Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Daemonic Impact

The match had restarted on a calm note. The ball was going to several people on both sides, I included. It seemed like my team still had their doubts about my last play. I guess it wouldn't be strange for them to call it a fluke. I am new to soccer after all.

The ball was passed to one of my teammates, Okawa who was from Class Y and had a ranking of C. Despite his average rank, he was able to slip through the defenses of the opposing team and made a beeline for the goal, he readied a shooting motion but was immediately stopped by two defenders who nabbed the ball from him.

Bewildered, he tried to get it back but failed. The defender with the ball shot it towards a pack of players from both their team and mine.

Hmm...

Just when I thought it was a foolish move, I saw a very tall boy jump higher than anyone else in the pack. Catching the boy with a chest trap before kicking it towards another direction. The crowd went wild when they saw him.

James Kanzaki, rank A. Exceptional in both his studies and physique. A true genius.

I turned to the crowd of ladies who screamed, "Go James~!"

Apparently, his got good social skills too huh...

I turned back to the field to find the ball now in the hands of a boy in the opposing group named Noel Vance, Rank B.

He had a short but built stature and white hair. With elegant and graceful movements, he evaded a pincer attack from my teammates and made his way for the goal. I watched as he got the ball stolen from him by Hashimoto who used a jumping trap.

"Hah! Phat Chance Noel!"

"Shut it, dunce!"

From their exchange, it seemed that they were rivals but I was more concerned with Hashimoto's wording.

Phat...?

Anyway, I continued to wait and stick around for the perfect chance. The key to a goal.

Miyamoto got the ball and dashed for the opponent's goal but he was still faraway. And as a result, got sandwiched by two opponent players, refusing to accept defeat, he kicked the ball into an empty spot, which so happened to be in front of me.

Yep. That's it, the key to a goal.

My shooting course was completely clear, apparently this spot was close to the boundary line and was an appropriate spot for a goal but... of course am not the only one who saw it.

"Where do you think you're going sneaky rat?", Dex yelled as he blocked my course.

He was totally right, even after my previous play. No one has had their eyes on me, not the players nor the crowd. To the normal person this would have been depressing but to me, it was a godsend. It allowed me to hide in perfect darkness before executing my unsuspecting opponent.

Dex closed in on me with a sliding motion.

Am guessing he thinks that even if I dodge, I won't be able to get my stance back quickly enough to shoot...which will give his teammates time to jump me but...

Just as he closed in, I caught the ball with my legs as I jumped. Dex widened his eyes as he saw me take my stance midair, I didn't waste a single second as I slammed the ball with my right leg and sent it flying towards the goal. Everyone's eyes followed the ball as I said with a smirk,

"Daemonic Impact."

Daemonic Impact. A move I created by leveraging my body's entire weight into my right leg, the resulting force is caused by the weight of my body which is inputted into my kicking power. This can only be done by jumping, that's why Dex's decision was also part of my plan.

The ball went so fast and on a faultless straight course that within the blink of an eye it had already stretched the goal net to its limit. The goalkeeper and defenders were frozen in place due to their inability to react.

I landed on the grass gracefully before looking down at Dex whose mouth was still agape, "Am going to win this Dex..."

I paused before continuing.

"I am going to destroy that image of perfection in your head."

Dex looked shaken for a minute before he took a deep breath as he regained his composure and got up, "It's just one point and you're already egoistical..."

Dex walked up to me and closed the distance before saying, "When I said you should interfere, I didn't just mean the match...I meant... my life.", He said that with a very eerie smile that would have made anyone have chills down their spine but I didn't waver, in fact, my response caused that very smile to disappear.

"Ok Dex, am going to destroy your life."

"Fine then it's a death match."

Both of us stared each other down, the pressure that was emanating from our stances could be felt even amongst the crowd.

"Hey...what's going on there?", a girl in the crowd squeaked.

"A rivalry?"

"No way!"

"I... I couldn't even see that last shot."

"Those two are monsters..."

"Is Dex going to lose?"

The crowd began to feel shaken as we entered our positions.

At the blow of the referee's whistle, the game restarted. As Dex and I glared at each other, we had the same thought.

The winner of this match is the one who scores the last point.

Meanwhile in the crowd, Amanai and Iguro watched the match.

"Sigh~ Things sure are getting heated up...", Amanai said.

"That last shot was amazing!", Iguro exclaimed with sparkles in his eyes.

"Yep, true.", Ceil said as she pushed her bangs to the side.

"Ceil?", Amanai asked, surprised.

"What am I not allowed to watch?", she said to justify her presence.

"I thought you found these kinds of things bothersome.", Amanai remarked.

"This match just caught my eye that's all.", she said.

"Correction. Yu just caught your eye.", Iguro said with a smirk.

"Whaaa?!", Ceil replied seemingly flustered.

"Ahahaha!", Amanai and Iguro laughed in unison towards her response.

"Ugh...", Ceil used a hand fan to try to cool her face, "His just cool that's all...he's not like other guys..."

"You're right.", Iguro said as he watched Yu play, "He's very different..."

BONK!

"It's creepy for a guy with a girlfriend to gaze at another guy like that.", Amanai said after smacking Iguro on the head.

"Ow! I didn't mean it in any creepy way!", Iguro cried as he held his head in pain.

"Oh~ Are you sure you're not-", Ceil tried to tease him but was immediately caught off by Iguro.

"Am not gay!"

"...I wanted to say are you sure you're not clingy but woah...", Ceil said as she snickered at him which caused Amanai to burst into laughter.

Iguro stood there glaring at them as they laughed but then all of a sudden, he saw a strange color.

"Hey guys...I'll be going to the bathroom."

When they heard his words, they stopped laughing, "Iguro...are you ok?", Amanai concerned because of his tone of voice.

"Uh...yeah.", he said as he walked off.

"Hey! Am sorry...", she said trying to stop him.

But he didn't hear her and had made his way out of the crowd already.

"Maybe I shouldn't have teased him so hard.", she said as she let out a sigh.

"Don't worry am sure he'll be back soon.", Ceil said as she stared at the direction he left from.

"Yeah."

Iguro made his way for the strange color he saw. Tracing it, Iguro walked to the back of the school and hid behind a wall when he heard voices.

"We need the boy.", a deep gruff voice said.

"Yeah, but let's make a commotion first.", a voice that seemed to belong to a teenager replied.

"No there's no need."

"Look do you think the boy would just hand himself to us without a fight? Or do you think we can beat him in a fight?"

"Yes."

"I know you're strong but I heard that boy's whole body is a Ballista. If he goes wild with it, he'll kill even you!"

"Keep your voice down.", the deep voice urged.

"What am saying is let's make an example first then we threaten him. Sounds good?"

"Hmph. Do what you want I'll be on the roof."

"Sweet! I already have a target; in 30 minutes you'll find out."

WHOOSH!

Iguro heard a sound and when he peeked the two conspirers were nowhere to be found.

Boy? Ballista? Fight? Roof? Example?

I don't understand...should I tell Amanai?

At that thought, Iguro remembered Amanai's laughing face.

No, I don't want her to stop smiling. I don't completely understand the situation but I do know that one of them is on the roof, I'll head to them.

Iguro turned and made his way for the rooftop, with a black cube in hand.
