up, his movements swift and fluid. "I need to get out of here," he said, his voice tight with tension. "I need to find something to... distract me."
I nodded, understanding. "I'll come with you," I said, despite the fear that was still lingering inside me.
Skyler's eyes narrowed, but he didn't argue. Instead, he turned and walked out of the room, leaving me to follow him into the unknown.
I followed Skyler out of the house, into the night. We walked in silence, the only sound being the crunch of gravel beneath our feet. I couldn't help but wonder where we were going, or what Skyler was searching for.
As we walked, the trees seemed to grow taller, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground. I shivered, despite the warmth of the summer night.
Suddenly, Skyler stopped in his tracks. I looked up at him, but his face was hidden in the darkness.
"Skyler?" I whispered, feeling a sense of unease.
But there was no answer.
I reached out to touch his arm, but my hand closed on empty air.
"Skyler!" I cried out, spinning around frantically.
But he was gone. Vanished into thin air.
I stood there, frozen in shock, wondering if I had imagined the whole thing.
The next day, I woke up feeling anxious and worried. I had no idea where Skyler was, or if he was even okay.
I went about my day, trying to distract myself, but my mind kept wandering back to Skyler.
As the sun began to set, I made my way back to our bedroom, hoping against hope that Skyler would be there.
And then, I saw him. Sitting on the bed, looking as calm and collected as ever.
"Where were you?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady.
Skyler raised an eyebrow. "I went out for a walk," he said, his voice neutral.
I narrowed my eyes. "You vanished into thin air," I accused.
Skyler shrugged. "I must have... stepped away for a moment."
I sighed, feeling frustrated. I didn't know what to make of Skyler, or his strange behavior.
But as I looked into his eyes, I saw something there, something that made me wonder if he was telling me the truth.
Or if he was hiding something from me.
