Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Halcyon Days

If you told me that I would be living such a normal life three years ago I wouldn't believe you...Right now am sitting in a normal classroom listening to a normal teacher as they blab on about whatever lesson they have in their curriculum. I couldn't care less about whatever his saying because I already know them, I know them all...I know that sounds arrogant but for someone who had undergone extremely vicious trainings in DedSect, I just couldn't take this lesson seriously. Today was Cansas...oh...lemme explain.

Cybrmille is a city in space, it doesn't revolve around any celestial body...so in other words it's a rouge planet. Here we use a calendar very different from Earth's. We use the Schiezel Calendar which is comprised of 5 months and in each of these months, 100 days. A day on Cybrmille is 10 hours on Earth. The five months are Ralas, Constaz, Cansas, Ludium and Schlark. The passing of time is dictated by how many lightyears Cybrmille has travelled. 100 light years is one month. Oh...and Cybrmille can move at 70% the speed of light. We inside don't feel the inertia....I don't know how that works...only he does...Alex Dae...

I, Yu Trevor, sat within the confined walls of Class X, deeply engaged in my own thoughts. I gazed out of the window completely oblivious to the fact that my teacher had yelled my name thrice already.

"TREVOR!"

"Huh!?"

I jolted in my seat due to suddenly being called out.

"Yes...", I said as I got up.

"'Yes?'...Whatever it's your turn to answer the question."

"Ok.", I said nonchalantly.

Everyone turned to me with a look that implied, "He must think his hot shit."

I glanced over the class and locked eyes with Iguro, who stared at me with a blank look on his face. I turned to the teacher who immediately asked,

"What is the formula for finding speed of light in a vacuum?"

I looked around the class. No one except for Amanai and a few knew the question. I sighed as I said, "E = mc^2. Einstein's formula."

The teacher's face turned to one of disbelief as he said, "...Correct."

Of course it is. We were taught all of this back at DedSect...I guess I can be grateful of that at least.

I felt stares around me and heard whispers, my enhanced hearing allowed me to catch every single gossip,

"He thinks his cool", a guy who I remembered to be called Vance said.

Yes. I was given the info of every student in school from all classes. Mr. Adam gave me a record book and asked me to memorize their names and rankings.

Vance...I think his ranking was a C or something...

Now, rankings aren't just measured by academic ability alone, no, they include physical ability and social ability as well. A person's rank is judged by their overall ability which is averaged from the three aspects. Rankings go from E to D to C to B to A and S to Z. With E being the lowest and Z being the highest, rumor has it that no one with a ranking of Z has appeared in a long time except from me of course.

Quite honestly, I purposefully lowered myself so as to not attracted unwanted attention but well... things aren't going as I had expected.

"He's actually kinda cool...", a girl named Murano.

"Nah... if anything he's kinda plain...", another girl said, her name, Satsuki.

"Come on girls, don't badmouth him, he just enrolled last week. Cut him some slack.", a girl named Honami said shooting them down.

Honami Sakurako, a Japanese girl with a rating of A, a kind attitude and paired with the fact that she leads the girls of this class, she is nothing short of an excellent student.

I sat back in my chair and gazed outside as the teacher regained their composure and continued their lesson.

His words going through one ear and going out of the other.

The class ended after 20 more minutes, everyone packed their stuff and reached for the door. I followed suite but then the girl called Honami called out, grabbing everyone's attention. Including mine.

"May I have your attention everyone."

Everyone turned to look at her.

"Honami?", people asked as they stopped.

"Good. Everyone I'd like for us to all welcome Yu properly."

"Huh...?", some people put on surprised looks, of course, they'd be surprised even I was surprised as well.

"Yu has not been treated very nicely lately. It appears some of us still find him as an enigma and someone with large boundaries. So... that's why I want to... [she takes a deep breath and exhales] Negate that boundary!", Honami says with a smile as she stretches out her hand towards Yu.

Negate...! That word...it's a secret code for me...she's telling me that she's either an Occlude or Observer! Which means she knows am an Occlude!

I remain calm as I smile and grab her hand in a handshake.

It's warm and soft.

In contrast with my battle-hardened hand. I wanted to hold her hand forever but apparently, holding it any longer than I already have will make me look like a simp so I pull away.

"Argh! Fine!", I heard Satsuki shout as she stomped over to me and grabbed my hand before shaking it violently.

"Don't think am doing this because I want to!", she said as she held my hand tightly. She looked flustered.

What did they call them again? Aha! Tsunderes....

