Chapter 9 - To her brim

The evening came where Jimmy would show off his wife, Nora as usual. It was becoming an everyday routine and she was getting tired of it.

She sighed as she dressed up in one of her fancy evening gowns.

Jimmy walked into the room, "Ain't you ready yet?" He frowned.

She rolled her eyes and faced him, "Yes, I am," she tightened her lips, trying to prevent her from another outburst.

He smiled, "Good, let us go downstairs," he brought out his arm. She walked up to him and took it. Together, they went downstairs.

The media was waiting downstairs and had begun their paparazzi as soon as they saw Mr and Mrs Robinwood.

Nora tightened her grip around his arm, paparazzi always made her feel weak at the knees, she wished she could just disappear in front of all of this paparazzi but that was not happening.

"C'mon, you don't have to flinch, just play along, go with the flow," he whispered.

She nodded, "Okay."

They both smiled and walked down the stairs like one perfect couple.

The admiration in everyone's eyes was visible as they wished to be like them.

Jimmy felt proud and as usual he was going to show his wife one more time to the guests.

Nora's stomach churned one more time as they approached the guests. She wished, there was a way she could prevent this from happening but she had no choice.

As usual, Jimmy approached the guests and began his usual practice. Showing off his successes and telling them the reason behind his successes was his wife.

In the past, Nora would feel very flattered but not after she found who Jimmy really was.

She felt disgusted by his flattering and rolled her eyes. His guests, would take Nora's hand and give it a little kiss as a sign of respect.

But not today.. she was not letting that happen to her today.

"Mrs. Robinwood," one if their guests came forward and wanted to take her hand but she politely refused.

Jimmy frowned as she refused but quickly covered it up with a smile.

"I don't think she wants any physical contact, a wave would do," he tried his best to be calm.

"Yeah, I don't want any physical contact," she said coldly and looked away.

The guests with them, were surprised, she was it usually this cold, infact she was very accommodating.

Jimmy kept his cool trying so hard not to lose it.

The party went on, the guests having a nice time as usual, Jimmy went around with Nora trying to play the perfect host and hostess and of course, the guests would always begin praising them which always left Jimmy very satisfied.

Nora was getting tired and decided to retreat to the rooms. She discreetly asked to be excused and went to her room.

She sat on the bed, and sighed, "This is what he just wanted, his social status," she bit her lips, tears forming in her eyes but she quickly dabbed it off with a handkerchief.

She deeply exhaled and looked out of the window, she somehow missed the stranger she had met at the office, "If only I could see him again," she closed her eyes, reminiscencing the events of that night.

That was the best night of her entire life, seems she would never see him again. Her heart was filled with sorrow.

"Doesn't he have a name? He didn't tell me his name?"

'Nora, remember this.. My name is..'

He did, he had whispered his name in her ear but she was too drowned with pleasure to realise he was saying something at that moment.

She signed, "You wouldn't blame me right, it's something I've never experienced, how was I supposed to pay attention?" She slapped her forehead lightly.

"Goodness," she stood up and walked to the balcony, everywhere was decorated with lights and it was really beautiful.

"But my life's not," she shook her head, "I'd do anything to trade places with someone right now," her eyes filled up with tears again, this time she allowed them flow freely.

"I should have listened, now see the mess I'm now in."

She now regretted every minute of her stay in that house.

She palmed her face, her heart was heavy and she wanted to pour it out to someone.

She heard groanings in the hallway, close to her room.

Her heart skipped a beat, "What's that?" She took quiet slow steps to the door to check what was going on.

'A thief? Someone broke in? Is it a fight between some of the guests?' Crazy thoughts ran in her head.

She got to the door and peeped, there was no broken glass or blood stains so there was no robber neither was it a fight.

She exhaled, "Phew, if it isn't a fight, what is it?"

She wanted to take a closer look but something in her warned her against it.

"It couldn't be a robber, what harm can it cause? Let me just have a look," she walked to the spot.

The groanings grew louder as she came closer and she seemed to hear her husband's voice.

She frowned and walked faster to see what was happening this time.

Jimmy was making out with someone.

Her heart tightened, she gulped down, then something caught her attention, he wasn't with Jerry this time, he was with.. their driver?!

Her mouth fell open, she couldn't say anything, first he cheated on her, now he was cheating on Jerry too.

This was the kind of husband she married, one who not only cheats on her but on his gay partners as well.

She shook her head in disappointment and disgust, she didn't know why she kept her eyes glued to them but she did.

The driver seemed as if he was forced because one look at his face would tell he wasn't enjoying it at all.

She slowly turned around, she couldn't take this anymore. She was going to end it all.
