Chapter 5 - The Dark Future of Ohara Island

Kai took a little seawater and used it to extinguish the still-burning fire. He looked at the scattered ashes around him and realized it was time to return to the village. He headed towards the village in the center of Ohara Island.

The village was vibrant, with neatly paved streets and small buildings crowded together. Among these many buildings, there was a giant tree called the Tree of Knowledge.

This tree was not only a symbol of the island but also housed one of the largest libraries in the One Piece world. It was a center for research and knowledge and a destination for scholars and researchers from all over the world. Just as it was in the manga he read in his own world, Kai knew this library held countless secrets.

Kai walked steadily towards the tree, surrounded by the sounds of children playing and the smell of fresh bread from nearby bakeries. As he approached the tree, he felt a sense of awe. This tree was not just a giant plant but a witness to a long and eventful history.

Upon reaching the Tree of Knowledge, he paused for a moment and looked up. The dense branches and intertwined leaves obscured a large part of the sky, giving the place an aura of mystery and majesty.

The library's massive doors were wide open. Kai entered and headed to the first floor, where thousands of books were stacked on the shelves.

He wandered through the aisles, amazed at the amount of knowledge available. In one corner, he found a large table with some old books and manuscripts. He sat down and started browsing a book about the island's history.

The book contained detailed information about the Tree of Knowledge and how it became a center for research and science. While reading, an old man wearing a brown robe approached him. "Can I help you with something, son?" the man asked in a calm voice.

Kai looked up and smiled. This man's features were familiar to him. He was Professor Clover, the head scientist at the Tree of Knowledge and one of Ohara's most important scholars. But he looked a bit younger than he did in the manga. Professor Clover led the scientific team researching ancient history and the Poneglyphs.

Kai turned to the professor with a smile. "Yes, I was looking for information about ancient legends and the origins of the island." Clover smiled back and sat next to him. "You've come to the right place. This tree holds many secrets. I'll help you find what you're looking for."

The man began to tell stories about the island, how the Tree of Knowledge started, and how it helped build Ohara's culture as a beacon of science and knowledge. Kai listened eagerly, absorbing every word like it was part of a new adventure.

Kai already knew the history of Ohara Island, as well as the dark future that awaited them.

He was aware that this island would be annihilated by the World Government because of its scientists' research into ancient history and the Poneglyphs, which contain information about the Void Century, a mysterious period in history that the World Government tried to keep secret.

Ohara's scientists sought to uncover the hidden truths of this period and learn the facts about legendary weapons and forces that could threaten the government's dominance.

Fearing that this knowledge could destabilize its power and reveal its secrets, the World Government issued the "Buster Call," a full-scale attack by the Navy.

The attack destroyed the entire island and killed most of its inhabitants, including the scientists working at the Tree of Knowledge. The goal was to completely eliminate any potential threat to the World Government's status by erasing Ohara and its research from existence.

Kai felt a bit sad about what would happen to them. He wanted to warn them and tell them to stop, but no one would believe him as they knew nothing about him. They would probably think he was a sorcerer or a madman.

He didn't want to draw attention to himself, so Kai just smiled as Professor Clover talked about every little detail he knew about the island.

The library was enormous, with bookshelves winding around every side like a maze of knowledge waiting to be explored. Dozens of scholars were scattered throughout the library, engrossed in studying history and researching ancient manuscripts. A sense of seriousness and inquiry pervaded the place, with the sound of pages turning filling the air, mingling with the scent of old paper.

As Kai listened intently to the professor's words, a beautiful young woman caught his eye as she sat quietly in a corner of the library. Her hair was white as snow, falling behind her neck, and her eyes were as blue as the clear sky. She was deeply focused on an open book in front of her, her delicate fingers gently turning the pages.

Kai murmured to himself, "That must be Olivia, Nico Robin's mother." He couldn't take his eyes off the young woman. There was something captivating about her, an aura of beauty and composure. He noticed she was surrounded by numerous rare books and manuscripts, indicating her deep knowledge and interest in history.

Kai felt a strong urge to talk to her, perhaps to learn more about the library or to exchange ideas about research. He cautiously approached her, trying not to disturb her concentration.

When he got closer, she looked up and met his gaze with her blue eyes. She smiled gently, and that smile was enough to ease his tension.

"Hello," Kai said softly, "I'm Kai. I was wandering around the library and noticed how absorbed you are in the books. Can I help you, or maybe we could share some ideas?"

