Emily's POV
"You think this kind of place is meant for people like you." A girl with velvet hair pulled my hair roughly.
"Let me go." I winced in pain.
"She has the audacity to talk." Another girl came forward and slapped me.
They took turns in hitting me. I kept crying and calling for help but no one could hear or should I say they didn't care I was locked in the restroom.
"Let me out of here." I cried and banged the door.
I knelt down on the floor and wept. I shouldn't have come for the elders celebration but I wanted my mother to be happy. I was the lowest member of the pack because I was weak. I had only shifted once in my entire life. After that I was so scared to go through the painful process again.
I was different from the rest. The other girls were strong and pretty too,I was just me. Going to school was also difficult for me. My mother had to homeschool me so I wouldn't be bullied but she was wrong.
"Emily, are you there?" I heard someone calling.
"Stella is that you!" I stood up from the floor at the voice of my friend and wiped my tears.
"Yes,are you fine?" She called from outside and tried to unlock the door.
"I'm fine, the door is locked Stella." I tried not to cry again.
"Step away from the door Emily,I'm breaking the door!" Stella shouted.
I stepped away from the door and let Stella do her thing. With a forceful push the door unlocked and Stella ran to where I was and hugged me.
"Are you fine?" She checked if I was hurt.
"I'm fine." I nodded.
"Emily!!" My mom ran inside.
"Mom." I ran to her.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have let you come." She apologized.
"It's not your fault that I'm weak." I sniffed.
My mom hugged me for a while before releasing me. She decided that we should go back home. My mom wasn't rich either, she was also a normal wolf in the pack.
She had come to the elder's birthday in hope to expand her business. She has been struggling to feed us. My dad died before I was born so I didn't know much about him.
"I want to get a job mom." I told her when we got back home.
"Emily!"
"I.. want to…try something mom." I begged.
If I could get a job I could support her. She was getting older than her age and I'm just here leeching on.
"Are you sure?" She asked.
"I am, I'll try." I replied.
"So what do you have in mind?" She asked.
"A Cafe I'll ask around,I really want to do this mom." I pleaded.
"Okay Emily but you have to promise me that you won't get hurt okay?" My mom held my hands.
"I'll try." I smiled. I knew deep down in my heart that wasn't true. I was going to get hurt badly.
I finally found a job after weeks of looking and pleading that I was going to do my best. I got an offer as a waitress at a Coffee shop. My boss was a man. His wife was pregnant with a pup and he needed to be by her side most of the time so he decided to employ me.
"Here's your coffee." I smiled at Stella.
She had come to check on me. I do wonder why she wasn't like the rest, she was beautiful, smart and strong. I envied her confidence most times. Stella is the only friend I have in this pack.
"So how are you coping?" She asked.
"Not bad." I replied.
"I just have to do some cleaning, serve some customers and make sure I deliver an accurate account report." I told her.
Stella finished her Coffee before leaving for work also.I went back to work after she left.
"Welcome." I heard the doorbell ring.
My smile faded when I saw it was Charlotte, the girl who locked me in the restroom the other day. She was with two of her friends. I was scared I wanted to give Stella a call but I didn't want to burden her.
"Look who we have here." Charlotte slowly clapped.
"What would you like to order?" I managed to speak boldly with a smile.
"An Americano." One of the girls winked at Charlotte and stopped her from coming to me.
I rushed to the counter and prepared three cups for them. I placed it carefully on the tray and went to serve them.
"She's so scared." Charlotte laughed.
"Relax girl, you stench of fear." The other girls said.
My hands were trembling. They could kill me and get away with it easily, their parents are noble people of the pack.
"Wait." Charlotte stopped me as I was going back.
"Yes, it's hot. I want a warm blow on it." She raised her coffee.
I did as I was told which I later regretted because she poured the coffee on my face saying I had spit on it. My face was hot. I tried to wipe it off but she stopped me from doing it.
"Why are you being mean to me,I literally didn't do anything wrong to you." I wept.
"I…literally …didn't..do …anything wrong to you." They mimicked.
"Such a cry baby." They laughed.
"This isn't fun." One of them with a blue burette stood up and went to the counter.
I ran and stopped her from going further.
"What are you suggesting, Juliana?" Charlotte asked her from where she sat.
"You've earned today right?" Juliana asked.
"Yes." I wiped my face.
"Hand the cash over." She stretched her hands.
"What…I .. can't…do…that." I shook my head.
"You can't,you don't have a say here!" She pulled my hair with all her strength.
"Juliana, that's not how it works." Charlotte laughed and came to us.
Soon the three of them surrounded me and started hitting me seriously.I could smell my own blood and I cried . I didn't want to go home this way.
"Enough, let's not kill her." Charlotte motioned from them to stop.
"Relax, she's going to heal, she has a wolf." The last one whose name is windy spoke up.
"Oh no.. she's got a nosebleed." Juliana yanked my hair.
"Why did you guys hate me so much?" I cried and let the tears flow down.
"It's because you're weak stupid, you don't belong here!" Charlotte yelled.
"When I saw you on Elder John's birthday my whole blood boiled in anger and that reminded me of the mating ceremony." Charlotte said.
"You are telling her of the mating ceremony, you want her to be there?" Windy asked.
"Charlotte, are you for real!" Juliana exclaimed.
"Of course not, I'm telling her because I don't want her near there." She continued.
"Do you understand stupid." Charlotte kicked my stomach.
I didn't answer her. The only moment I've been waiting for is to meet my mate.I was going to go there. My mate was my only hope of survival.Â
I closed my eyes and embraced the darkness that called me not wanting to bear the pain anymore.
