Chapter 35 - Hobgoblin Lair (3)

Hearing what his sister said, Ellis felt relieved that he wouldn't have to waste even more time exploring these dead bathes and said.

"Okay. That's reassuring"

Walking down the right path, and after killing a few groups of hobgoblins along the way, the path didn't branch out again. And though it took some time, they eventually arrived at another large room.

Crouching by the side of the entrance, Ellis carefully surveyed the area in front of him. He noticed that the number of hobgoblins was slightly higher than in the previous room, and the mini-boss at the far end appeared to be more of the agile type than the last one.

After a lot of consideration, Ellis still decided to stick with the same strategy as before and face them head-on. This time, without the hindrance of poison, and with his top-shape, he just needed to be more careful and avoid underestimating them.

Looking at his sister, who was giving him an accusatory gaze after he told her that they would follow the same plan from the previous room, Ellis explained his reasoning. And after reassuring her, he moved ahead.

After entering the room and assessing the clearing in front of him, filled with hobgoblins, Ellis decided not to dive too deeply like last time, so he could have a side to retreat to. He then started by taking on the hobgoblins who were attempting to get to his behind.

As Ellis began to kill the hobgoblins, he immediately noticed the difference. The battle was lasting a bit longer than before because he was moving around a lot more, but he was still confident he could emerge victorious with just a few scratches.

"Brother, be careful, the boss is moving toward you."

Hearing his sister's shouting, Ellis quickly looked toward the mini-boss and immediately noticed it charging at him with an impressive speed. Glancing around at the hobgoblins still surrounding him, he realized he'd only managed to kill about twenty so far, with many more still remaining.

Continuing his fight with the regular hobgoblins, Ellis noticed them parting to make way for the boss. So he skillfully maneuvered around the remaining hobgoblins, focusing on taking down as many as possible while avoiding a direct confrontation with the boss.

Just as no more than ten regular hobgoblins remained, Ellis found himself forced to face the mini-boss. Seeing the creature lunge at him with elongated, poison-dripping nails, Ellis focused intently on dodging the attacks. And stuck to his plan to take down the remaining hobgoblins around him first, before fully engaging with the mini-boss.

While he was struggling a little with the battle, Ellis felt a wave of relief when his sister joined him after taking down the hobgoblin archers. As he could finally concentrate more on his fight with the mini-boss.

While bracing himself for a long battle with the mini-boss, Ellis clenched his fist and punched, anticipating it dodging. But to his surprise, he landed a solid hit on the mini-boss's shoulder on his first strike.

Seeing how the force created a noticeable hole and pushed the mini-boss back. And seizing the opportunity, Ellis followed up to it and with another punch to its face, finished the fight.

Spacing out a little as he watched the mini-boss's corpse fall down, Ellis was surprised at how easily he had finished the fight. It could be because this mini-boss was more of the agile type and lacked the defense of the previous one, or perhaps it was due to him being in top shape.

"Good job, brother. That was awesome." taking him out of his revere was his sister's compliment, and Ellis to accept it with stride.

"Good job, brother. That was awesome," his sister's compliment broke him out of his reverie. And Ellis accepted it with a nod, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

"Well, I told you. It was gonna be different."

"Y-yes, you were right." Seeing how she replied with an embarrassed look, Ellis finally felt the atmosphere imporove.

Looking at corpses around him, and seeing how nothing dropped, even from the mini-boss. Not even a return stone, while his sister had many dropped already, he was sure now, that nothing will drop for him.

Looking at the corpses around him and seeing how nothing had dropped, not even a return stone from the mini-boss, meanwhile, his sister had already collected several. Ellis felt certain now that nothing would drop for him.

"Sister, in the next battles, you finish off the boss. Nothing will drop for me, it seems."

"Oh, actually, I was surprised too. The magic stones that have dropped so far are a lot more than usual, especially from the corpses you've killed. But nothing else has dropped, which seemed strange to me as well."

Hearing what his sister said made Ellis even more certain now. With the blessing effect from his mother, his luck was a lot better than before, but nothing dropping means, nothing will drop, and he should try to get used to these situations.

"Well, nothing can be done."

Maybe seeing his disappointed look, Clara tried to comfort him and said.

"Don't be too disappointed, brother. We can just buy what we need from others. My second skill, Air Punch, was also something I bought. So, with enough magic stones, there's no need to worry."

Seeing his sister trying to comfort him, Ellis felt as though the recent argument had been an illusion. He felt a surge of happiness as the tension seemed to dissolve.

"That can also be done. Thanks."

"Let's continue."

...

As they delved deeper into the dungeon, the paths began branching out again. And this time, there were more than two routes to choose from, unlike before. However, with his sister's innate talent, navigating them proved to be a piece of cake.

And after some battles, they soon arrived at the third large room, where the mini-boss awaited—a hobgoblin archer.

Having grown accustomed to the hobgoblins and their tactics, they dealt with the normal hobgoblins first. Once the way was clear, they approached the mini-boss together.
