One evening, after another failed training session, William brought her to the edge of the forest where the pack was gathering. "I think it's time you came on a mission with us," he said, his tone light but his eyes sharp, watching her reaction closely.
Stella hesitated, a cold shiver running down her spine. "A mission? What kind of mission?"
William smiled, though it didn't reach his eyes. "Just a simple run. We're going to take care of some business in the city. It'll be good for you to get out, to see what we do."
Despite her unease, Stella agreed. Maybe this was what she needed—to be out in the world, to see if something, anything, would trigger her memories. William's hand was firm around hers as they moved through the shadows, leading her into the night.
