Stella lay motionless on the floor, her eyes shut, her breathing shallow. The room was heavy with tension as Inspector Rose knelt beside her, trying to make sense of what had just happened. Rose's brow furrowed, worry creasing her normally steely expression.
"She's in shock," Rose muttered under her breath, glancing over her shoulder at the officer behind her. "Get a medical officer in here. Now."
The officer nodded and bolted from the room, returning moments later with a paramedic, who immediately crouched down next to Stella and began checking her vitals.
"Her pulse is weak," the paramedic said grimly. "She needs immediate medical attention. If we don't get her to a hospital soon, she could slip into a coma."
Rose clenched her fists, her mind racing. The mission was spiraling out of control, and the last thing she needed was to lose Stella, not when they were so close to breaking William's hold on her.
