Chereads / Bully Turned Babydaddy: A Reedeming Love / Chapter 18 - MORE ON THE SAME DAY

Chapter 18 - MORE ON THE SAME DAY

I watched him walk out and before getting inside the Mercedes, turned to look back once again.

I could only hope staring outside from the window that he was not able to see that.

But he smirked as if he could, then putting on his sunglasses, he got in his car, shortly after driving away.

"Janet?"

"Janet?"

I tilted my neck to find Rosetta in my office. Looking out the window again, he was long gone.

"I tried my best to..."

Rosetta was about to start defending herself but she could not stop him from entering my office. To be honest, I could believe her on that.

After all who could stop him?

Although she could have done a better job at warning me about who was in there. I was about to tell her that she could have used her phone to text me on the way...I could have been better prepared to deal with him then.

It also reminded me that with taking care of the kids in the morning, getting them up, preparing their breakfast, and dropping one at school and the other one in daycare, there was no time for me to even check my phone for emails. I could only do it here in the office.

The point was nothing could have made me ready to face him right after the other night.

Right then in the middle, Mr. Sawyer appeared. Rosetta changed her composure right away. He came inside without knocking in.

"Was Mr. Smith here?"

He questioned not wasting any time. It was Rosetta's cue to leave, closing the door behind her and leaving me to deal with everything even though I was barely recovering myself from his presence here a little while ago.

"Morning Mr. Sawyer..."

"Janet saw me the file."

He cut me off. I sensed that he was not here in my office in the very morning waiting for my greetings.

It was very easy to hand him the file because Mr Arrogant had messed up my office in the absence of my presence to find the file that his mother had handed me weeks ago only to throw it on my face reminding me that I had not even opened it to take a look.

"You did not even go through it? Did you?"

Sawyer implored instantly opening the file after ai had handed him looking up at me.

It was not usual to have him so concerned over a case when I have dealt with more serious ones and some heavy clients in the past.

"No, I have not."

I answered, shaking my head negatively.

"Did he come here to hand the file?"

"No. Mrs. Smith did it..."

"Teresa Smith was here?"

Once again he interrupted me. Did he know his mother too?

"Why did not I know about it?"

"I did not know it was so important to you?"

I let out, not expecting this at all. Mr. Sawyer shook his head and then stated.

"It is important, Janet...and I want you to put all the other cases aside to focus on this one."

I was taken aback by what he said. What happened to the man who stood by ethics?

"I'm in the middle of..."

"Give it to someone else."

He added quickly. I could not understand what was the deal here. How could this particular case be so important?

"I do not understand why are you so concerned about this case? If you know the Smiths, then didn't you tell me that we should keep aside all acquaintances and relationships when it came to giving justice?

And if it means so much to you, why don't you take it?"

I voiced out without giving him a moment to stop me in between this time.

"I also taught you that justice delayed is denied. Didn't I?"

He asked me after a little bit of silence.

"It is one of those cases, Janet.  Axel Smith, the youngest son of the Smiths had suffered for a very long time, believe me for it."

He began. I remained quiet not knowing what was the case even, for who was it because I did not bother even running my eyes once over it.

"Teresa had been all over the place for a decade, around the globe...everywhere to fight for clearing off her son's name."

"What about their own lawyers?"

I could not help but ask. I knew that these ultra-rich people had their own set of lawyers to deal with the damages done by them to society.

"You see Teresa's husband is a man who lives for his respect in the society. So he did not think twice before sidelining their son to protect and uphold their family image."

I had not expected to hear what I was learning about the Smith family from Sawyer.

I was aware of a dysfunctional family, where family ties and bonds did not cost more than their name in society.

"You see for some their name and reputation weighed more than their family. "

When Sawyer said that, it reminded me of my father. He did not even think before sidelining me from his family or even to the point of accepting me as his daughter in front of the world. Much later he told my dead mother he would take my responsibility only after she had threatened him against blowing his reputation by exposing the news of their affair to his wife.

So I could understand what Sawyer was trying to say here. Although I had not expected it to turn out like this at all.

"So Janet take this case. "

He said as if he was also requesting me here. He kept the file down on my table getting ready to leave.

But then he turned around one last time before walking out of the door.

"And Janet..."

"Yes?"

I responded staring at the old man.

"If Teresa Smith wanted me to handle the case, she would have come to me.

But she approached you."

He smiled and left closing the door behind.
