The sun was rising, casting long shadows and a warm glow over the island. We had just stepped outside, and the heat was already intense, making us sweat. My heart was pounding, but I tried to stay calm. These kids—no, these young fighters—were impressive, moving with a quiet alertness Their senses seemed heightened, that blue stones really made them unhuman huh.
We passed four buildings without any trouble, using the shadows and overgrown foliage to stay out of sight. The streets were eerily quiet, and we moved quickly, sticking close to the walls. I felt a sense of relief; maybe this mission would go off without a hitch.
