The next day, Skyler and I left the mansion, heading to our respective jobs. As we drove, I couldn't help but feel a sense of distance between us. I had been thinking a lot about our situation, and I realized that I didn't want to be stuck in this limbo forever.
"Skyler," I said, breaking the silence. "When exactly are you going to leave me?"
He looked at me, surprised. "What do you mean?"
"You said you're looking for your sister, right?" I continued. "And that when you find her, you'll leave immediately. Let's look for your sister today."
Skyler's expression changed, and he looked away. "I don't know, Uresa. It's not that simple."
"Why not?" I pressed. "You've been saying that for weeks now. I'm starting to think you're just using it as an excuse to stay with me."
Skyler's eyes narrowed. "That's not fair, Uresa. I am looking for my sister. But it's not easy. She's been missing for a long time."
I sighed, feeling frustrated. "Fine. Let's look for her then. Today."
Skyler hesitated, then nodded. "Okay. Let's do it."
We spent the day searching for any leads on Natasha's whereabouts. Skyler seemed hesitant at first, but as the day went on, he became more and more invested in the search.
As the sun began to set, we found ourselves in a seedy part of town, knocking on doors and asking questions.
"I don't know, Skyler," I said, feeling exhausted. "I think we're wasting our time."
But Skyler was undeterred. "We have to keep trying," he said. "I know she's out there somewhere."
Just as we were about to give up, a figure emerged from the shadows.
"Skyler?" she said, her voice hesitant.
Skyler's eyes lit up, and he took a step forward.
"NATASHA!" Skyler exclaimed, rushing towards her.
The woman, Natasha, looked taken aback by Skyler's enthusiasm. She eyed me warily, then turned back to Skyler. "Skyler, what's going on?" she asked. "Who is this?" Skyler turned to me, a smile still plastered on his face. "This is Uresa," he said. "She's...a friend." Natasha's eyes narrowed. "A friend?" she repeated. "What do you mean?" Skyler hesitated, looking unsure of how to explain our situation. I decided to take matters into my own hands. "I'm the woman Skyler has been pretending to be married to," I said, my voice firm. "He's been using me to blend in with the humans." Natasha's eyes widened in shock. "Skyler, what have you done?" she asked, her voice stern. Skyler looked sheepish, but I could see a hint of defensiveness in his eyes. "I had to, Natasha," he said. "I had to protect myself." Natasha shook her head. "You've put this woman in danger, Skyler. And yourself. What were you thinking?" I watched the exchange between Skyler and Natasha, feeling a mix of emotions. I was glad that Skyler had finally found his sister, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. What would happen to me now? As if reading my thoughts, Natasha turned to me. "Don't worry, Uresa," she said. "We'll get you out of this situation. You won't have to pretend to be Skyler's wife anymore." But before she could say anything else, a loud noise echoed through the alleyway. We all turned to see a group of shadowy figures emerging from the darkness. "Natasha, run!" Skyler shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me towards his sister. But it was too late. The figures surrounded us, their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. And then, everything went black.
