The room was still dark, except for a glimmer of moonlight creeping through the curtains. Jodie stirred, her heart pounding in her chest. A shiver ran down her spine as she realised she wasn't alone.
Initially, it was a faint whisper that filled the air. Then, voices she couldn't recognise, speaking in a language she didn't understand. Fear gripped her as the whispers became louder and more insistent. She could feel the strange presence by her bedside but couldn't see it. She tried to scream, but her voice was just a hoarse whisper.
She felt paralysed, unable to move. Then the voices seemed to echo in her head, filling her with a sense of dread. Jodie squeezed her eyes shut, hoping the voices would go away. But they only got louder, their words clearer.
"Jo-die. Jo-die. Jodieee. Jodie."
They called her name over and over again, with different intonations, like they were testing the sound of it on their tongues.