The young woman smiled and said, "Hello, Kai. I'm Olivia. I've been working here for years, studying history and researching ancient manuscripts. I'm always happy to talk to someone who shares the same passion for knowledge."

Kai sat beside her, and they quickly became engrossed in an engaging conversation about the books and manuscripts that filled the library. They exchanged ideas and discussed historical theories as if they had known each other for a long time. Olivia was knowledgeable and spoke with confidence and enthusiasm, making Kai feel like he was learning something new with every word she spoke.

But he felt a bit sad about the future that awaited her too. Then he thought perhaps he could save her and the island's inhabitants if he became strong enough in the future.

While Kai was deeply engaged in conversation with Olivia, he noticed a strange movement in his right pocket where he kept the lantern. It was Arkan trying to get out but couldn't. Kai had plugged the lantern's mouth to prevent Arkan from causing trouble here, so the best solution was to lock him inside.

But Arkan didn't give up and continued his annoying movement for a long time until Olivia noticed something strange happening with Kai. He was pressing his leg hard, so to avoid drawing more attention, Kai stood up and asked Olivia to show him the library's restroom.

Indeed, Kai walked steadily towards the restroom located at the library's edge. He quickly entered and closed the door behind him.

He took out the lantern and removed the cover, and Arkan emerged, shouting at the top of his lungs, "You bastard! Isn't it enough that I've been locked in here for a long time, and on top of that, you close the lantern? You don't seem to understand; I'm your helper, not your slave, you idiot!"

Arkan's voice echoed through the place, and Kai urged him to lower his voice to avoid causing trouble, but Arkan was furious, his cheeks red with anger, shouting in Kai's face. Kai just watched silently, waiting for the man to calm down.

Finally, after Arkan calmed down, he asked where they were. Kai had left him on the beach, and now he found himself in this dark place.

Kai's words explained that they were in the island's library, and to avoid causing trouble with these people, he had locked him there. "You idiot, others can't see me unless I choose to appear, and even if I scream, no one can hear me but you."

Kai didn't take Arkan's words seriously, thinking he was lying to be let out. He asked him to return to the lantern, but Arkan refused. Then, suddenly, Arkan moved his body and disappeared in front of Kai, who was stunned. He quickly put the lantern back in his pocket and prepared to follow the fool who would inevitably cause him trouble.

Kai quickly left the restroom, searching for Arkan everywhere. He searched the building where the restroom was located, but to no avail. He found no trace of Arkan and was overwhelmed with anger. After moments of searching, Kai left the place and returned to the library to look for him there.

When he returned to the library, he was shocked to see Arkan floating in the air, holding hundreds of books. The scene before him was chaotic, but he noticed something strange. Despite the chaos Arkan caused, none of the scholars seemed to notice. Suddenly, a book fell from the ones Arkan was holding.

Professor Clover saw the book falling and quickly came to pick it up, shouting at everyone in the library, "You fools! How many times have I told you not to throw books around? These books are the most sacred thing in this world."

Kai remembered Arkan's words and quickly realized that others couldn't see or hear him. It was as if he didn't exist to them.

This was somewhat reassuring. Kai let out a long sigh and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He felt as if a heavy burden had been lifted from his shoulders, and his heart calmed down.

Kai returned to the table where Olivia was sitting and resumed the intriguing conversation with her.

Their conversation continued for hours until Kai realized how quickly time had passed. He thanked Olivia for her time and the insightful discussion and told her he would be happy to return and talk with her again. Then he left the library, feeling grateful for the moment he shared with someone as special as Olivia.

As he left the library, it was already midnight, but he saw the scholars still engrossed in their research.

The scholars practically lived in the library, eating and sleeping there, only returning to their homes after months of seclusion in the library. This explained everything to Kai and why they received such treatment from the World Government.

But it was also a strange sight. What was so important about uncovering history from their perspective? Kai muttered to himself, but then he remembered something he had read in his world, "Curiosity is an integral part of human nature; it is impossible to restrain a spirit that seeks knowledge." - This quote was from the scientist Albert Einstein.

Kai was dragging his steps through the village, looking for a place to spend the night until morning. The sun had set a long time ago, suggesting it was now midnight. The sky was adorned with stars twinkling in the darkness.

The fatigue of the long day had accumulated on Kai's shoulders, making his eyes heavy as he walked through the narrow alleys of the island, stumbling here and there.

The village was quiet at this time of night, and the few lights still on in the houses seemed to invite him to rest. His steps were slow, each one heavier than the last. Kai leaned against the wall of a house, trying to gather his strength to find a suitable place to sleep.

