Chapter 7 - Signing the marriage agreement

"As you wish Miss Norton! We will send her right away the high class section," replied the oldest of the nurses with a shy tone of voice.

She thereafter turned to her colleagues and instructed them to do as ordered by the new head of the city's general hospital. However, for she was so nervous, she couldn't help but yell at them, demanding they quicken and put into action the will of their new chief.

"Move your fat bottom ! You've all heard Miss Norton. Take Mrs. Norton to the high class section and put her in one of the finest patients' rooms," the veteran shouted as she removed the glasses that were hiding her red eyes.

The nurses did not dare to waste another second as the fear of also being sacked like the former director doctor John had taken hold of them.

There was absolutely pointless to try to vex the woman who, in all likelihood, was now the new head of the workers, hence their superior in the city's general hospital hierarchy.

If Miss Joanna Norton had indeed been able to drive the prominent doctor John from work with a simple phone call, getting rid of little caregivers like them was certainly going to be a piece of cake for the new boss, they thought inwardly.

"Alright Doctor. We'll take care of it right now," the oldest of the nurses replied to the new director before asking her colleagues to follow her as she headed towards Joanna's mother's bed.

"Assist Mrs. Norton to sit in the wheelchair over there," the oldest nurse instructed her younger colleagues.

The latter, under the watchful eyes of Joanna, grabbed Cecilia by each of her arms and helped her get up from the bed before making her sit on the wheelchair which was lying five meters away from the sickbed.

Joanna silently rejoiced at her new influence over those who previously disdained her. Deep in thought, she told herself that this was how the world worked: the big fish ate the little fish.

From that moment, it became clear to her that becoming the wife of a rich and powerful man was now the goal she had to achieve in order to save her sick mother, but also to resolve some personal problems with those who did not wish her luck.

And suddenly, she tilted, because someone pinched her right arm. The author was her mother Cecilia, who was about to leave her lower class room for the high class section upstairs.

"Joanna, but what's wrong my sweetheart ? You're going to become someone's wife soon if I've got right? And also, you're now the new boss of the city's hospital ?;but how is that even possible ? What a scoop!," Cecilia who was completely shocked began to cry all the tears of her body.

"Mom, don't weep even for a second! I'll disclose everything to you in due time. For now, follow the nurses to your new room. I'll visit you as soon as I'm done with my installation at my new position," Joanna assured her mom Cecilia.

Then with a very commanding look at the nurses, she let them understand that it was time for them to finally send the one who mattered most in the world to her. And without even saying a single word, the caregivers took the patient out of the low standard room to escort her to the high class floor.

As soon as they took the way out, Joanna's phone rang once again for the third time of the day. Now that she was all by herself, she pronounced boldly the name of Ben Madoff without even checking the phone's screen, convinced that it could only be the tycoon. It's a hard to guess how she could be sure about it.

After purposely leaving the phone ringing over and over again, she finally accepted the call at the last second, just when it was about to be forwarded to her voicemail.

"Hi uncle, what's up?" she answered jokingly. However it wasn't that funny for the caller.

"But no, it's me Madoff. Ben Madoff, can't you recognize my voice? Or is the network that bad?" reacts the mogul while trying to conceal his annoyance.

"Yes, I know that it's you on the line. But uncle or Ben Madoff, there's no difference between both I think. You have almost twice my age, isn't it correct? You're certainly thirty five years old upward i think whereas I just turned nineteen years old two weeks ago, you therefore deserve I call you uncle. You should be pride of it though," Joanna replied without filter.

Ben Madoff was upset that the young Joanna put forth their age gap. Being called uncle or whatever by a woman with whom he was eying to tie the knot with was too embarrassing for him. However, for he didn't want to initiate an argument with her for fear that things would get out of control and that what he had wrongly done to her their notorious evening after their meeting would make the headlines of the scandal media; he chose to let it go and change the topic of the discussion with a pretense of laughter.

"Haha Joanna, how funny you are ! I expect no less from my wife to be. Have you deeply thought about marrying me, a bastard billionaire ?", he said to her accompanied by another laughter even faker than the previous one.

"Of course, I thought about it in all angles. Frankly, I'm very excited at the idea of marrying the president of the most dominant firm in Finanz street. Who won't want such a blessing?.", Joanna expressed cheerfully without even realizing that she had hurt with the statement that was proof enough she was all about his money and fame.

However, once again Ben Madoff decided to overlook. His feelings towards Joanna were the least of her worries. What mattered was her future status as the wife of a rich and powerful man, which she would use to avenge from her enemies, Mrs. Goldberg was her target was number one target.

Then Joanna asked the tycoon who was all ears: "When will we finally sign our marriage agreement ? If it were depending on me, we could do it even right now. Come meet me immediately in my office with just an attorney. For the barrel or sheet of paper, don't too bother yourself, I have them in great quantity on my desk."

Ben Madoff took a short moment to think but for Joanna it seemed the time had stopped.

And then suddenly, the magnate blurted out: "I jump into my car and come over there right away," before hanging up the call as usual without courtesy.
