Chapter 17
.
.
.
After a short silence between us, Arthur spoke again.
"Miss Ester had a class. We're late. Let's go."
At Arthur's words I lifted myself slightly off the bed, raised one eyebrow as I tied my shoes and spoke reluctantly.
"Isn't that all the more reason not to go?"
"Why would it be?"
"Never mind."
Arthur wouldn't skip class for no reason, and anything that could be considered dishonorable to him was not to be done. Sometimes, when I write about him, I get the feeling that such a person could not exist in the world. Even now, seeing him in the flesh didn't change my thoughts.
"So why are you here then? I wouldn't expect someone like you to miss Madame Ester's class, especially for a number 803 like me."
"If someone is in trouble, I don't need a reason to help them."
"Dude, if you keep talking like a saint any longer, I'm gonna head-butt you."
Arthur looked at me, surprised by what I had said, and spoke again.
"Also...."
Now he seemed uncertain whether or not to speak about what he was going to say.
"Also what? Spit it out."
"No one in the class wanted to stand in front of him except me."
"..."
I froze, opened my mouth and sighed honestly after what Arthur had so shyly said.
"Ahhhh.... That was to be expected."
Then we walked back to the classroom together as if nothing had happened.
.
.
.
Back in the classroom, I looked at my stats.
Vayne Salas
→statistics
[Power 4.1]
[Endurance 4.4]
[Speed 4.2]
[Perception 5.1]
[Vitality 4.3]
[Magic power 3.5]
.
I took a look at the effects of my morning training.
My strength endurance and speed stats had increased by 0.1 compared to yesterday.
Even if I pushed myself to death, I couldn't overcome it.
As my hand slowly went up in the air, I remembered that we were in class.
"Hey, that kid is acting weird."
"He's trying to get attention. Don't mind him. I heard he bit an instructor's head off!"
"Damn it! Is that a street rat?"
Ignoring the whispers behind me, I continued to stare at the numbers forming in front of my eyes.
The other people around me couldn't see this ability of mine.
Only I could see my abilities, which was a good thing because only certain magicians had the ability to express their abilities in such numerical terms. But mine appeared directly in front of me in a language that I used in the narrative of my story.
Of course, this scarcity of talent led to the creation of talent counters to determine the level of wizards.
With this, wizards were introduced into a power system model based on letters, like the grading system in schools.
That's fine with me.
The only problem was that this feature only worked for me.
Come to think of it, I still had the same stats as a {G} level wizard.
I guess the main character Arthur's stats should be around (13) minimum.
Even though we were at the beginning of the story, the difference between me and Arthur was too big.
I still have a long way to go.
[You have 1 unread email!]
I clicked on the message on my computer. It was sent by the dome, usually to inform me about a school-wide event.
[Club tryouts start today, would you like to accept active duty?]
My head stopped when I read the email.
"Ahhh there was this event, wasn't there?"
The plot of my story started to move too fast for me to follow. It was time for our main character to get involved. For that I had to make some arrangements.
I had in mind to go to some clubs.
As I said this, a text appeared on my face.
[Task: join the club
Description: a club is a sign of prestige for the Dome. People in the same clubs start to get along with other wizards around them.
For the rest of the story you will need to maintain good relations with the wizards.
you get extra rewards if you have main characters in your club].
[ rewards : join 2 clubs = magic power stadium +1.]
Aaaa....
A quest?
Enlightenment, I thought my reward was just to show my stats.
It was a bit surprising that he gave me quests with extra rewards.
My quest was just to sign up for a school club?
It seemed easier than the pesky tasks I imposed on my poor main character while writing this story.
Besides, joining clubs wasn't difficult in itself.
The Dome also had a variety of clubs and I was sure I could find something to my taste.
Ester, the head instructor, said we couldn't enjoy our young people, but the Dome wasn't exactly that kind of place.
While it was normal to get covered in monster blood from time to time, the Dome encouraged students to utilize their hobbies for sanity.
Being in a relationship was technically forbidden, but tacitly allowed by the entire faculty.
Come to think of it, the professor in our mechanics class the other day seemed pretty nice.
Maybe I'll ask him out after graduation....
No, no, I'm leaving this fucking world after graduation, but... Still, it can't hurt to try.
The Dome's clubs were not unlike college circles. Club promotions took place in the first week after the freshmen arrived.
The number of clubs was around 100, which would have been ideal considering there were 3000 students in the school.
There was a club for almost every subject: hobby clubs like bowling, billiards, VR and also academic clubs like education, martial arts and training. Or art and science clubs
I wondered what I was supposed to do with my free time.
"VR club, Folklore Club... It was interesting."
I felt strange sitting on a bench in the wizards' park in the Dome. After classes were over, the park was crowded with students. Everything felt very mysterious.
I had really become a character in the novel I was writing. Every line was reflected in my life in a completely different way.
Although I found it quite enjoyable, I knew that the world would not remain at peace for long. The future would be very cruel, especially for the weak.
Until then, I had to try everything in my power to become stronger.
The easiest way would be to take a mission.
Whatever force was pulling me into the story didn't seem to want me to be forced into it.
The reward parts of the quests I took were quite good. I was even thinking of meeting Estelle to improve my magic when suddenly I got a free upgrade.
In this case, I needed to be close to the main characters and events in my class. But there was no need to communicate with them. This was something I desired. Who could I sit unobtrusively next to?
The first person I thought of was Eleine Sunders, but ... I didn't meet her very well. I wasn't sure if it was ... a risk worth taking, especially after I noticed the way she looked at me.
Seth Turner. He was the heir to the second largest guild, the Ascendants Guild, but his character didn't seem to allow me to get anywhere near him.
Passss
The remaining two were Estelle Escard and Sofia Lyons.
"Uh, this is a bit..."
I stood up and busily ran around the park to collect the club applications.
Four forms. I didn't get any favorable looks when I asked, but I had done it.
"I'll definitely have to join the traveling club."
I said to myself
Because I knew how the story worked, that club was the most important club to get close to the characters.
Arthur, Eleine and Sofia wrote this club together.
I approved the travel club.
After some deliberation I decided to join only 2 more clubs. The reward would not increase if I joined more clubs.
Instead of the reading club I chose the travel club and the academic club.
The academic club met on Thursdays and the excursion club met on Saturdays or Sundays.
So let's go and sign up.