As he walked, he spotted a small inn in a quiet corner of the village. The lights emanating from its windows suggested warmth and comfort. Kai felt a glimmer of hope and headed toward the inn, his steps heavy with exhaustion.

Upon reaching the inn, he opened the wooden door and entered. The innkeeper greeted him with a friendly smile and asked if he needed a room for the night. Kai didn't need much convincing; the fatigue was evident on his face.

"Yes, I need a room to rest. It's been a long and exhausting day," Kai said in a tired voice.

The innkeeper took a key from behind the counter and escorted Kai to his room. The room was simple, but the bed looked comfortable enough for Kai to sink into a deep sleep. Kai thanked the innkeeper and closed the door behind him.

He lay down on the bed and closed his eyes, letting his body finally relax after a long day of searching and wandering. Thoughts played in his mind, but he knew he had to give himself a chance to rest.

Kai fell into a deep sleep, dreaming of the adventures and challenges that awaited him, excited for what tomorrow might bring.

The next morning, Kai woke up feeling better at last. The sun's rays gently filtered through the curtains, lighting the room with a warm glow. He sat on the edge of the bed, stretching and breathing deeply. The sleep had restored much of his energy and enthusiasm.

He looked around the simple room and recalled the events of the previous day. He remembered the vast library and the Tree of Knowledge, and his encounter with Olivia and their engaging conversation. He smiled to himself, thinking about the wealth of information he had gained and the steps he had taken on his journey so far.

He quickly got dressed, determined to make the most of the new day. He went downstairs where the innkeeper had prepared a simple breakfast for the guests. Kai sat at the table and ate with appetite, enjoying his first meal in a long time.

After breakfast, he thanked the innkeeper and bid him farewell, then headed out into the bustling streets of the village. Life was in full swing, with people wandering, merchants displaying their goods, and children running and playing in the alleys.

Suddenly, he glanced at the pocket where he kept the lantern. He wanted to greet Arkan since he hadn't seen him since yesterday. But the lantern wasn't there. Shock quickly spread across Kai's face, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Where is that fool?!"

All the passersby nearby stopped, their eyes turning toward Kai in astonishment. Realizing his shout had drawn attention, Kai tried to calm himself. But worry gripped his heart; the lantern and Arkan were integral parts of his journey.

Kai quickly began running away from the spot. As he ran, he recalled all the places he had been since leaving the Tree of Knowledge. He decided to retrace his steps, checking every stop he had made.

Kai appeared like a madman to the island's inhabitants, searching left and right, overturning everything in his path. He even toppled some vendors' tables in the village market. He looked like a raging bull, prompting the vendors to chase after him to prevent further chaos.

As Kai left a trail of disorder wherever he went, he remembered something. The last place he had seen Arkan was the library. Kai stopped abruptly and muttered to himself, "Right, I'll go there now. Maybe that fool caused more trouble."

The merchants closed in on him, ready to pounce and give him a beating. They split into two groups, one on the right and the other on the left. Swiftly, they leaped into the air to seize Kai, who was still standing, lost in thought.

In a flash, Kai disappeared from sight, causing them to collide with each other, their heads ringing from the impact. All Kai left behind was a cloud of dust. His speed was unbelievable, prompting one of them to shout at his comrades, "How can he run that fast?! That scoundrel, gather your strength, men. We will catch him!"

Anger was evident on the merchants' faces, from the youngest to the oldest. Kai had ruined their goods and left their village in chaos. They quickly stood up and began chasing him again.

Kai finally reached the library door but noticed something odd. Laughter echoed from all around the library, which was strange. He hadn't noticed this yesterday; the place had been quiet from the moment he entered until he left. But now, things were different. Without further questioning, Kai hurried inside to see for himself.

His face quickly filled with shock, his jaw practically hitting the floor. The scene before him was astounding. He saw Arkan among a crowd of scholars, including Professor Clover.

He heard Arkan speaking to them about some adventure, and they listened intently, bursting into laughter whenever Arkan cracked a joke.

The scholars surrounded Arkan on all sides, leaving the books they had been reading scattered on the library tables. It was as if they had found something else to study besides ancient history.

In a way, this was reassuring for Kai. If he could convince them to abandon their idea of researching the Poneglyph, he might save their lives from the impending danger.

But he quickly remembered Arkan's promise. Hadn't he vowed to reveal himself only to Kai and avoid causing trouble? Surely, they could all see him now.

Anger surged through Kai again, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Arkan, you traitor!"

Kai's voice echoed through the entire library, startling Arkan to the point of jumping in fear.

