The black hovercraft arrived at Serenity, and Percy stepped out. His eyes immediately narrowed, his nose twitching as a foul stench assaulted him.
It was the smell of blood and piss mixed into a nauseating concoction, with the broken bodies of dead soldiers and scattered mechanical parts serving as the ingredients.
It was a sight to behold. Percy's eyes grew even thinner as he took in the state of the hospital. Cracks ran all around the building, and they seemed to be spreading.
At the center of each crack was a thin hole and nothing else.
Percy stared at the hole for a while, his entire body still. He looked lost.
And then he heard it. A thin, high-frequency sound that seemed to make even the air vibrate. It was as if the world was weeping as the metallic needle tore through it.
Percy smirked.
He tilted his head just enough to avoid not only the needle but also the vortex of volatile air that surrounded it.
