"Mom?" Deborah asked, a knowing smile tugging at her lips at the incoming call from her mother-in-law.
Zack sighed, swiping to answer the call. "Yeah, hold on."
"Hi, Mom," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Zachary! Have you eaten yet? I was going to send you that healthy recipe I just came up with the best recipe for a low-carb, sugar-free, gluten-free, dairy-free pizza! You're going to love it."
Zack winced, recalling the last time he'd tried one of her "healthy" concoctions. "Uh, yeah, I'm good, Mom. No need to send that recipe, though. ok."
Deborah stifled a laugh from across the room, clearly finding the entire situation amusing. She was no stranger to the culinary experiments of her mother-in-law, Lincoln and Zack's mother. Whether it was cauliflower smoothies or tofu brownies, the family had endured it all out of love.
