"Hey," Claire said softly, approaching his bedside.
"Hey," Anthony replied, his voice still weak.
There was an awkward silence between them.
Claire fiddled with her thumbs, trying to find the right words, but they seemed to elude her. She had so much she wanted to say, so many things she needed to ask, but she knew this wasn't the right moment to confront him with everything. He was still recovering, and she didn't want to stress him further.
"You gave me a scare," she finally said, her eyes focusing on a spot just above his shoulder to avoid his gaze.
"I know. I'm sorry," Anthony replied, his voice filled with a sincerity that surprised her. He slowly tried to sit up, grimacing as he did.
