Anthony's reaction to hearing Megan's name was instant and intense. His heart skipped a beat, and his mind started racing with questions. He hadn't told her he was in the hospital, so how did she know? Who could have informed her? Why was she here now, of all times?
"Let her in," he finally said, though his voice sounded more uncertain than he intended. He quickly glanced at Claire, trying to gauge her reaction. As expected, Claire's expression was anything but happy. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, and her eyes seemed colder than usual.
"Did you tell her to come and visit you?" Claire asked, her voice quiet but strained.
"No," Anthony said quickly, trying not to sound defensive, though that's exactly how he felt. "I haven't spoken to her in a while."