"You rascal, don't get the wrong idea. Let me explain," Arkan said.

"What will you explain? You want to talk after all this, you treacherous fool. I told you from the beginning to stay in the lantern," Kai yelled in fury.

"Why do you defy my orders? Didn't you say I was your master from the start?" Kai continued angrily.

"Listen, you idiot. These people are different. You can't find trouble with scholars," Arkan replied.

"What are you saying?!" Kai's shout and rage filled the entire scene, causing everyone in the library to flee from his anger. Kai lunged at Arkan, tackling him to the ground.

He grabbed him by his clothes, shouting in his face with spit flying everywhere, "Didn't you say you'd keep our secret? Didn't you say that, you fool?"

Arkan wiped Kai's spit from his face with an indifferent look. "Did I really say that?"

Kai's anger flared again, making everyone think his head would explode. "I despise people who don't keep their promises."

"Calm down, Kai. It seems you've lost your temper," came a soft, familiar voice to Kai's ears. It was a sweet and beautiful voice, undeniably feminine.

Kai turned to the source of the voice and found Olivia standing there among the others. His face quickly shifted from intense anger to blushing with embarrassment.

"Hello, Olivia. I wasn't... I mean, I wasn't angry at all. We were just discussing some matters," Kai said, flustered.

Everyone in the library whispered to themselves, "Wasn't this man about to explode with rage a moment ago?"

"Silence!" Kai's voice boomed again, causing them to fall silent. He then turned back to Olivia and smiled at her. He got off Arkan, who he had been strangling, and helped him up, dusting off his clothes that had gotten dirty because of him. He whispered in Arkan's ear, "I'll deal with you harshly when we leave this place."

Arkan noticed Kai's sudden change in demeanor and watched as he walked away with Olivia.

Kai walked with Olivia to the table where they had been sitting since yesterday. They talked for a while, discussing various topics. Olivia knew a lot about this world, and Kai was trying to keep up with her, combining all he had read from the manga in his world and the memories he had acquired since arriving here.

But he remembered something—the lantern whose whereabouts he still didn't know. Since Arkan was tied to it and couldn't stay in a place where it wasn't, he must have stolen it from Kai's pocket yesterday while Kai was engrossed in his conversation with Olivia.

Kai quickly got up from his seat, leaving Olivia in astonishment. He approached Arkan again, causing everyone who had gathered around him to flee in fear of Kai's renewed anger. But this time, Kai paid them no mind, his sole concern being to ask Arkan about the lantern's whereabouts.

"Why do you want it?" Arkan responded.

"You idiot, I've decided we should leave this island and go somewhere else. I'll tell you the reason later. Now, where did you put that cursed lantern?"

"I won't tell you," Arkan replied with a nonchalant look.

Kai felt a surge of anger but suppressed it this time and said calmly, "Fine, I'll search for it."

This surprised Arkan. Wasn't Kai supposed to grab his clothes again and cause more chaos? He had gotten used to it since coming here with this fool.

"Who cares, do what you want," Arkan replied with a sly smile.

Kai stepped forward until he reached the middle of the library and shouted at the top of his voice, "Where is that damn lantern?!"

All activities in the library stopped for a moment, and eyes turned toward Kai in astonishment. Arkan held his head in shock at what this fool had done.

Olivia quickly approached him and said in a low voice, "What's the matter, Kai? What happened?"

Kai swallowed hard and said, "The lantern I had... it's missing, and it's a crucial part of my journey. I can't continue without it."

Olivia seemed understanding and said, "We need to look for it. Maybe you lost it somewhere in the library or on the way here. Let's start searching right away."

Kai and Olivia began to thoroughly search the library, moving between the shelves and checking every corner. As time passed, Kai's anxiety grew. If he didn't find the lantern, his journey could be in jeopardy.

After a long time of searching without success, despair began to creep into Kai's heart. Exhausted, he fell to the ground, wiping the sweat off his brow. Suddenly, he noticed something under the table where he had been sitting with Olivia the night before. The lantern had been there the whole time. That fool, Arkan, had tricked him with a cheap but clever ruse, diverting his attention by taking the lantern from Kai's pocket and placing it nearby to distract him. Kai muttered to himself about how smart it was, then took the lantern from under the table.

Olivia smiled and asked, "Did you find it?"

Kai nodded and said, "Yes, it's back. I appreciate your help, Olivia. I appreciate it a lot."

Kai quickly turned to Arkan and mocked him, "You weren't smart enough, you fool. Hehehe."...
