"Miss Joanna Norton!" A woman with a soft tone of voice suddenly called the name of the new chief of the city's general hospital before stepping in the former room of her mother Cecilia. She fount the newly appointed director all by herself and in deep thoughts.
"Miss Norton!" The visitor called the name of the lost in thoughts new director for the second and this time around she responded.
"Very sorry! I'm daydreaming. How can I help you?" Joanna then asked.
"Well, Miss Norton, this is totally normal after all the incredible things that have just happened to you. You're the first director of such a young age and with no prior medical background. You must be a lucky person.
"Yes indeed, you are certainly right!" she replied very emphatically.
Then she realized that the woman in front of her was a complete stranger and had never introduced herself.
"Excuse me but who are you?" She then asked the visitor.
The only thing the new chief of city's general hospital could suspect was that the woman who was about the same age like her was a nurse because she was dressed in their regular blue uniform.
"In fact Miss Norton, I'm sent by Chairman Ben Madoff. Please just follow me!" uttered the young nurse with stunning style and class.
With a bit of hesitation, Joanna replied: "Well, I guess I have no choice." Then she began to walk behind the nurse who was walking at a very slow and controlled pace.
The two women walked to the end of the large corridor leading to the hospital's hall and there they took the elevator to the last floor of the building.
In just a few of seconds, they reached the summit of the venue and the elevator's door then opened. They got out of it to find themselves in a much bigger and nicer section than the one on the ground floor.
"Follow me this way, Miss Norton," the nurse told to their new boss, pointing at the way leading to her majestic office.
After a long walk through the almost endless aisle, they finally reached what was going to be from now on her new workspace.
"What ? Is that a prank? Yes this must be a prank!" yelled the nurse as she stepped in the office and spotted the mess left by the former director, Doctor John, who had packed up almost sometime ago and left the premises through the back door while swearing to get his revenge against the little witch Miss Norton.
"Oh, what a piece of shit! I wonder how Doctor John came to this extreme measure? That asshole won't get away with it," Joanna expressed bitterly as she set foot for the first time in her office.
"Miss Norton, I'm very sorry. I should have come check the place before. Anyway, please just be patient! I'll go and get help from the cleaning service," the nurse regretted before leaving immediately the office.
The new director hence stayed alone. And without even waiting for the cleaners to come, she began to tidy up. It was then that she came across a strange account book because it was of an unusual color, namely red like blood. She opened it and to her amazement, she saw a considerable number of check transactions issued by Mrs. Goldberg to the benefit of Doctor John. Which she found very suspicious, especially because the purposes werel not mentioned.
"These are without any doubt crooked transactions!" Joanna said spontaneously, convinced that the sums of money paid by Mrs. Goldberg were payments for illicit work carried out by her then toy the former city's general hospital doctor Jamot. She therefore decided to keep it in the office safe that was left open by her predecessor. She would look at it closely in a later time. A scoop, she thought.
Then out of a sudden someone appeared at the door of the office and it was someone else than the young nurse that she was waiting for.
"Miss Norton? Miss Joanna Norton?" the unknown person called the new general director of the city's general hospital who had her focus on the aquarium placed at the other end of the office in which a beautiful small fish seemed to be enjoying swimming up and down.
"Hellooooo!" The visitor finally caught Joanna's attention. She got her eyes off the aquarium and looked towards the door of the office.
"Oh oh! See who we have here, the big shark of Finanz street, the chairman of Madinvestment himself," Joanna declared excitingly as she laid her eyes on Ben Madoff passig the threshold of the door.
Surprised, the chairman of Madinvestment asked her if she was really meaning it by nicknaming a big shark.
"But Miss Norton, tell me, you really believe I'm a big shark? But I'm a nice guy though?" he asked with great frowned eyes.
Joanna quickly understood that it was the Miguel's question was a serious one. And so a straightforward answer could hurt him and consequently ruin her plan for social progress through a marriage agreement with a billionaire of husband. Therefore, Joanna pretended to have not grasped the question and answered it in a curious way.
"Of course my big shark, I want to become your wife," she declared with a non genuine excitement before hurrying up to enlace him.
The hug then created a shock in Ben Madoff which made him forget everything so appeasing was the warmth from Joanna's body.
"Well darling, I'm extremely glad that you preferred to get married to me than receiving the sum of one million dollars," confessed Ben Madoff.
However something was deeply annoying the new chief of the city's general hospital. How was she going to pay for her mother's medical bills? The position of general director of a great hospital could not provide enough money to cover the plenty of expenses related to her mother's admission in the hospital. As for the title of Mr. Madoff's wife, it was a great opportunity to certainly give her a wide reputation but there was no guarantee that Ben Madoff would give her pocket money.
It was then that she tried to obtain assurances from her husband to be.
"Well my dear, since I have agreed to become your wife, there are a number of things that I would like to know beforehand. Are you going to diligently give me pocket money after we tir the knot? If so, could you tell me how much is the amount per month? And if the money isn't enough, can I get more?" she interrogated with a voice full of signs of worry.
Seeing her true nature clearly appear in the light of day, that is to say an avid woman in the lookout for fame, the magnate Ben Madoff was speechless but as always he refrained from showing his annoyance and asked Joanna instead: "How much allowance do you need monthly?"
Without even hesitating Joanna replied: "A thousand dollars."
