Anna's POV
It was Friday , my last day at the company . I stepped into the fully air conditioned reception with a smile on my face . Anyone could easily tell that I was happy and I didn't bother to hide it.
I got to the day's work almost immediately I stepped into the office. I didn't know for how long I had been working but I know for sure that I skipped lunch.
The account had to be balanced or I'll be staying an extra week in the company which I could not afford. Everything had been planned out and must work out as planned.
Solange bounced into my office while I was about to place a call to the reception for a cup of tea.
"Hey boo" she sounded cheerful as always.
"Hii" i said sounding more tired than I intended to.
She dropped a lunch pack on my table, "I figured you skipped lunch , so I brought something for you"
At that instance I felt grateful for her , grateful for giving this friendship a chance . The little things matter to me.
"I was about to call for a cup of tea , I did not realize I skipped lunch"
"What are you working on?" she made herself comfortable on the couch in the corner of the office.
"An international account that needs to be balanced today" I sighed.
"How's it going?"
"Very well actually" I said as a matter of fact " It will be balanced in less than an hour".
"Enjoy your meal" she winked .
"Thank you so much, you're such a life saver" I didn't bother to hide how grateful I was.
"When Dave was packing my lunch this morning , I told him to pack for two" she blushed " he enjoys cooking"
"That's so lovely" I smiled. It was so fun watching people be in love.
"Now he's so eager to meet you" she laughed softly and I just smiled.
"I should go back to work before I get called out for lazying about" she said jokingly as she walked out of the office.
"See ya" I waved.
She came back within seconds startling me "I wanted to say since it's your last day at work, we should go to celebrate after work"
She was grinning from ear to ear. The idea sounded relaxing because it was Friday and I didn't have any plans for the day after work.
"Sure , I know a nice place not far from here" I nodded.
"That's perfect" she said and ran out dramatically.
"You better go get your work done" I half yelled as she ran off.
I dug into the sweet potatoes and omelette and left no crumbs. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I began to eat. I drank from the bottle of orange juice and didn't stop until the bottle was almost empty.
"I need to tell her she won a jackpot with this guy" I thought . The meal tasted so nice and the juice fresh.
I worked until closing hour , taking a few minutes break to text my step sister. She would be happy that I finally texted back. I hesitated for a while not knowing what to write. After so much thought I decided to tell her that I would be paying her a weekend visit at her salon. We could do some catching up.
I sent the balanced account of the week to my boss with a closing remark stating how much I would miss working for the company. That was partially true.
I packed my things and headed towards my car , Solange was there already waiting patiently.
"Dave will pick me up later after we're done with our girls hang out" she sounded excited. I admire her childlike spirit.
Apparently I was excited too but I did a great job hiding it.
We finally settled for a cocktail / karaoke evening at a very big lounge not far from the office.
We got there after driving for ten minutes.
"I have been here just once" I said absentmindedly.
"You are such an extrovert" she laughed .
Yes actually but I've been indoor more lately after bumping into Theo. My heart missed a beat but I relaxed immediately because I knew for a fact that Theo would not be here except if he was stalking me.
And what if he was ? Why do you have to run away from him ? He should move on already.
"This place is beautiful" Solange said jolting me out of my thoughts.
"Yes it is" I smiled.
We settled at the fancy bar and took two shots each and a third one on my request.
The only problem I had with the place was when we moved to the restaurant upstairs , they took really long to bring our food . I ordered burger and fries with chicken, while Solange ordered sea food pasta with chicken.
"The food is good" she did a little happy dance.
"It's worth the wait" i laughed .
We ate in silence .
Karaoke was starting in thirty minutes time so we decided to explore the pool area and that was where I saw him. Not Theo but a better looking man .
Tall and fit , the gym guy kind of fit . With a nice hair cut that really fit his face. I could not get my eyes off his bare chest . He looked so hot especially with his lower body dipped in the pool.
Never been so attracted to a total stranger . The way he sipped from his glass of whiskey was so sexy that I just stood there watching him. I didn't know for sure if it was whiskey he had in the glass but I could bet on my left ass that it was whiskey.
"You can as well just walk up to him and say hi" Solange nudged me .
I almost forgot that she was right bedside me . Because of a man! A very good looking man.
I eyed her " I would rather dance here naked than do that" Of course I was just exaggerating.
She laughed out loud "look at you girl , you're tripping . I would rather you shoot your shot though".
"No please , I'll pass" I waved her off.
I have managed to stay out of romantic affairs for years and a total stranger would not be given the chance to change that. Not ever!
She stared at me in utter disbelief. I just shrugged and laughed.
Just as we were about to go in for karaoke , the handsome man stepped out of the pool and headed towards the mini bar beside the pool.
I stood fixed to a spot . Gorgeous was the right word to describe him , the way he walked , the little smile on his face .
"You like him" Solange whispered in my ears saving me from my unholy thoughts towards an innocent stranger . Maybe not too innocent because when our eyes met I bet that I saw him smirk in a flirty way.
I escaped his gaze that was beginning to send shivers down my spine and rushed in after Solange to sing UPTOWN GIRL by Westlife.
