Jodie stopped short at the threshold of Viola's cabin as two pairs of eyes whirled towards her. She'd barged in unannounced during a consultation with one of the pack members.
A soft candlelight illuminated their faces and the rest of the darkened room. Viola's eyes held a deep, mystical intensity that implied she'd been very connected with whatever she was doing.
"Jodie," she said, surprised to her. Viola's hands grasped an elderly woman's, who was currently scowling at Jodie. "I've been expecting you. Although not right now."
"Yes, I can see you're busy. I'm sorry to intrude," Jodie replied, taking in the tense atmosphere. "I had no idea you were with company."
"It's okay. We're almost done." The elderly woman's gaze lingered on Jodie, her displeasure palpable.
Viola handed her a portion and said, "Take this, Ophelia. Give some to him now, and leave the rest for later. Your brother will be much better before night falls."