I inwardly smirk as I glance at her frowning face which had a red tint on it.

"Me too!", Murano said as she rushed over to grab my other hand with both of her hands, she smiled at me awkwardly.

Seems like she's not really the social type...

Then it him me. Two girls were holding both of my hands really tightly but their grip wasn't the problem, it was the envious eyes of approximately 70% of the guys in the class. It seems Honami's proposal had the opposite effect. The guys looked at me scornfully, due to this, I quickly pulled back my hands and slipped them into my pockets.

"Well...Honami I am grateful for your concern but...it appears the class is uncooperative so...I'll be taking my leave now."

But just as I said that, Iguro walked up to and took my hand for a handshake with a smile on his face.

A temple grew on my cheek, we're friends already you don't need to do this, you fool.

Amanai then said, "Oh no this won't do at all. How about we have a quick round of cards. All 20 of us. It won't take too long and it'll help in bonding."

A few looked at her skeptically but when Honami approved it, they complied.

One hour later.

Apparently, we had decided to play Poker. We had 10 matches; two students were pit against each other. I was paired up with a loud guy called Miyamoto who I defeated. The game had three rounds. The first with twenty players, second with ten players and third with five players. In my second round, I faced off against Kyouko who was no easy opponent still I defeated her and ultimately lost to a girl named Sakayanagi who was somewhat defeated by Honami. The game ended with a tie between Amanai and Honami.

"Man... you're strong.", Honami said as she sighed.

"Oh no you're way stronger.", Amanai said brushing off the flattery.

They both smiled at each other as they walked down the hallway.

"Well... I accomplished my task."

"You mean about Yu?", Amanai asked for clarification.

"Yes! He seemed to have had a lot of fun and made quite a few friends.", she said with a smile.

"Yes, that's true.", Amanai said with a smile of her own as she looked forward.

They walked on in silence while two guys watched them from behind.

"Cute, isn't she?", Iguro said as he stared at them.

"Uh...who?", Yu asked in confusion.

"Honami, I mean. There's no way am letting other guys simp on my girlfriend."

"You pretty much just simped on Honami right now."

"No. I asked a question", he said seriously, forcing me to comply.

"Yeah. I guess she's cute."

"Really? I thought you'd be colder", he said with a grin.

"Am just stating facts.", I said as I brushed aside his remark.

"So, it's a fact that you like Mari, right?"

"What?". I said as I turned to him.

"Don't play dumb with me, she's literally the only girl in existence that you actually enjoy talking to.", he said as he grinned.

"I don't understand.", I said trying to back away but he sandwiches me.

"Remember am an Observer...well Hybrid and you're an Occlude I can tell the emotions you have by seeing your color. Your color turns to the same one that Amanai usually has when talking to me."

Damn those eyes of yours! Oh well...there's no escape.

"Ugh...I give up.", I said.

He smiled triumphantly before smiling gently as he said, "You know...you should enjoy these Halcyon Days."

I smiled, "Yeah."

We both looked forward to the school gate and saw a female figure waving while smiling happily at us...I mean...me.

Iguro smirked at me as he walked over to Amanai who was now standing next to the gate. Honami had already left it seemed. I walked towards Mari with a small smile which she returned with one of the brightest smiles I have ever seen.

"Oh? You seem to have missed me very much.", I said, teasing her.

"...Shut up.", she said shyly as she grabbed my arm.

I smiled as we walked along the street but when we reached a certain distance from the gate, I bent and pecked her cheek.

"WHA?!", she exclaimed as her face turned bright red.

I turned her chin so she could face me and said, "You, okay?"

She turned to me with a pout and yelled, "You kiss a girl outta nowhere and ask her if she's, ok?!"

"But you liked it didn't you?"

"You little..."

I put my hand to her lips hushing her and smiled.

"Let's go.", I said pulling her along so we could catch up to Iguro and Amanai.

This kind of peaceful moments went on for over two months as I stayed at that school, it was almost frightening. No agent from DedSect or DarkMatter had come after me. I... I was glad... I was happy. I was able to make friends outside of Iguro and Amanai such as the kind Honami, the impulsive Miyamoto, the arrogant Ceil, the easy-going Kyouko and the mysterious Sakayanagi. Mysterious as in, she felt off at first when we met. She always seemed to stare at me with inquisitive eyes, which made me feel suspicious on whether she was an Observer but overtime we got to know each other better.

Throughout those two months nothing out of the ordinary happened, nothing was supposed to happen. It was all meant to be fun and games...so why...?

Why did this have to happen?
