The doc or King didn't show himself until we had finally brought in all the bodies to the morgue and put that bitch warlock on the stone table for the examination. The doc then finally came out of his office with his assistant/wife with him. His wife was a surprise. She was nice looking female with hour glass body looked deeply attached to him.
The doc was veteran. It was all in how he moved. He was a tall big sum-ah-bitch with dark hair and hard dark eyes. He studied my face like he knew me but then he seemed to that we didn't know each other at all. He offered me his large scared hand to him.
I took his hand in firm handshake. "Hello, My name is Danny Sage." I said.
The doc looked at me. He nodded his head. "I am Doctor Arnold Blair. You are a new comer to my world. I've been told your profession is Ranger. Did you have time in the military in your world." He said.
I nodded. "Yes. I advanced to mid rang officer position in my world's military. I retired and became a sort of guardsman in my own time and then ranger that helped people and solved problems for people that needed help. It's what I do best and it's the job a lady offered me when I got the invitation to come here." I said.
"Invitation?!" Doc Blair said and looked at Irons.
Irons bowed to Doc Blair. "The goddess Luna sent him here." He said in respectful tone.
Doc Blair seemed to relax instantly. "Oh. If she sent you here then everything is alright. Welcome to Drakescape. We could use another keeper of the king's peace in the city. You'll be heading to the Crossroads for work correct?" He said letting go of my hand.
I smarted up at the authority and command in his voice. "Yes Sir." I said.
Doc Blair smiled. "At ease soldier. I was a captain in the military as well in my own time. It's good to have another service man in the city to help people and maintain the king's peace here in capital city. Who took out this shit head on my table?" He asked.
"I did Sir. From what little information I was given when I came here this piece of shit deserved to die and should have been put to sleep along with the rest of the shit heads with him. He was a warlock and guilty of child murder and host of other crimes." I said.
Doc Blair sighed and nodded walking past me to stare at the dead body on the stone table. "Mr. Irons can this body be burned along with the others without giving off any dark magical energies into the atmosphere of city?" He said.
Irons blinked at Doc Blair. He seemed surprise that he would have asked the question. "Sir. That is a very excellent question. In all honesty I'm not to sure if it would be wise with the type of dark magics the bastard exposed his body to throughout his entire existence. I would suggest you asking the wizards and the town's battlemages to come and look at the body first to figure out the best means of destroying the body without harming the population with any type of exposure." He said.
Doc Blair nodded his head stiffly and didn't looked at all pleased or surprised by Irons reply to his question. "Understood. Mr. Irons. How many more warlocks or dark wizards are still at large in my domain?" He said.
Irons sighed shaking his head. "I have no way of knowing sir. Wizards and Warlocks are a different type of breed. The Wizards in your country are totally loyal and-" He said but paused when Doc Blair looked at him.
"Mr. Irons. This creature on my table. Is he anything like you or the old men at the library?" He said.
"No Sir. This bastard was an abomination and dealt in dangerous deadly types of magic that poisoned his soul and body greatly. His death was a welcome one Sir." Irons said.
Doc Blair nodded. "Captain Hawks will be waiting up stairs to pay you. I will need you to head to the library get them to come down here to examine this body to see how it can be safely destroyed and also tell them I will need their advice on pardoning wizards from the wanted posts to free up the wanted posts. I will be upgrading the price on the remaining posts afterward and I will need you to take care of putting to sleep creatures such as this shit bag from my domain. Do you get me?" He said.
I straightened up. Irons stared at Doc Blair. He nodded. "Yes. Sir. That is a wise decision. I will get on that work immediately." He said.
"Thank you Mr. Irons. I admire your work effort and that of the mages have done in cleaning up the streets and the by roads of country. I have followed your work closely and your hunts. Your efforts in riding the country at a large of individuals like this create I greatly appreciate. You are an effect killer." Doc Blair said.
Irons bowed his head in respect to Doc Blair. "I am honored by your compliments your Majesty." He said.
"Compliments!? I didn't mean it that way at all. Your a civilized man that's an effective eliminator of trash. I plan to focus you in a direction that will be to your good future and away from me having to remove your head. You both may go now." Doc Blair said in a calm voice with no hint of heat but the power in his words was real.
My body reacted to his voice and power in him automatically. This man had power. There were several other people in the room when Doc Blair spoke nobody said a damn word or breathed at the end of his words.
Irons bowed to him and turned on his heel and quickly marched out of the morgue. I followed quickly behind him. Irons was pissed off. He had every right to be. Doc Blair had been serious and the power behind his calm delivery of a promise of death was cold.
We walked up a long damn flight of stairs to the ground floor. Irons said nothing to anyone as we passed several guardsmen. Hell I hardly think he remembered I was alive by the determination on his steps and direction he was heading. I followed him past two double doors into the main office area and then toward a open door into a small office. A tall man with long silver blond hair tied back in a ponytail dressed in dark blue uniform. He was waiting and gave Irons nod of respect and stared at him pointedly. I smiled at him held out my hand to him. Irons came in quickly picked up his two large purses on the desk and quickly turned and left out the door as I walked in behind him.
I did notice pale determined gaze on Iron's face. He was afraid but determined to keep himself alive. I then put him out of my thoughts as I turned to the man remaining in the office.
Captain Hawks stared at me with steady gaze. Then he smiled and he held out his hand to me. I smiled back took it in a firm shake. "Welcome to Drakescape. I'm Captain Hawks. You met his majesty in the morgue. What is your profession?" He said.
"In my world I was a detective. I've come to know your world would refer to a detective as a ranger or street runner. I was told I need to head to a place called Crosswords to get some work and start my career." I said.
Captain Hawks nodded and picked up two smaller purses of coins and handed them over to me. "That's your first pay for a job well done. Crossroads is a enchanted sanctuary bar and grill that you can find work for your bread and butter. Just head out the door and head into the city and you'll find your way to the Crossroads. Did his majesty explain the laws here to you?" He said.
I frowned and shook my head. "No. I just got a general rule for one law here." I said honestly.
Captain Hawks raised his eye brows. "What law would that be?" He said.
"If your a monster either leave his domain or he'll send his warriors to take you out this world personally." I said.
Captain Hawks nodded his head. "That's about right. Most of Drakescape city state is run in a traditional system. No monsters or assholes that disturb the king's peace with violence or wild barbaric actions will be welcome. They will killed or removed from the state. The political leaders are the five merchant/guild leaders. They manage keeping people civilized and working. The owner and operator of Crossroads is one of the guild leaders you'll technically be under."
I frowned. "How would I technically be under him?" I asked.
Captain Hawk grinned. "Well to be honesty Rangers fit in a funny sort of job and social class here. They are freelancers. They aren't paid a salary by Crossroads they just work there as a place to meet clients and network with other rangers over small cases or matters to small for his Majesty or the guardsmen to deal with on a day to day basis if you get me. Don't worry the owner of Crossroads will help you understand. Keep the peace and manage your business and you'll be a credit to Drakescape and his Majesty's friend. You'll learn the in's and outs as you stay here. Good luck to you!" He said.
I nodded and shook his hand again. "Thank you Sir. As I promised Doc Blair or his Majesty I'm only here to help and do what I do best. Good day to you Sir." I said and turned leaving out the door.
